Grunge destroyed Glam, which was an MTV-created parasite that was leeching off Metal, and real Metal went back underground where it belonged, and has being thriving ever since. If anything, Grunge helped.

The only two things that keeps stuff like this from coming back in full force is all the focus on being tuff and heavy that shitty bands like Pantera and Slipknot popularized, creating a bastardized form of 'Metal', and the posers who defend it.

1- Glam Metal isn't a genre, it's a rock n roll fashion statement. Some of them were supposed to be pretty and others disturbing (shock rock). Musically, they're simply traditional Heavy Metal or Hard Rock.

2- Grunge isn't really a genre either. It's a marketing term. When Nirvana became mainstream, no one has ever heard of bands with that kind of sound on TV, so the term Grunge was coined to make people think that it was something new.

It's also a commercial bastardization of 70's Glam Rock. The only bands that seemed remotely Hard Rock/Heavy Metal were the handful of bands that actually were musically Hard Rock/Metal and just had the Glam image, like W.A.S.P.

Grim Reaper is traditional Heavy Metal, Poison is Pop Rock.
