@clixster if this planet can affect earth so dramatically, it must affect the earth's orbit first. the earth's orbit have been calculated more or less precise for thousands of yrs back. as far as i know the results agree with archeological data. e.g. ancient sacred places are built according to the direction to the rising sun at equinox.

and yet earth's orbit has a small eccentricity. a strongly affected orbit would most probably have been stretched out.
