I love this scene!!! One of my favorite moments! I love how the Doctor's character is shown in this scene and David Tennant does it brilliantly. I really miss David Tennant.
i thaught the doctor was going to say something different or something more powerful like the master's secret name but then again that was the first time i saw it, but that was the first time i saw it after two more times is finaly got the sentence "i forgive you"
You gotta love these two characters. I mean, I don't think there's ever been a TV relationship quite this complex. Plenty of love-hate, but not on this level. I mean, one the one hand they have every right to hate each other since all they do is try and ruin each other's ideals, but on the other hand they used to be BFFs and they're all they've got left of home, so they sort of love each other.
I agree with too much 'god-like' powers, but the 7th Doctor tended to hint towards aspects of this - not to mention who knows how long he has had a chance to hone his telepathic abilities. Personally, though I prefer a Doctor that is more.. 'down to Earth.' Most of this is due to RTDs 'magic power or 'sonic screwdriver'' solution instead of using the Doctor's mental problem solving abilities. Hope the 11th Dr. is more smart and less god / screw driver dependent.
Yes, Doctor, great idea, forgive the man 4responsible for the deaths of one tenth of the whole world's population...joking, I think this scene is sweet. :D I love the Doctor and the Master. <3
Ahhh...gotta love them two. I mean, the Doctor gets the power of a god, and we're all sitting there thinking 'Oh no! This is it! The end of the Master!' and then Jack grins this huge grin and you sit there and gasp as the Doctor turns off god mode, and hugs the poor Master, who is desperately trying to escape, then fogives the man for everything. Even the slaughter of 1 tenth of the worlds population.
That, and the little sob/sniffle that the Master does at 00:43 is just adorable :3
@flyfloyd333 Oh my gosh I know right? I hate the Master's character and love him at the same time. It's like on one hand he's completely horrible but on the other I kind of understand why he does what he does, being one of the last of the time lords and the only one who hears the drums all the time. I was so sad when he died the first time and then they did it to me again! I love John Simm as the Master!
I agree but you gotta wonder what the 9th or 6th doctor would have done. I don't think they would have murdered him (not the 6th at the least) but it would have been a very different scene I'm sure
Yeah but one problem I have with this new version of doctor who is that this doctor is sometimes showed to be almost godlike like here and in another episode when he clicks his fingers and the tardis doors open. It wasn't really like that in the classic series.
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand
John Simm's Master is returning for the last of this years four specials. He will join Freema Agyeman who is also reported to be in the last episode that will feature david tennant as the Doctor before he hands over to Matt Smith.
By the way, in the Master's second Pertwee appearance, when he was shown his greatest fear, it was revealed that he fears a god-like Doctor (kind of like what we see here) laughing down at him. When you think about that, the Master's horrified reactions in this scene make a lot of sense.
You have to remember that the Doctor and the Master were once very good friends, and were the only intellectual equals each other had ever had. Ever since Pertwee and Delgado, they've enjoyed a unique relationship as far as enemies go, in that they both seem to on some level enjoy their battles as friends may often do.
That's why "I forgive you" is so important, because the Doctor still obviously misses that man he was once friends with, and perhaps on some level the Master does too.
All those people thinking the Doctor said "I forgive you" just to hurt him, should go watch some Delgado!Master episodes and come back then. Preferably the very first one. At least to me it explained everything.
every fucking video theres a fan girl....its not going to happen love..
i just think this is one of the most powerful scenes that they wrote. violence is beyond the doctor. but those words "i forgive you" are like a knife in the masters heart. brilliant, another good one was rose and the doctor with their heads on opposite walls on parallel worlds.. sheer brilliance.
Meh....I thought it was a bit of a rubbish cop-out, everyone says his name and suddenly he's superdoc. On the otherhand, the "I forgive you" bit and the bit when the master dies is just so touching...

You have to admit that this is a very deep and touching scene. It shows that a hero's true strenght is compassion.

Totally agree. After all the master has put him through that he still embraces him and forgives him for what he's done is nothing short of amazing

The beauty of the show, well THE character that is Doctor Who, is beautifully captured here.
Basically he gets Godly powers and does he use them? No. Instead he tenderly embraces his worst enemy and forgives him.

Ignore the thumbs-down!
Anyway, thanks for the update. I have this growing obsession over Master (John Simm) and Martha (Frema Agyeman).
I know it's crazy, but I think the Master and M are totally hot. In a wierd but interesting way.
So, I'm glad they're back! Can't wait!
