  • damn son, this made iOS and even the ugly android look uglier

  • Quick question, does it have a micro-SIM or a Normal SIM card? I wan't to switch from my iPhone but get it outwright without messing with the contract and just be able to pop my sim card in there.

  • God, this UI looks like shit.

  • About to start saving up every penny I get to buy this before the year is over.

  • nice phone. When did it come out?

  • @phonedog i likhe dhis fonhe ah lotts

  • i likhe dhis fonhe ah lotts

  • at 1:38 did he said "socks"?

  • which is better, droid or windows?

  • @miznene205 Its really what appeals to you. If you want a phone that gets the jobe in fewer steps then go with Windows. If you want something with endless customization then go with Android. Personally Windows Phone is for me. I don't have time to hack my phone for hours on end. I need somethig that will help me be productive in as little time as possible. Granted Windows Phone is missing some apps, its gaining ground. The one thing it has over Android though is the OS is complete.

  • The way u do this makes the phone look like shit.and y does it load soooooooo fucking slow

  • I wanna get a windows phone but not sure which one to go with. Should i get this or the HTC Titan

  • @charlieecv Go with the Titan. Its a larger screen and it has a better battery. I don't like the Focus S for a few reasons: Battery isn't as good as the Titan, the build quality feels like cheap plastic (the titan feels super solid), the power button is on the side (why they continue to do this is beyond me), HTC Hub is far better than Samsung Now, Samsung color saturation is all over the place (whites have a bluish tint)....I could go on.

  • @charlieecv you have to know a few things, go to att, and check out the screen difference, this is using amoled, which i love, black is black, colors are well saturated, and the titan is using lcd instead, black is only dark gray

  • @leabuelo I bought the samsung skyrocket instead. awsome phone.

  • @charlieecv you did the best :D, my brother has that phone, amazing

  • This things big. I have a normal focus and can't decide between this one and the flash, which is smaller than my original focus.. hmm wonder which ones louder on music and speakerphone.

  • But Nokia Lumia it's much better!

  • I love this phone!!

  • nokia lumia looks much better! :)

  • @aeondale11 that shit is thick as hell

  • @1chnboy Your face is thick

  • Fuck Samsung, sluggish piece of shit can't even receive and send images, WTF!!!!, Iphone is going to be my next upgrade phone! So fuck you!

  • @l0chris dumbass

  • @1chnboy Dickface

  • i feel like we got off on the wrong foot here. i am, in no way, an apple fanboy. i buy things because of how they look, and most importantly, how they perform. and android didn't do it for me. I'm over blackberry, and the only wp7 phone on verizon in the trophy which, to me, looks low end. i'm very interested in windows phone, and if iOS doesn't change, i'll most likely get wp7. i thought you were trying to back android which pissed me off. the os, and it's hardware are fucked.

  • oh. i thought you were a phandroid... i'm talking about the os. android phones fuck up all the time which is why they're so cheap. well... that and hardware. the titan is incredible. i just used it at at&t today actually. it's a big phone, but it is contoured properly. same with the hd 2. most android phones are boxy and awkward on top of big. and the htc phones are steel unibody... and their retail price is also high because of the material and os. Software plays a huge role in price.

  • i also like to talk so i said way more than i needed to. let's do this. 16GB iPhone 4s = 199.99 on contract. samsung galaxy SII = 199.99 on contact. iPhone 4s retail = 649.99. galaxy s retail = 449.99. the reliability of the device determines how much a carrier discounts it. if its awesome, carriers will buy an 16Gig iPhone for 700 and sell it for 200. because they make the money back by not having to give away replacements when the phone shits the bed. sorry for the confusion.

  • i tend to say whatever is on my mind without proof reading. i apologize. i know droid is android. which is also retarded. you don't trademark a product line if it just features another product. typical android. i had a droid, a droid x, and a droid 3. out of all of them, the x was the worst one, and i have big hands. it doesn't matter how big your hands are. the phone is still enormous and awkward when you're used to normal.

  • Should i get the s or the flash??????

  • They cut off my comment, but the reason why I returned it is because I own a MacBook and transferring my music can only be done thru Zune. And I'd have to download a software to remove all the dmg tags off my library then run Parallels or Bootcamp, and buy a windows OS for my MacBook. Just too much hassle.

  • Id like to say that I returned the AT&T Samsung Focus back to my iphone4. First off, the Windows OS is great. The pinch to zoom is soo smooth, probably even better than iOS. The flow is great too as far as a user interface. And as far as clarity, my girlfriend said it was the same as my iPhone, and on my end, she sounded just as good. Reception spots for me in NJ were the same, my coworkers had the same amount of "bars" on their devices with the same carrier. Now this is why I returned it. I o

  • iOS, windows, android.

  • also. the size of the phone isn't even what bugs me. it's the awkward reaching and teetering of the phone to get your thumb to the top or bottom corners of the phone. it's very inconvenient, uncomfortable and risky. seeing how you pay 200 for the phone. i had a droid x. (screen size made me mad). all I'm saying is don't use it as a (anything is better than iPhone) argument. because apple could easily make the screen larger. but a lot of people find it difficult and unnecessary.

  • @skittleschocolate Actually, Apple can't just easily make the iPhone's screen larger, because making it it larger would not make it a retina display, and if they're still going to make it into a retina display, Apple must spend more into production for higher resolution screens and a larger overall chassis, and that would make the iPhone even more expensive.

P.S. Don't make your opinion about screen size ergonomics speak for a lot of people, because some might find a 4" screen comfortable.

  • i'm not stupid, i know that. thats why every wp7 device, regardless of screen size has 800X480 resolution. but if they did it once with iOS4, i'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind tweaking the os to support a different pixel ratio. right now, iOS supports 320X480, and 640X960 resolution. and i don't think a company with more money than the country it's in would have a problem paying for production of a feature that would sell their product to millions more. and PS. you'd be surprised.

  • @skittleschocolate Yeah... increasing the budget for production will also increase the price. If Apple did that then they might throw away costumers. Hurting their profit margins in return. See, Apple is already getting screwed by Android on smartphones, so do you really think that Apple can easily mass produce and sell an iPhone with a larger display and price? And don't say that they can always make their prices a constant, because that's still decreasing their profit margins.

  • apple has more cash than google, and google can make multi display support happen. i'm pretty sure it won't be a problem. they're already developing a 4 incher and i'm pretty sure myself, and a few hundred million others will have no problem paying an additional 20 for it.

  • even though it won't happen because anyone with a brain knows that unless you want to pay retail, you buy the phone on contract. the carrier buys the phones, and sells them to you discounted with your signature. it's like they're saying thank you for locking yourself in with us. a retail iPhone is $600. and they sell it for 200. a retail droid is $400... you still get it for 200.

  • anyone with a brain knows you don't pay the full price for any phone. if you did, you'd be paying twice the price. an iPhone retails for 650 for the 16gb model. you only get it for 200 because you're signing a contract. it's like they're saying thank you. if the phone's reliable, the carrier will take the initial hit because they don't have to pay for countless replacements because the product is shit. apple has a good track record. so carriers will pay 675 for the 4 inch screen and sell for 200

  • oh and as far as the chassis goes... have you seen the bezel on the iPhone? i think they have a half inch to work with. anyway, the retail price of the iPhone rose from the 3gs to the 4. it went up 50 dollars. but if you buy it on contract you get it at a discounted price. think a little more.

  • the bezel on the iPhone isn't huge. it's very narrow. it's tall, but at least you can hold it. also its tall so they can A) keep the same form factor they've had, and b) put all of the components in without adding extra bulk(cameras, speakers, proprietary jack) a lot of android phones have a problem with that. (see: droid x, droid x2, droid razr, droid incredible, samsung galaxy s phones, many htc phones(see camera bulge). and since when is 3.5 small. 4 is big. anything else is too much.

  • I see the yellow pieces on the screen - 2:25

Is that screen's problem or camera's?

  • great os... great phone hardware... why the fuck do they need to mark up the front of it? apple doesn't, so it's not impossible. put that shit on the back. the only time you'll be advertising is when you're making a call. you, the owner, don't need to see it. you know your carrier, and who made your phone. stop marking these great looking handsets up and put it all on the fucking back. you don't need it on both sides.

  • Why is calling and call quality not mentioned on PHONE reviews these days???

  • does it have flash also

  • Gott to qett this, needd firework my stories..

  • this or htc titan??

  • @9volt24 I would go with the Samsung Focus S. It's thinner and it makes the phone look more awesome.

  • @9volt24 The HTC Titan has very similar specs, but is bigger with a 4.7 inch screen

  • why the fuck does anyone need a phone with a screen that big. please tell me this.

  • @skittleschocolate Because a moderately-sized phone with a big screen is better than a moderately-sized phone with a small screen and a huge bezel (see: iPhone).

  • Why does Verizon never gets windows phones!!!!! I would buy this phone

  • This is probably the best choice of choosing a Wp7 =)

  • 1:03 - people who use it for media, browse the web, use it for music, watch porn this should be a prety decent device for you

  • @ykid1195 LOL

  • seriously, why is no one talking about this phone? i see the flash everywhere but this is completely nowhere to be seen. I just want some more info before I dump money on this

  • No full reviews for this phone anywhere as of today. I got this phone a few days ago. Ask away your questions!

  • @KiranStevens Quick question if you don't mind. What is the call quality like on this phone?

  • ok has anyone else bought this phone? I did and i found a major turn off. the music sound quality is horrible. i tried looking for some sound settings but found none. Has anyone noticed this? I dont really want to return it.

  • @ZR1Terror Do you mean the audio from the speaker or through the headphones?

  • @KiranStevens the headphone jack, I know its not a WP7 problem. Its Samsung that decided to use cheap audio hardware on the sweet phone.

  • @ZR1Terror Okay. So I've had Zunes up until this point (Creative Zen before that). All those players had pretty stellar audio quality. Frankly the Zune HD was pretty awesome as far as sound quality goes. This phone is good but it's not quite up to the par I'm used to. You said "horrible" sound quality. THAT, I have not experienced on this phone. There are no EQ settings oddly. The sounds is a little hollow, a little trebbly and lacking in some bass but overall its good.

  • @KiranStevens Really? Damn, I feel like a hardcore audiophile. Compared to my iPhone 4 and Galaxy S2, the sound quality is bad. But I can't get rid of this phone. I fell in love with WP7, I will sell the Galaxy S2 and iPhone 4 then buy an iPod for my music. :)

  • @ZR1Terror I'd go back to AT&T and get it exchanged. It's a cheaper and more convinient option than buying an iPod and carrying that around too. I think something is wrong with your phone, they'd definately let you grab a new one.

  • @ZR1Terror If it's that bad take it back or try to use that limited warranty. Because I use my phone as a player for my AT m50's with cmoybb headphone amp and its pretty damn good. No need for ipod required.

  • @Kenweng04 Really? Then there is something definitely wrong with mine.

  • I wish it came to sprint :(

  • samsung sucks!!!!!!!!!

  • @90supergirl1 no u

  • @strandpojken92 no you

  • Thumbs down this wanna be Noah

  • I'm a bit confused.

The Focus S runs mango but on my Focus I have the alphabet filter in my programs list with mango (which I assume everyone else does)... Why isn't it on the Focus S? Is this an optional feature now? Or did they choose to exclude it?

  • @tremaynenorris It depends on your total number of apps ;-)

  • @tremaynenorris It only happens when you have enough apps.

  • The S stand for SEX.

  • Anyone please reply. Do you guys think the price for this phone will go down to $99.99 in a month or so? I'm really deciding between this or the Motorola Atrix 2, but I'm a little put down by the pricing. Thanks

  • @LegoAnimat go for the atrix 2

  • AT&T orange makes everything look ugly

  • why is samsung making windows phones? what's next a samsung with black berry OS? haha

  • @MrDjru31az im not sure why you asked that. why does samsung make computers, tvs, tablets, etc.? .... to make money

  • @rdknght17 I know it does but I remember samsung making regular cell phones and now android phones

  • @rdknght17 but i remember samsung from doing their own phones and android phones and of course i know they make tv's, tablets, and computers I just tought it was weird to see a samsung phone running WP 7

  • Heyy, how's the battery power on the new Focus S? I'm probably getting it very soon if it isn't eaten up quickly by the new processor. Thanks!

  • i have the first focus and love wp7 this seems a bit ugly to me im waiting about another 6 months for some amazing Nokia devices

  • Any new windows phones coming to sprint? Please reply

  • @IISWAGGXX a huawei, but its unofficial, only time will tell

  • lol U can make a whole review of the phone while page is loading up..extra fast :D

  • 2:05 notice how the screen dims on a white background, just like on the original Focus (sneaky tactic by Samsung to save battery). No turning auto brightness off does not disable it, and no it's not just his camera refocusing.

  • How does the "plus" compare to the Focus' current screen? Does it look about the same?

  • @JayceeCrumbs the only difference is non-Plus is pentile, and the Plus is non-pentile (i.e. RGB patterned subpixels). If you have reasonable eyesight, text is sharper/more clear on RGB/non-pentile screens.

  • @j3ff86 Thanks. I meant more as a side by side comparison. I guess I'll have to go to a store and look for myself on this one. The only thing delaying getting this phone is the rumored Nokia Ace and average battery life. One review said 22 hours moderate use. Hard to believe when my moderate use now doesn't last a day on Focus.

  • There is only one good Android phone that is any good and thats the Samsung Galaxy II S every other Android phone is SHIT!!

  • @pkerry12 oops just realised it was a windows phone, so it ROCKS

  • @pkerry12 no.

  • @pkerry12 forgetting the galaxy nexus?

  • u meant 1.5 gigahertz snapdragon processor

  • @jofirih7800 The Focus S has a 1.4 ghz processor, the HTC Titan has an 1.5 ghz.processor. Stupid to have just a .1 difference but thats what they chose.

  • Waste of a Wish... Shud'ov wished for the iPhone 5 to come out earlier

  • you should make a video comparison of the HTC Titan vs the Samsung Focus S

  • Comment removed

  • @KiranStevens It comes w/ 16gb of storage. I just read it on engadget's website.

  • @KiranStevens 16 gigs - no micro SD like in Focus.. so only 16 gigs..

  • @KiranStevens

    It's 16.

  • @KiranStevens The Focus S has 16GB of memory.

  • you wasted your wish :(

  • Man, I wish this would have come to Verizon! Darn you VZW!!!

  • Finally it's out! i would'nt get nokia's wp7, i getting focus s =D

  • @kayeeman566 might as well buy this, install FunDroid and pass it off as a Galaxy S II. DONT BUY ANDROID

  • GET A ANDROID N INSTALL LAUNCHER 7 . . . dont buy this thing

  • @kayeeman566 yea but android laggs so that wouldnt help

  • Wow took forever to load up!! If that were a sprint phone he would have bashed there service lol!!

  • @bluestarkad17 it will only separate if you have alot of apps. Try it yourself. Delete all your data and see if it will be separated. Minimum 20 marketplace apps to be classified

  • @AlvinPhilemon thanks for the tip, but seriously, do you really think im going to delete all of my apps lol...it would take to long to reinstall them all

  • Aaron, you can't say your wish out loud, or it won't come true!!!

  • whoa whoa whoa...how is this mango??...when he went to the second screen it didnt have the letters that separate the apps into ABC order

  • @bluestarkad17 Yeah it's Mango, but the Lumia 800 doesn't have that either for some reason I noticed when using one today. Very odd.

  • Coy*

  • Seriously...what's the storage ? Everyone seems so shady with the storage info . I'm glad u guys have a hands on video , but everyone wants to know the storage. Why be koy ?

  • lol, Engadget..

  • How much storage does the Focus S have Aaron?

  • @Xuxa16 16GB

  • Welll its got something to do with microsoft and shitbox so no thanks

  • I wouldve rather it have a 1.4ghz hummingbird proccessor than a qualcomm :/

  • @rsalina9 The Qualcomm processor is hardware accelerated, it'd be slower with the Hummingbird

  • Does windows support flash

  • @asf9812 No who uses Flash on the phone anyways?

  • @asf9812 it supports HTML 5, which is on par if not better than flash

  • Comment removed

  • Windows mango looks gay. I'm still planning on getting the galaxy nexus. :-P

  • @salx101 Didnt know a Mobile OS had a sexual preference. Havent heard of Windows Mango though, have you troll

  • fuck the nokia phone this is awesome

  • I have been waiting for this phone. finally on november 6th i can grab this device up. I lost my Zunehd and my Android Verizon contract is up.. good timing this phone looks sexy and I love the UI. I was hoping for a 32 gb model though.. I hear only 1 price tag of 199.99 so I dont expect 32 gb will be available on Sunday. Atleast you get like 50 gigs of cloud support but thats not quite the same as nand memory.

  • Engadget are apple fanboys

  • @joeyomega117 Ikr phone dog can be unbais on that front

  • @joeyomega117

"A huge network of electronics reviewers favor one phone over the other."

Fixed that for ya.. maybe you should get the clue?

  • @joeyomega117 same with cnet

  • @joeyomega117 why

  • I never watch WP7 reviews. Once you've seen one... YOUVE SEEN THEM ALLLLLL

  • @Khronicks Not really. Each handset is significantly different, just the OS remains the same. The Focus S and the HTC Titan for instance, are two very different devices.

  • I don't know if i should get this or wait many months for the Lumia 800!!!!

  • looks a little like a WP Fascinate with some extra girth

  • why not 1.5 ghz it wont really make a difference but why 1.4?

  • Have to admit, other than that slow load time which I'm sure was a fluke, it looks great. Here I am waiting for the vivid on Sunday and may have to take a serious look at this phone, or trade the wife's old captivate for a reg focus. Just curious, are windows phones over clockable?

  • I have learned that a higher clocked single core will work better on iOS and Windows Phone 7 devices. Apple only puts it in their devices to stop people from complaining they can't say they have a dual core processor. Shame, it causes battery drain as well..

  • @hunkashoo Dual-Core drain battery less than single cores :)

  • I really like WinPho7.5. I would definitely consider this device or something like it.

  • Imagine a dual core wp7! Ahhhh!!

  • @Mcode3996 Specs aren't there to brag with!!! If the OS doesn't need that kind of power and maybe doesn't even support it, why increasing the price and lowering stats of users database for nothing?!

When WP supports multicores and have the need (Graphically intensive games and such) it'll have Multi-core

  • @DarknesSxLDS They slow the progression of technology.

  • Using pretty much any Windows Phone device is the same. That's a good thing and a bad thing. There's no point in having so many different models if the user experience is nearly the same. But at the same time, it's extremely smooth and doesn't have fragmentation issues that Android does.

  • @pyeclam I would take choice (aka, Fragmentation) over unified experience any day..

With Fragmentation, just choose the thing that is a bit future proof (like, Dual-Core) and from a decent manufacturer that has a good history with updates (Fragmentation is NOT affecting you in anyway... it's affecting others with bad choices so why do you care?)

On the other hand, with ONE Experience you have NO choice.. you don't like something you're stuck with it.. end of story... you can't change anything.

  • @DarknesSxLDS I prefer Android because I usually root and put a custom rom. But the main issue with Android is the crashing/inconsistency. Aaron critiqued this and justly so. Android is improving, but I still have yet to use an Android phone where I would recommend to a first time smartphone user over iOS. I'm using the GS2, which is arguably the best Android phone, and I still get minor issues here and there. They never happen on my father's iPhone 4 or my iPod touch.

  • @pyeclam It's good for having different form-factors and hardware specs. I love my Surround, the stereo speakers are great and no other phone has them. I also just got a TITAN, and the large screen is great for video and visibility. Basically every phone has one or two things that sets it apart from most others, and that lets users pick the phone that's right for them.

  • @pyeclam Fragmentation with Android isn't a real issue if we're talking top-tier devices, which we should be, since the iPhone and most of the WP offerings are top-tier.

  • Some manufacturer needs to differentiate itself and offer more than a paltry 16GB max storage for these devices. What's the point of Zune on these phones when you'll run out of space in no time?

  • @pyeclam The point is the "hubs" each manufacture makes as well as having a diverse selection of devices

  • @pyeclam Consistency is a very positive thing, and for sure it out weighs the negative part, at least Apps will work across all devices without even thinking about it, no different UI to lock you in one manufacturer you are totally free to transfer to any manufacturer or any carrier for that matter, and yet get the same experience you want.

  • @pyeclam I'd rather have the fragmentation and CHOICE than no choice. Who dows The iPhone can get away with all their phones looking the same, Microsoft can not!

  • @EDX282 their phones don't look the same. are you blind?

  • @pyeclam there's a form factor difference, different cameras, and different preloaded software. :P that's about it.

  • really interested in this phone.. but what happened with that page load...does it usually take that long to load the phone dog page?

  • With Nokia joining WP family, I think no other WP kind is better than his. CBD and artistic design from Nokia is the best I ever seen nowadays.

  • titties

  • he surely doesn't like windows phones... he didn't do a review... at all

  • @manpaisa92 - this is a hands-on video, not a review video

  • hey samsung y u use a snapdragon processor ?

  • @thecityboy781 I think Microsoft requires them to use snapdragon processors with their WP7 devices

  • @ArsenalBA i thought they was gonna use either a new hummingbird processor or a single core exynos processor
