  • my knowledge of japanese new music composers is shamefully limited..... do u have any suggestions of good composers from japan??

  • i like very much his music. thank you for this posting..

  • It's good music, made according to the standards of new music as they are taught since several years at the academies of music. But I wonder if 'jonoivind' can really recognize specific features of this composer. Perhaps his knowledge of modern music is limited.

  • "GreaggaryPeccary": these two words, I haven't thought about them for just too long and they brought me to exquisite memories of Zappa. Thanks! Than I took a look on your channel and it's really great! I was searching for Hosokawa for some knowledge. I think I'll hang around...

  • excellent music.

  • i wonder if this is somehow linked to the japanese culture itself, which is pretty much chinese. That itself represents a huge identity conflict...

  • @Justino111

I think there are a lot of difference between Japanese and Chinese cultures. They have different historical background, speak completely different languages. I think Chinese culture is more bright and clear so its easy for us to feel what the Chinese. Japanese is very different, they did not find beauty in obvious object. They found the beauty of silence, simpleness but in deep. This is what I like about Japanese. They have great atmosphere which Chinese does not have very often.

  • Possibly. I know about three

  • that was fast...

i don't know...when I listen to chinese composers I always get something somewhat different, something personal...even if it's a sort of cliche at this point...but I miss that when listening to japanese composers, specially the young ones.

  • That is so not true; I can almost always tell after just a few bars that it's Hosokawa. Having heard only some of his music for orchestra and large ensembles earlier, I bumped into a duo for viola and accordion a few minutes ago. You can immediately tell it's the same man, a remarkable blend of Japan, modernism and romanticism.

  • The full six minutes of this piece "Interim" kindly posted here by Mr. GreggaryPeccary could have been composed by about five thousand, four hundred and thirty six composers. I am sure Hosokawa is one of them.

  • We've got it, thank you. Now please get over it and comment on something you actually enjoy
