Soul, Rock, Jazz, R&B and Classical.....it has everything! I grew up listening to this, danced in a talent show doing all the latest dance steps then when the symphony hit a little ballet........YOU TAKE MY MONEY, TRY TO TAKE MY MAN BUT YOU CAN'T EVER TAKE MY MEMORIES
I'm 47- be3en a Rolling Stones fan, a Jimi Hendrix fan, -all the old rock and even the Motown from Top 40 radio- I'm just floored by this song (and Billy Preston in general) listening on here tonight is gonna make me pick back up my guitar ans start this thing all over - from where I started playing Ohio Players and Earth Wind and Fire on horn in a Soul band when I was 15
okay, i get it.. you are __ years old, you like good music, and something else unexpected, and blah blahblah. please no more paragraph long comments about anything. using the internet to listen to music isn't anything to brag about.
Great song great musician, if you think thats something check out the story behind this song the battles billy had to go thru with record label, they eventually did it Billy,s and it work out the best for all.

I know some fans will probably tell me I'm crazy but as much as I love "Music Is My Life" I have always liked this album a little bit more... Don't know why I just do...
I'm 15 *sorry but I've just have to put that out* and I love this kind of music. I love almost every genre that actually sounds good but unfortunately this genertation only plays garbage. I will hopefully educate myself to a music teacher and play stuff like this and show the kids that there is much better stuff out there if you just look.
Peace my brothers and sister *I'm also white, lol*
@Undergroundhiphoop I am soo proud of you my man!! I am 36 myself!! I keep trying to tell this fool on FB that not all young kids like the current BS that plays and to not marginalize some of these young folks. I tell him he needs to do like me and read some of the Youtube postings by youn folks like yourself!! As a matter of fact I will post this too him to show him proof of what I was talking about!! LOVE YA and thanks for giving me hope on the young!
@Ediva75 No problem dude :D Me myself get happy when I find people like you, who shares the exact same love for music. Before I tell you the truth, I did listen to garbage but then my father played me some James Brown and I was blown away. I could really feel the soul, Now I love as mentioned every genre that has a message. Hiphop in the laste 70's and early 80's, Rock N Roll, Soul, Funk, Reggae, Blues, everything! That's why I want to be a music teacher, show kids that the radio aint it anymore
VIRGIN, why you would find it exciting to smell "gimps" in a "wheelchair" is beyond my ken. Why you would deign to extol your rather disgusting and utterly bizarre sexual fetishes on a Y/T thread dedicated to the great Billy Preston is indicative of an individual desperately in need of psychotherapy.
Get treatment asap. While you are at it, take your feckless, alcoholic Russian peasant parents along for the sessions, as they so obviously failed to raise you correctly.
@MrAngemystere virgin ? This is coming from a guy who's paraplegic and in a wheelchair. The only way a male paraplegic can have sex is anal sex. So, you must be a butt pirate right gimpy ?
I always felt that "I Wrote A Simple Song" was one of the pieces he ever wrote. However, most people in the world do not even know that he even penned it!
I bought this 45 when it came out then and worn BOTH sides out!!!
....and I bought L.L. Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out" when it came out-and on the Farmer's Blvd. track it starts out with a piano riff very similar to the opening to this song...is it the same sample?
If it is,OH NO they took a simple song and turned it Hip-Hop....
This, by the way, was the original designated A-side of his first single for A&M (#1320) in late 1971, but the record floundered before radio stations flipped it and played the other side - the instrumental "Outa-Space," which made the Top 10 in mid-'72.
He could've been singing about the horrible Phil Spector-ization (Wall of Sound) applied to the supposed-to-be stripped down "Let It Be" Beatles sessions that Billy sat in for and was released just a year or two before "Simple Song."
George Harrison on slide. His name appeared in the album as Hari Georgeson, because of the AM label. Iam 56, and listened for many times this great album. Cheers from Brazil!
I got this album with his undersign during a concert in 1971. My favorite song was and is still this one - Now I'm 55 and still love the tune...thanks for let me getting back to a great time of my past.
There are a lot, youre from fucking germany you´couldnt even hear this kind of music at the time american people did. Lear how to speak english or fuck the hell off
there should be an apostrophe in "you're" and "couldn't", and a period or comma after "germany". and you left out a period at the end. who should learn english again?
You're very wrong, sir. Many African-Americans crossed the Atlantic and went to Britain and Europe and got their start there. The British have more open minds than the Americans. One prime example will be Jimi Hendrix.
almost magical.

Sounds like George on guitar...

@angstenc:
It is George Harrison on guitar. Of course, Billy played on those great, funky late-era Beatles tracks and toured with George in the 1970s.
