u prolly allready answerd this.. but whats the hook at the beginning that you recommend called? the silver one.. it looks like the second one you said wouldnt work?
@macasdude the one that works best is called a circle hook i go by the size hook by the size fish u want to catch if u want a huge catfish then u go for a bugger hook size if u want a good size catfish to eat then a smaller hook
those circle hooks work great, caught a nice channel this morning using chicken livers on a circle hook,I put a package of strawberry jello in the tub of chicken livers and let it set over night in the fridg... good stuff for cats.
Dude circle hooks suck if ur not fishing fast moving water because if u just throw a circle hook out there is a big chance that the cat can just spit it right back out
We fish almost the same way. But I am on the fence about cirle hooks yet. They work ok. I use 8/0 tuna bait holder hooks on 30#+ Blue catfish. When fishing for smaller channel cats I never wrap my livers but I have learned over the years how to thread it on a single hook. I can't even shake it all off when I am done fishing. A little tip is to carry it in a small cooler in the summertime with a ice pack. I throw my hooks ,sinkers, pliers ect. in there also so I am not packing a ton of stuff.
2 things: I use octopus hooks all the time and catch plenty of catfish; also, I have the same pole and the three eyelets that are supposed to glow in the dark do not. A lightstick or bell is needed for nightfishing
@BigJoesfishing I'll have to try that then. I usually go out an hour or two before dusk and figured the sun would charge it up enough to glow at least a couple hours into the night. How long does glow when charged?
HEY.. SO HE SAID POUNDS .. NOT OZ. YOU KNEW WHAT HE MEANT CANT YOU JUST BE THANKFULL NOT MANY FOLKS QILL TAKE THE TIME OUT TO DO A VIDEO AND HELP OTHERS OUT WITHOUT WANTING SOMTHINE IN RETURN ... I KNOW YOU WOULD NOT ..
@ igunsmart u mean to tell me you have never ever have had a fish break your line because it was so large .. i think we want a stronger line for piece of mind .. so whats wrong with that ... ? JESUS I TELL U
all u guys using 50 pound line... lol really most record cats are caught on light rig crappie fishermen. my budy caught a 52 pound flat head on 6 lb line. 20 pound is all u will ever need btw crank you drag up. that reel.will break under 30 lbs anyway. wtf?
50 pound braided test is for salt water charter boat fishing bro. All you need is 15 or 20 for the hudson unless its striper season and your in deep water i would say 25 but 50 is a little much
@Thatuptownguy not raley for striped bass i had a couple of hits that were stipers n they snaped the braided line n i use that pole for every kind of fishing that deals with big fish
@BigJoesfishing I dont wanna start a mini war but if a guy said he saw a "prophet"/angel or "jesus" now, they would label him as "Insane". Don't know why they wouldn't back then tho.......
But i'm not here to "corrupt" minds or anything. (like i said nice vid)
@HeavyChevyBoy95 i was showing to my friend how hard it is to real it in the wrong way cause he had a fish and we argued the wrong and right way to hold the fishing pole so thats why i was holding it the wrong way to show him how hard it is to real in that way! and i thought it was a cat fish at first so thats why we were video taping it
I just throw on size 3-4 treble hook and put on like 2-3 (depending on size) nightclawers. or size 3 cicle hook and use a SMALL blue gill head (caught at 30lbs channle cat on a bluegill head
can i ask wha circle hook size is best for catfish that are around 1-5 pounds?? there kind of small and i want to order it online but i need to know for sure to get the right size, i been using size 4/0 j hooks, thx if u reply!
@MustangJimmy816 i usually go with 4/0 i like to experiment with the sizes the smaller size hooks for smaller size fish but 4/0 is good for catfish sometimes if u gut to big of hooks the smaller catfish swallow the bigger hooks sometimes
Nice video i would put a bead on an also i would use a 30lb Mono leader...power pro frays easily an sometimes you may not even know it...the leader takes most of the abuse...or if you absolutely want to use braid as a leader maybe bump it up to 65lb test...
Where did you get the frozen shad? I as well use an ugly stick spinning rod with shimano sienna reel, 50lb powerpro, and 50lb leader. I don't understand thought why the bait would float up? You could put a peg float on the hook line, kinda like a santee rig, to make it float up.
@snoboarder8232 it floats off the bottom if u have a heavy enough rig on the Atlantic rig n it usually just floats off the bottom just a little ! glad to hear u have a similar set up
@TheAvidCatfisherman haha i know i cant believe i didn't realize that until a month later lol it was my second vid ever to be put on youtube so im getting better lol
@iphone3gsdivine nice tip with the red bead but i like the power pro cause of all the rocks where i fish it doesn't get stuck as easy cause the braid tends to float more so it doesn't get stuck on the rocks but i use both kinds of line
@cnycs1088 i love striper fishing i go on my uncles boat out of newburgh ny and go striper fishing i used this rig for stripers when i use blood worms then i was thinking what other fish would be good for this rig and i thought cat fish ever since i use this rig for both cat fish and stripers! PS i am pushing my uncle into putting his boat in soon lol ! For the uglystick tiger rods i think they sound good have not used them i have a ugly stick cat fish rod and it works wounderful for the hudson!
@BigJoesfishing - yeah im gonna go out tomorrow morning, i was asking about the ugly sikk becuase i was it at the walmart clearance for 13 bucks 7 foot 10-50 line. They obviously marked it wrong but i took it to the cashier and got it for 13 bucks which is quite a deal.
@39sam1992 i make rigs with fluorocarbon with the hook and on the other end a barrel swivel it is actual a great combination ! And i know it floats !!!!!!!
just wanted to note, that the circle doent "flip" and hook the fish, the fish does actually swallow the hook and the bait. it hooks the fish as the fish turns and swims away, the hooh gets pilled out of the stomach or throat if it hasnt reached the stomach yet and then hooks the fish's mouth, but i will definitly have try the chicken liver and panty hose thing.
@EthanNeitzelt65 ok thanks i learned that after i posted the vid with in that week lol and the chicken liver works great with the panty hose i will post a vid for that when i start fishing again in a few months but now im ice fishing
i fished witrh 50 and 65 pound braid i got tired of it now i use 20 pound line and it works very well i like it. plus i use a 12 foot and a 10 foot rod one a heavy and other a medium and i use 2 hooks.
on my spinning reel that i use for catfishing i like to use fire line crystal it works a lot better for catfishing and its super strong i would use30 pound though with fireline u need to try fireline crystal.
@jigaloe4nowatyahoo i use the same kind of hooks and i have used that way before but i find my way better for me because when the catfish get on the hook they don't feel the weight pulling them down the way the Atlantic rig series works
i use a abu 6600bcx bait clicker with 40lb power pro and a 6'6" medium-heavy rod hooked up with a 3 way with a 2oz on the botome then my leader to a offset J or a kahle hook and use worms or shad
@BigJoesfishing sweet i caught a nice flathead catfish 15lb on a live bluegill i let it sit for a week straight. also i snaged a 35lb bighead carp it was over 3ft long
awsome rig. i won that same fishing reel in a carp tournement its an okuma avenger baitrunner. its a good carp reel for fishing venues where your not long distance fishing. i have that reel spooled with the same line you have mine is just 40 pound power pro.
@catfishmania its a great reel! The rod is great to its only 30 dollars and is an ugly stick it glows in the dark it cats very far i would recommend it to any one !!!!!!!!!
