An engineer for bell labs told me that you can cut Pyrex glass with glowing nichrome wire. While he worked there they would pull a glowing nichrome element through 1ft diameter pyrex pipes with 1in wall thickness like a hot wire though ice. The technique is better that any grinding technique as there are no residual microfractures.
thats a problem with tempering you got the glass hot in one spot to stop it from shattering you need to heat the whole window up slowly then cut it and cool it slowly
you cant grind very much off tempered glass, you cant cut it, and the weakest spot on tempered glass is the edge. when they heat glass and slowly cool it, the molecular makeup of the glass changes and makes it tougher than plate glass.
I believe you can, It's just that it cools to fast after the cut, you need an oven to lower the temperature slowly to room temp. Let me know if you try it. I've seen how they work with Murano Glass, after they finish working at more than 1000ºC, they put the vase on an tunnel oven (?) so its cools over time, when it reaches the other end of the oven its room temp. I believe it takes more than 2 hours to reach the other end.
I thought this "what if"... Very thin steel plate on top of the glass to be cut. There is the conductivity but what might happen? I think the glass cannot handle that thermal stress, but how about underwater? I am not professional, but I have heard that when very much amps in use, they cut underwater. 400A plasma cutter beats jet engine othervice on sound.
There was a guy in town who took the temper out of the vent windows and then cut them to fit in a chopped top truck. He said he did it in the oven at home. Anymore than that, I don't know.
But what's cool is he still had the original tempered glass labels on the windows.
@OSMxLOBBIES i so agree with you ,ive cut winshields with a sandblaster but a tempered glass can never be cut . that shit would not fly in my mercury .
Toughened glass needs to be "let down" before you can do anything with it. I think it needs putting in a large oven and being warmed up slowly. Its similar technology to Prince Rupert Drops.
well i could have did that with a cutting torch ... its just the pilot arc doing the cutting ... you could take the ground off of it and it would do the same thing ... its not actually conducting through the glass...
Tempered glass has internal stresses due to the tempering process. When a scratch or cut is introduced, the stresses are released by shattering. An interesting example of this is Prince Rupert's Drops or Tears. (You can search for video examples.) These are tempered dropped shaped glass pieces. When the tip of the tail is broken off, the drop/tear will shattered into a million pieces of fine glass powder.
Listen here is the Trick to Cutting Glass,,, Glass has to cool, down, and the sudden change in temp is what causes it to shatter (especially Safety Glass) here is the the Trick (I will put up a video as soon as possible) the trick is to Preheat your glass while cutting and after cutting. this will expand the glass and allow the glass to cool off slower then if you just applied the plasma direct.
Remember that you want to heat you glass up over 100' this will heat and cool your glass.
its toughened/tempered, so you cant do anything to the glass. Only reprosessing back to raw material you could cut that glass.
Any cutting or grinding must be done prior to tempering. Cutting, grinding, sharp impacts and sometimes even scratches after tempering will cause the glass to fracture.
why not show when it cools?

Does your next video show us how to cut steel plate with a glass cutter?? Hope not!

how to solve you problem of it cracking is to stick it in an oven and slowly bring the temperature back down
TheSuperleetness 1 week ago
This is why they cut glass under a layer of water when they use plasma. At least on a larger industrial scale. And that cutter is way weak.

Try placing the glass on a shallow bed of water. Just enough water to go to the top fo the glass. It is done when cutting thin steel to stop warpage.

to solve the glass from shattering , try quench/dip in sand...
the window of a F16 jet fighter is quench in a secret sand like material to give its flexibility and strength while it is still red hot
