I just view it as a more effective way to understand someone's point, and to get some insight into their personality. It just seems to me that the limited range of the vocal style shouldn't have spawned a whole genre. I would hold that there are a few true innovators of the genre, and much of the rest are just following the crowd. (which is the case for many genres).
