  • Great video what are the benefits of dynam over static stretches before competition? How come a lot of trainers don't even know this?

  • @iwanttofight69 Purpose of the warm up is to WARM UP. static stretching does not help in this manner. Some static stretching is fine but it should then move into dynamic and foam rolling also.

  • @Transform1234 Hey thanks for the reply, i fight mma so what would you recommend for me to do for my pre warmup, would it be alot of dynamic stretches with some foam rollling, what would the foam rolling do to help me out?

  • @iwanttofight69 Warm up using movements you tend to do in MMA. Foam roll areas you find at tight as this will help improve tissue quality

  • Thanks! That makes a lot of sense, I'd heard of dynamic stretching before but was just doing static style stretching for shorter times. It's good to see how it should be done!

I usually jog for a few minutes before exercising just to warm up. Would you recommend doing the dynamic stretching before or after this?

  • i recommend always doing dynamic first before any type of exercise - foam rolling can help lots also

  • Cheers for the answers...just another quick question...if a muscle is particularly tight before training would you advise doing any static stretching to concentrate on that muscle??

  • no i would get the client to foam roll it for 2-3 mins or until it felt a bit more loose and then do some dynamic stretching and warm up well for the exercise that you are about to take

  • the arms backwards is just from seeing hundreds of clients with a forward shoulder position so i see no need in promoting forward rolls as most do not need that - i also get clients to do band pulls or face pulls at the start to promote shoulder retraction.

The hamstrings and calves stretches are not ballistic at all and perfect for warm up but if you are really tight to begin with the range i use in the video might be too much for you so do what you can

  • Cheers for the video....just wondering why you should move your arm circles backwards only?? and is there a danger that the dynamic stretches you use for the calfs and hamstrings might become more of a ballistic type stretch??

  • no worries - static stretching before any type of exercise can be harmful to performance

  • Thanks for that. Useful info re dynamic stretching, have always held my stretches before exercising in the past.
