  • Beautiful! Just beautiful! Thanks for uploading this.

  • Great post as this is the 1942 original which is rarely heard today - it's the 1947 re-make that we hear as the 1942 master was worn out by 1947.

  • Hello fuzzbear6240, you might remember my channel on this site disappeared 2 years ago, since then I rebuilt a similar one at "the competition". However, today, while we are enjoying the first White Christmas since 1964, I had to revisit your exquisite posting, enjoying this classic in the cosy environment of your living room. Merry Christmas :-)

  • Beautiful! Merry Christmas to you and God Bless.

  • Merry Christmas loved your video

  • I have this very Decca record, catalog number and all! OK, so do millions of others. It's always interesting to hear the song the way others did during WWII. A different world from today no doubt.

  • Thank you so much for this video. It made me cry happy tears. When Bing Crosby recorded this song the Ken Darby Singers were actually called the "Kings Men" consisting of Ken Darby, John Dodson, Bud LInn, Rad Robinson (my father in-law). You can hear my father in-law when the harmony starts he is the baritone and also whistles. I really enjoyed it and my husband was very happy to hear his father sing again.

  • I'd wanted to hear this version for years after I found out the one on my 1949 "merry christmas" LP wasn't original. Went to an antique store and saw a box of 78's (I collect them as well) and lo and behold, there it was, undamaged, for $2! I snatched it up and got goosbumps the first time I listened to it. I'm going to transfer it to CD and give it to family members for christmas. Thanks for sharing! (of course, if I wanted to hear it that bad, I shoulda checked here first! :-)

  • absolute classic song

  • I love it...thanks for the video! I love how the candles seem to be dancing to the music! I just bought my mom one of those old fashioned looking record, cassette tape, CD players for Christmas...now I'm going to have to get myself one! I still have my records from when I was a kid. There is nothing better than putting on a record and hearing that perfect scratchy sound coming from it!

  • Wow, on the record player. really brings me back. You really dont appreciate childhood untill you an adult.

  • amazing

  • I have the 1945 version of that song on a 78. I played it on my GE Wildcat portable stereo record player from 1975 and it sounds fine due to hissing in the background when a 78 was played with just an LP needle. Playing "White Christmas" on a 78 on a GE Wildcat would sound udder crap.

  • i have this same record player it still works great we had to find the bing records on ebay

  • Noone can Beat this man for this song, he is the Best. since I was a kid I grew up with him

  • This was my mother's favorite performer and was her favorite song.

It brings tears to my eyes as mother is deceased.

    RIP Mom

  • this entire scene is so comforting :) the 40s seemed like such a glamorous and romantic age...I'm more traditional and would easily take that time over any to be honest...just look at the beautiful cars as well. Everything was innocent and inviting...if only society could remember its roots.

  • Thanks for doing this. It's a heart warming little piece of history. Good for you!

  • I love this classic song. This song came out during some of the harshest fighting in the Pacific vs. the Japanese forces. It was an instant hit and gave our troops abroad a taste of home if they got the chance to hear it. God Bless America!!

  • i love this

  • The best vid ever.

  • How lovely. And such a pretty setting. Thanks ! Always good to know Christmas will be back, isn't it.

  • i wonder why they don't play this version on the radio... so much better than the late '40s re-recording that Bing did.

  • I love the song of course, the stereo console and the cozy Christmas setting. Thanks for outting this together and posting!

  • Yaaaaay, thanks very much

  • Thank you so much for uploading the greatest christmas song ever made! It's so nice to hear it with its' "original sound"... Crosby's version is infact the most sold single of all time of any genre! Thank you again:-) Merry Xmas from Iceland=)

  • I'm very touched. White christmas is so heart rendering. Thank you and thank you a million times!

  • Lancerhammer, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching.

    Regards, J.

  • I have the later recording of this on Decca. Used to, every year I would put a stack of Christmas 78's on the RCA console, and let them play as people entered the house for the Christmas party. The RCA is from 1947. Would have loved to have watched this play! Thanks for the video. Ah...such memories.

  • Mortitio, I'm pleased you enjoyed it, thanks for watching and thank you for sharing your fond memories with us.

    Regards, J.

Thank you so much for this video. Just for some additional information - When Bing Crosby recorded this song the Ken Darby Singers were actually called the "Kings Men" consisting of Ken Darby, John Dodson, Bud LInn, Rad Robinson (my father in-law). You can hear my father in-law when the harmony starts he is the baritone and also whistles. My husband was very happy to hear this also.

  • Very rare "first issue" recording, indeed- the only reason Bing recorded this again in 1947 was because the original master was just "worn out" from all the copies Decca pressed during the war, right into 1946. Naturally, all reissues dated from the second version...

  • FTSL, Heh Heh! An amazingly popular number,.... deservedly so. Every year I see a copy for sale someplace for an exorbitant price and have to chuckle. Thanks for watching-I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

    YF, J.

  • Very interesting, thanks.

  • KenKY4, Thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed the recording.

    Regards, J.

  • @fromthesidelines That is why I have this version on a 78 which is from a 78 4-record set called "Merry Christmas". I played all of them on my GE Wildcat depending on the sound quality, it sounds decent when playing on a 78 with an LP needle due to a lot of hiss.

  • John, did you pay $500 for that record on Ebay? :-)

  • Rocky, Only $500.00? Did you see it on sale!? ;-) I only have four or five copies so I do need at least one more. ;-)

    YF, J.

  • I have this on 78 too, but how stupid of me not to think to listen to it around Christmas.

  • VtoV, How could you forget White Christmas!?! ;-) Just kidding. There's always next year. Regards, J.

  • The 1942 White Christmas recording sounds great on this instrument but I'm afraid that the more common 1947 re-recording would overwhelm the sound box. Merry Christmas!

  • Laoperaman, I was a bit surprised this one didn't blast at all. This is the '42 recording, however IIRC it's a much later pressing. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks. Regards, J.

  • Yes, I went back to your upload of last year and again I'm most agreeably surprised how well this disc sounds despite actually being too recent a record for your 1920's Granada. As wonderful as ever, thank you.

  • Kspm01, Thank you! Yes, it really is amazing how well designed these machines were, isn't it!

    YF, J.

  • Simply wonderful. Honestly, it's just simply perfect!

  • LK..., Thank you so very much for your wonderful compliment. Regards, J.

  • Actually the Granada copes perfectly well with these quite recent electrical recordings. Lovely! Thank you as well for this view on a cosy corner of your sitting room, made even cosier by the wonderful candles.

  • Kspm01, Thank for all the kind words. This is my sanctum santorum, where I escape from the hustle & bustle of modern life. We all need a little corner someplace. :-) Regards, J.

  • Indeed, especially in this frenzy world. I already wish you a happy and healthy New Year... full of great music too.

  • Kspm01, Likewise! :-) Regards, J.
