  • Mark is clueless

  • gillan in sabbath, still cant believe its true

  • my friend said should go for a job interview with the born again t-shirt on, that would be hilarious

  • Tony was kinda acting like he was high lol Love me some Sabbath!!!

  • DIO

  • Can they give them some chairs to sit on?Sorry, but it does not look very comfortable.

  • Born Again is my favourite Sabbath album. It's easily Sabbath's most underrated work. Ian Gillan's vocals were AMAZING on the album/tour! Too bad Sabbath only did the one record with this version of the band.

  • @SuperStrik9 So true . A very unique and Heavy album!

  • "Born Again" is f*cking awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • You have Sabbath in for an interview, and you open the interview with such stupid questions? This is one example of MTV's naivety for talent.

  • AMAZING INTERVIEW

  • Wtf do tony said at 0:43 ?????????????? lol

  • @TheEs379 no no not at all, i think with some indian accent

  • @vwgti99 ok, thxs dude :D

  • @vwgti99 It was around the time of Gandhi the movie probably. I didn't know Tony had a sense of humour! That bit was hilarious.

  • Well, the boys looked they enjoyed EVERY MINUTE of that interview, didn't they?!? lol

  • there worst album!

  • SPANDOU BALLET!!!!

  • Iommi is so stoned during this interview, haha!

    Interviewer is an idiot though.

  • best sabbath album sans ozzy

  • Jeez! Love the seating arrangement for the Sab's...What are we in PRE-SCHOOL

  • "No, we're not ,going to do, fucking Stonehenge!"

  • Spandau Ballet...??? During a Sabbath Interview? Man Who did they think was watching the interview. Spandau Ballet Fans? MTV was even Stupid back then, but at least they had Music on it

  • No respect for a great band

  • @MarkD1855 I agree, if anyone of us had a chance to interview the mighty Sabbath none of his insulting questions would be asked

  • Mark Goodman is a duoche and a rude interviewer

  • @deepsussex the interviewer is an asshole

  • At 5:31 The Guy brings up to Ian about the doctor telling him not to sing for a year. Ian then said It was 6 months. He should have taken a year off to rest his voice. His voice was pretty much shot when he reunited with Purple a year later.

  • Yet at the same time, Gillan is smoking throughout the interview. Heh!

  • @Drumguy1988 ...I don't know what DP album you were listening to, but Gillan sounds great as ever on Perfect Strangers.

  • Hahaha, born in a Christian way. Ya thats exactly what the album attempts to avoid.

  • Ian shoots Mark a subconcious middle finger at 2:30

  • Well maybe it's 2:28 or 2:29 .....

  • took me a minute to actually notice that 0.0

  • The guy doing the interview is a dick

  • Black sabbath for life \m/

  • Great interview. I almost forgot that Ian Gillen fronted Sabbath. Loved him with Deep Purple!!! Thank you, Alex. mark Goodman gets on my nerves, though!!!

  • great interview this lineup kicked ass born again is sadly very underrated.

  • That interviewer is a huge dickhead

  • i know he doesn't know jack shit about sabbath hes hosting on vh1 classic now he's awful.

  • Spandau Ballet during a Black Sabbath interview? Mark Goodman was such a douchebag.

  • this line-up should have stayed together

  • Geezer's funny voices are hilarious..

  • I know dude! Have a little balls will you people? It's heavy metal for God's sake.

  • I love 'Born Again' The record cover as well.

  • Stone henge hahaha how laughable

    SPINAL TAP

  • i've got the lp

  • this interviewer is a conscending moron. "what's Bev's role in the band?" they all look at each other. i'm thinking, "um, the drummer, you fucking idiot?"

  • @HenryCovert He was probably trying to ask them if Bev's place in the band was permanent or not, but chose to fumble it istead. At least he came back a more straightforward way of asking the question after that. Yeah, Mark Goodman was a moron, I do agree with that. lol

  • Anyone ever the demo mixes of the songs? I understand they're stronger.

  • Goodman is a tool. Holy shit

  • I love Gillan's answer about the 'Born Again' question. Apart from being an outstanding singer, he's a very intelligent guy.

  • almost every interview ive seen Geezer comes across as kind of an asshole??

  • Goodman should have stuck with Spandau Ballet...what a turd

  • LORD....could Mark Goodman have been a LITTLE more of a goddamn TOOL!??? No wonder Tony and Geez didn't say much...and the look on Ian's face half the time.....LMAO!!! He's lookin' at Goodman like..."..thanks for the coverage mate, but you're quite the knob..."

  • classy set design..

. i hate to say it but it is really nearly impossible to understand geezer (and tony too to an extent) but they rule so much.

  • i remember the lyrics were in the record

  • How stupid can an interviewer be?....

  • That album kicked ass!

  • Wow, the interviewer is truly awful. Imagine having Black Sabbath on an interview and telling the band a Spandau Ballet video is about to come on. I know the guy isn't into programming but come on, there had to be a better way to make that kind of statement.

  • This has got to be one of the most uncomfortable interviews I've ever seen. I haven't heard much from Born Again, been looking for it for years lol.

  • It's on ebay right now in cd form (Castle label import) for $30.00.

  • the very copy :D ?

  • Yes the original release (Black Sabbath Born Again Cd.)

  • Oh, I thought you meant the vinyl copy from the video.

  • 2:30 Ian Gillan gives Mark Goodman ( the VJ ) the birdy.

    Good one Ian.

  • Couldn't they give the rock gods something a little bit more comfortable to sit on other than a park bench?

  • Really. Have a look at the first few minutes. Tony is kinda looking around like.... "Why the hell are we sitting here" ?

  • Back then, they were not "rock gods"

  • Sorry...I meant "Metal Gods."

  • They wasn't gods, but they dam sure was worthy.

  • Back then no one cared, thats what was so great about it.

  • Spandau Ballet & Sabbath would rule!!!!

  • Or perhaps they should all join together and create a new band called Black Ballet, or Spandau Sabbath. Umm....NOT!!!

  • you know, this interview, & Geezer's attitude (Ive got a black mass to go to , 10/10) shows my theory:

many people believe that Geezer "fucked up" Born Again's sound, the way the record sounded. I BELIEVE that Geezer looked around, and realized "ok, back in the 70's, we fucked up cause we followed the pop world. Let's look at the underground". There he found Venom, Discharge,Tank, who knows what else... Witchfinder General?and decided to distort his bass sound. This record is HEAVY like the old

  • good points, but actually Geezer's been using heavy distortion on his bass since 1969. remember 'N.I.B.'? he had that sound before Lemmy and way before Cliff burton (who usually gets all the credit for pioneering it). i don't agree that Sabbath in the 70s "fucked up because they followed the pop world" because they didn't. but i totally agree about them looking to their heirs & 'out-heavying' them. which they still do today. H & H wipes the floor with bands young enough to be their grand-kids.

  • Very good point!!

I remember reading Geezer mentioning how he listened to Soundgarden, Ministry and Fear Factory when working with GZR and the sabbath reunion

    Long Life to Sabbath

  • Deep Sabbath Born Again is one of my favorite albums of all time. The lyrics are cool and intelligent.

Ian's vocals are wicked and haunting.

    The screams are insainly awesome.

The music equaled that greatness & made a classic record.

I saw Purple a few years back and Gillan sounded better than I'd ever heard him. I love all Sabbath but if I had to rank #1 Dio #2 Gillan #3 Ozzy #4 Martin #5 Hughes

#6 Ray Gillan. Hail to all Sabbath fans, no matter who our favorite is, we all win.

  • excellent post. agreed on all counts. i'd rank them the same as you, in the context of Sabbath. jusas singers i'd rank them Dio, Gillan, Hughes, Martin & Gillen tied (?), & Ozzy.

  • I think it is sad that in early 80s Sabbath had to stoop to doing interviews on MTV. They never needed promotion or air-play to sell albums in the 1970s. Back then, doing an interview like this was beneath them. Anyway, I enjoy watching this just the same. I saw this tour and I thought it was great seeing them play "Smoke On the Water" for their encore! Yes, it's true, they did.

  • the true Sabbath singers are also the essential singers for any hard rock, and heavy metal fan, that being Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillan.

  • the hordes of hell!

  • MTV has always sucked...-Goodman interupts the Black Sabbath interview to show a Spandau Ballet video!!!

  • Bill Ward IS NOT DEAD. He is very much alive.

  • I think sabbath had 3 singers which fit perfect in the band, first the great Ozzy and dio and gillan!! and butler was a great bass player and their org. drummer bill ward who died,he was a great drummer at the time!!!

  • damn i didn`t know bill ward died, when did he pass away and how?

  • actually I've heard it from a friend and he was pretty sure about that, but I don't know when or where it happened?!!!!

  • Bill Ward didn't die, the only thing that happened to him in the last couple of years is he had a heart attack

  • ok. thanks for inform. so now I know it what really happened to him !! thanks.

  • Bwahahaha!

That was Tony doing the Indian accent: 'No no, not at all, no.'

That was so unexpected, I didn't know he had that kind of sense of humour. Cool!

  • I agree I thought Ian should have done another album with them, with Dio playing back up guitar and singing on it as well.they can take turns.

  • Interesting interview. The Sabbs don't seem into it, and Mark Goodman is really struggling to get these guys to open up. A nice gem from the classic days of MTV.

  • I love how MTV has Sabbath sitting like they are in pre-school???

  • Born Again was proberly one of the best Sabbath albums on in the 80's

  • Sabbath with Dio and Sabbath with Gillan is much better than Sabbath with Ozzy. Doesnt matter that Ozzy was the original singer. Face it.

  • jajajajajajajaja

    IS TRUE!!

  • I thought that Ian Gillian did some of his best singing on that album

  • I like how Ian Gillan flips him off at 2:30 Good job. Inteviewer deserves it!

  • ian did good on born again. dont listen to critics and judge for urself. born again is a good album. when geezer did the mixing it got a lil worse but still enjoyable.

  • I'd be embarrased to admit that to the world at large. Ozzy #1 Gillan #2 Dio #3 all others= shit

  • just recently i downloaded a shitload of sabbath that i didnt have before, I never heard much from Born Again (wasn't interested before) but its great!...it just totally fit the band at the time, and "trashed" fucking rips!

  • are you kidding me esox66, what about glenn hughes and tony martin, they rule as well

  • You suck 17blackwizard, IAN is KICK ASS

  • yeah, spinal tap is a collective of metal stories done their way--puppet show with black sabbath

  • The interviewer is such a faggot.

  • WTF...It is Sababth what the fuck are you talking about.

  • p3ti3:

    Pointless and irrelevant statement.

This is Black Sabbath. Long live Tony Iommi, Ian Gillan, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Martin, Glenn Hughes, Geoff Nicholls...

  • Born Again is most certainly Sabbath p3ti3

  • idd i know but its not my favorite configuration of sabbath my bad

  • ahh I can see, I can respect that.

  • Born Again is one of the best Sabbath albums around.

  • And the unmixed demos that someone posted here on YT are even better.

  • @misconduckt its ok cause of gillians voice....just cant compare to albums like volume 4, sabatoge, black sabbath/black sabbath and the paranoid album....not to mention master of reality and sabbath bloody sabbath.....actually your comment is pretty stupid the more i think about it.......shit technical ectasy was even better ...you dont know sabbath if you think this is the best album....or you just got a hard on for deep purple......which is admirable...

  • @cholulasaucehot man, Born Againe was once in eternity collaboration of two styles. Music of Sabbath with Wailing shrieks of Gillan. It is ceirtanly not their best, but this album truly rocks hard.

  • @cholulasaucehot Osbourne's the best singer!

  • mark goodman oi vey !

  • The 'Stone Henge' set...did that inspire 'Spinal Tap' in that part where the dwarf dances around the miniture 'Stone Henge'...very funny stuff!!

  • I just had that thought too! It has to be doesn't it - Spinal Tap is dated 1984 - so just about possible.

    HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAaaaaaa

  • I seem to recall hearing it was a co-incidence. Both Sabbath and Spinal Tap had the Stonehenge idea at the same time. Of course, that may be false as after all someone posted on here that Bill Ward was dead and that certainly is not true! Check the other Ian Gillan interviews, I think that's where I heard it.

  • I do think Born Again is an underrated album. The mix could be better, but there's some quality material on there and its heavy as fuck!

  • Born Again is my favorite Sabbath album. It's too bad they collaborated only on one album.

  • Tony still had some great riffs for this album, which gives the fans who want those powerful heavy songs happy. Great stuff. I can find something in all incarnations of "Sabbath" that works for me. :)

  • sabbath with gillan was just as great as the ozzy and dio lineups, and yeah they were all like they wanted to hide, gillan hated being in sabbath although he remains good friends with tony, geezer and bill, and has even developed a friendship with Ronnie James Dio too, im not sure what ian thinks of ozzy though lol

  • Is there anywhere i can download this interview from

  • Tonny yommy looks like a "Baiano Brazileiro" he has a "flat head".

  • I really wonder what's going through Ian's mind at 0:24 when the camera gives a close up of the album cover.

  • Sabbath seems to sound like a completely different band with each singer. Born Again is a genius work that, I hope, will be remixed someday.

  • Born Again was a decent enough album, but it's interesting how when asked about members in the band, the tour etc there's a tremendous ambivalence and it's written all over the bandmembers' faces, too. Gillan looks like he wants to go and hide somewhere... Later reports indicated that he wasn't comfortable in Sabbath. He hated the album cover, thought the album was mixed poorly and the whole thing was a big debacle. Doomed lineup! And it was the last good album the band released.

  • No no no... You must not have heard "Dehumanizer", schiaffer!

  • Hey, DangerousBastard, you're right "Dehumanizer" is a good one. I sometimes forget about that one.

  • maybe cause there was a divide between rock musicians and metal musicians.

Don Arden did his homework better than Evan or even Gillan.

In gillan's case, his performances were good, he survived cause he had his killer voice... but he bashed the record, only to then take it back..

tsk tsk ... guess it turned out to be more memorable than expected.

  • born again...probably not mixed very well but a wonderfull album

  • Black Sabbath is a Legend and we love them. Everyone should listen to them. They are one of our biggest influences. Our band Amaggot Bordir owes alot to them. We just added a new video today on my profile if anyone wants to hear something new and heavily influenced by Sabbath.

  • Stonehenge!!!

  • No shit huh ??

No we're not going to play fucking Stonehenge tommorrow !!! LMAO

I'm not being rhetorical here but do you think this is where Spinal Tap was poking fun?

  • wierd coincidence........spinal tap had already shot the stone henge scene like 2 months before Sabbath decided to tour with it.....and the movie hadnt come out yet, so Sabbath wasnt doing it because of Spinal Tap or visa versa

  • there's a certain darkness in the sound on this album that sabbath in my opinion has never been able to recreate. maybe it was a mixture or Ian's vocals with Tony's riffs or sound setup or all three don't know. I just love it.

  • MTV used to have heavy metal on it? Cool.

  • ah shit, they skipped right over the Spandau Ballet video.

  • hahaha

  • oh good grief, get a grip "god boy".shove the crucifix up your ass, might as well.

  • I never thought the title "Born Again" applied to christianity. Like the band said a new start.

  • jlevyx

    YEP!!

  • i dont see why this album gets such a bad rap

  • Mark Goodman is a tool/dolt..."we have long time member Tony Iommi"...??? how about original founding member along with Geezer...do your homework Goodman...you Spandau Ballet loving geek!!!

  • One of the greatest Black Sabbath formations and this album was really obscure and heavy , and kindda hard rock too.. pretty cool

  • Their best album EVER

  • This album kicks ass. Its indeed creepy but awesome.

  • Damn I love this band and I don't care which form they take. Born Again is one of the heaviest Sabbath albums IMO.

I would kill to have Ian's hair, lol.

  • I agree 100% with you.

This album is SOOO good, maybe because it's so out there, with all the Gillan laughter and the dark ambient stuff. It's sick either way, and I hate Black Sabbath purists for being ignorant about this album.

  • I saw the band on the Born Again tour and they rocked! Ian's vocals on the album are awesome and Born Again, in my opinion, is one of my favorite Sabbath albums and one of their heaviest!

  • Fairies Where Boots! Har Har! SABBATH!

  • Born Again is a creepy album. I love it.

  • VJ Jeff Goodman is so clueless!

  • Actually it's Mark Goodman but you're right about that.

  • LOL MARK Goodman

  • BORN AGAIN RULES

  • Awesome stuff, anymore Sabbath Interviews? Born Again is a unique and wonderful album despite a horrible production.

  • That tour ruined IG. He should of taken 2 years off and than done purple.

  • I think Perfect Stranger came out ok.

  • the album is not bad but did you hear his voice on the tour?

  • Hey Matt, why complain about the tour when you can scrap all the junk and throw on the Reading sounboard boot and be blown out of your mind?

(some people really amaze me, you only need one example from that tour to go by)

  • listen to gillans interview somewhere here on youtube about this you will see why?

  • Tony and Geezer just dont give a SHIT!

  • im with michael,i saw this concert.born again was out and out insane"disturbin the priest" shows that noone,..and i mean no one,can do bone chilling screams like ian gillan.dont believe me? listen to "sweet child in time" when he was with purple, live version is the one you wanna hear.this whole album was great, the concert was great.but im a die hard sabbath fan.

  • Zero The Hero is one of the greatest, Sabbath songs, and all of metal!

  • I know the "Born Again" album has been hammered as Sabbath's worst album, but I always thought it was their heaviest and one of my favorites.

  • When 'Born Again' came out in 1983 I thought it was the most evil album ever released..Lol.

  • Amazing Video!

  • Como hubiera dicho Zamorano; en 2 palabras: "In-Presionante, ¿no?
