ninja actually originated when spiritual awareness techniques from tibet made their way to the mountain warrior ascetics of japan. the so called "magic" they were capable of was actually wisdom based on universal laws as to b "ninja" meant to b awakened (spiritually enlightened)
I believe that another tool they employed to great and often devastating effect, was the psychological effect their reputation afforded them and which many believe, they did nothing to discourage, thereby strengthening the overall effect.
