Poor Bono, this isn't the kind of song for him. We all know the incredible voice and talent he has and he's clearly nervous to be singing along Pavarotti.

@mathbrmath bono is okay at singing, i think its the never-ending manufactured sanctimonious outrage/rockstar-conscientiousness that alienates people by making him seem like a soft-fingered hypocrite. he's like a post-beatles john lennon impersonator. "AVE MARI. . . Aaah" the fuck is that? that's not a "style", that's how people doing heavy labour mumble along to the radio. i'm sorry, but bono is bogus.

Bono sang this very nicely considering it's not his genre of music. Ever hear him sing Miss Sarajevo! It's beautiful! Bono can sing anything. Can you imaging Pavarotti singing a U2 song? He could NOT do it!

There is no genre in music for a real singer. If you can sing, you could sing anything. And you are very uneducated if you think that Pavarotti couldn't sing something from a U2 song list. This clip proves that Bono is a faker.

you need an educated voice to sing this - bono hasn't. Listen to Nina Hagen's interpretation of this. She had been educated for opera singing. (Bono is even worse than cranberry)

As much as I like Bono, there is no way he can sing Ave Maria. Franz Schubert must be turning in his grave! Even Pavarotti doesn't sound very good on this extremely poor rendition of one of the most beautiful songs in this world!

I haven't seen such a crap performance since David Bowie and Bing Crosby teamed up to sing The Little Drummer Boy on Bings Christmas Special decades ago. What a disaster, but this tops it as a trainwreck of a performance.

Give Bono some slacks, folks. Hey, the guy's done a lot of good in the world using his time and money for the downtrodden, you've got to give him credit. He is not an opera singer like Luciano Pavarotti, so drop the comparison. Who says a pop singer/tenor can't sing with an opera tenor? Have you watched Pavarotti's duet with Bryan Adams? Or the late John Denver's work with Placido Domingo? Come on, guys, go easy on your critiques, just focus on the music.

@36whitedove NO...he sounds like that 'cos that's how he sounds without a few hundred grands worth of production equipment backing up his li'l squeaky rat voice. That's how he sounds when he talks or 'sings'...he has no voice. People are commenting like that because they HAVE an ear and can distinguish what that little squeaking sound is when Bono opens his trap.
