What can I say but WOW! I love me some DP. IMHO, and it is an OPINION as musical taste is so subjective, Deep Purple is the best hard rock band ever. I personally did not care for the Hughes-Coverdale years but from the start in 1968 (Mark I line up) to present, they are the masters of the genre!!!!!!!!
I guess that is all up to personal taste as I did not care for the Hughes-Coverdale line-up. My favs always have Gillan on vocals or I also like the early Mark I version esp. the third and self-titled album. Good to hear from you as any Purple fan is a friend!
You are correct in your assumption, Gumby. There are a handful of songs that I do like from the other line-ups such as the title track of "Burn," but as a whole I do not care for the line-ups without Gillan on vocals and the Mark I albums with Blackmore, Paice, Evans, Lord, and Simper. Mark I was GREAT on acid back in the day.
Give up Gillan. Get Jimmy Barns guys

Here are the musicians making real music...not like a lot of today's commerical manufactured plastic shite. They really enjoy playing for us.

Genialer Song, eines meiner Lieblingslieder von Deep Purple. Ian ist nach wie vor ein charismatischer Sänger.
