I think there are similarities between McCabe and the character Daniel Plainview in There will be blood. Anybody know if Daniel Day-Lewis took inspiration from Beatty's performance? Which is wonderful btw :)
One of a kind film...Altman's best? The villians... the giant with the big bore rifle, the baby faced killer.... The submersion into the town's setting as if you were there.Great '70's movie. Never again ..Movies are rollercoaster rides now.
@CelebGhost the ending is very like 'women in love' - where gerald, doomed by his own arrogance and blindness to his real sexuality, lies in the snow and dies.
@Staszu13 Interesting perception. How did she know he was doomed? Was she sent there by Sears to convince McCabe to sell out? Did her past experience give her insight into what was going to happen? Did she solicit the partnership with McCabe because she knew what was going to happen, and she knew that after he was dead she would be well paid to sell out her share? Tell me more,
Damn this is sad, I felt so bad for McCabe; at least he killed those bastards before he kicked the bucket...

Wouldn't it be funny if all the actress cast as Seattle whores were all from Seattle?

The ending is like a Bret Harte story as McCabe freezes to death just a short way from home.

It's an egg, it's the world. What if she was pregnant, took the money, went to San Francisco?
Still, a cautionary tale about an idiot taken down by a pretty junkie. Happens every day.

@punxsutawneybarney In the Altman's original screenplay, she leaves the city and two years later the city is empty and failed.

@thunderbolt94 I think I agree, and the entire ending sequence is also classic.

@thunderbolt94 Yes, only The Great Silence (1968) is bleaker.
