I brought this camera and it broke with little use. The reason was I brought it from an online company. Provisual Direct - don't buy from these people -

I payed 275 pounds for a five year warranty which was a waste of paper. They refused to fix it, even when I sent it to them - they sent it back the same day in a different smaller box to save themselves money. Just a warning in case anyone thinks of going to those people. Thank you

@spellboundtube I assume you're in the UK? In the US a lot of people buy from B&H (store or online). Recently we got a new Canon HD that's absolutely fabulous and for a great price. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles :(

@theltizzlechannel That depends on if you have a clear complexion for the magnifying effects of HD on facial features :) As for me...I'd prefer SD pointing at ME closeup! lol

Hi, off the top of my head, The ProHD is a large chip and camera, and HDC Pro camcorder is a small chip and small camcorder that's made for consumers and easy to travel with.

These guys and B and H know all about this stuff. You can google them at B and H New York.

It depends on where you buy it. Amazon, for example, sells it at around $2,500. Amazon seems to have really good prices, so I use it a lot. But I'm saving for this big camera...meanwhile, I still use my small Sony Cybershot because I can take both photos and short videos.

Thanks for your input. Did you find it TOO heavy to carry around all day? How is the audio quality? Do you use it professionally (to create videos/movies) or just for fun? I'm thinking that before I buy this HD camcorder I'll need a BIGGER computer to handle the huge files....

ok so, it's not Too heavy, it's fine.. the audio quality is actually incredible. i bought it last year because i was meant to be taking media when i started college but i decided to take music instead, and i've found myself using the hvr-a1's for a lot of my microphone recording because it works as such a great condenser microphone.

and yeah i'd definitely recommend getting a good computer if you want to edit the footage, i used an apple macbook pro and that absolutely hates it lol
