What are talking about there? You need just your hands for shaping a well made bosal to your horses nose. Nothing in the Pacific slope style is shaped with force!
You ruins the feel and the life of the bosal this way.
@Westernbloggen however if you have very soft hands, which should be standard, the horse may never harden noticeably enough for you to bother going to a bridle and the reason people go to the bridle to keep the horse soft is because with the hand full of bits used, like a spade bit for example if it is used right it hardly touches the bars of the mouth and works mainly on the lips and tongue sensing changes in the weight of the reins not through direct pressure
@foiran And incidentally, one of the reasons why it is so important that a horse works closed mouthed with bits like a spade bit is because if it is open mouthed the bit wont be working properly and will most likely be on the bars of the mouth firmly which is not what is wanted
There isnt necessarily any reason you cant ride you horse all its life with a hackamore. Generally though the reason people might go to a bit through the two rein is because a horse MAY eventually harden on a hackamore simply due to it working through direct pressure on the horses muzzle the same as it will on most bits simply due to the direct action on the bars of the mouth. And we are talking a different meaning of soft an hard here to the average
QUESTION: I'm thinking of going bitless with my 3yro Angloarab. Drama's with snaffle bit, spends all his time thinking about the bit rather than me. Works better in a rope halter with makeshift rains attached. In Aus bosals aren't readily available and I'm looking for a more "english" look. I'm thinking of getting a side pull type bridle. Do you have any experience with these? And my major concern is control with a spooky very green horse. Will I have control?
@Westernbloggen : not everyone, I don't say that, it is not true and people that say can back it up with any fact only rumor and old tales. Most people are scared to ride in a bosal since they think they don't have control without a pain bit. So many people can't admit they don't know something so they pick and choose stupid things they have heard or want to believe and then repeat it to suit their needs.
Do bosals come with the band that goes around their ears, or do you have to buy it seperately?
