Are you serious? There's HUNDREDS of better books, movies, and games out there. Mass effect doesn't have a thing called "open world". Every Tolkien (lord of the rings) book is better than ME. You haven't read much books, really. Warcraft world, starcraft world, is much more detailed and amazing. Warhammer 40k world too, elder scrolls is very good too, Witcher books are MUCH better, and the game is on the level of mass effect.
