Sam is indeed truly everywhere. It was actually a bigger gathering with elevencolors and cooney as well, but there was never a good time to get out the camera - it was a real fun night.
Hehe, maybe you didn't notice but this actually was the place I took you last time mate! It's a good spot... I know some more places we can check for next time.
kkajapan! We did indeed have a great time. If you come into Tokyo and have time, definitely let me know - I'd love to compare 日本企業仕事経験 and I know there would be other tubers keen to join!
Hey, thanks for the encouragement! This vid was actually magic for me. Compared to my last few vids, there was hardly any editing involved and it was very improvised at the time. It was just the setting, the atmostphere, the conversation all just came out perfect. This is actually one of my favorite vids... Glad you enjoyed it.
Yep, I thought it was going to fall off and nearly panicked. As it turns out the guys at the next table were really cool people, they joined our little nomikai for a while!
Haha, dude, I think you are like me - either "on" or "dead"... Apologies, I realize I said it like you were the only guy talking when of course we all were, and having a pretty good time - we were in that restaurant for more than 4 hours and the time flew right by. Customary apologies for all the discussion of porn...
Hey man, thanks for the video response. Gotta give nichibeitrader credit for doing such a good job of getting round. I'll have to try getting down your way myself sometime...
Apparently there is - I found a Japanese wikipedia article I linked in the sidebar, that says it was officially from 1986 to 1991, which means I was in Japan for 2 weeks in Fukuoka during the bubble (in 1990). I always kind of thought of the end as 1995, which is when everything really fell apart - sales tax was introduced, the government collapsed, the Kobe earthquake, and then the Aum attacks all in a few months. I guess that was the start of the recession people say japan is still in.
I agree. The statistics point to 1991, but the Japanese were still spending money excessively through the mid 90s on the assumption that the realestate and stock market downturn would only be temporary.
My friend and I tried to go to Juliana Tokyo but the line to get in was too long.
The crazy thing that day was, when we got off the subway and walked out onto the street, three japanese girls came running up to us and said "Hi". It was kind of strange so we said "hi" back to them and went on our way, but they kept following us until they gave up and went back to the subway exit to wait for someone else. Crazy days eh.
Haha, I had an episode like that when I first visited Tokyo in 1995. If you were here and had the chance to party during the bubble, you automatically go into my "book of legends"!
I actually turned to Charlie the moment he said that and told him "dude, if that isn't an outro to this vid, I don't know what is"... Sam is a one liner machine...
i've been also curious what it would be in tokyo during 1987~1992. do you know the night club named ジュリアナ東京 opened in 1991 which is one of the remarkable symbols of バブル時代? all of my friends get shocked when i say my favourite japanese band is チェッカーズ. my favourite 洋楽? 'true'(spandau ballet) haha. oh i should've been born 15 years earlier
Haha mate!!! I was at an 80s karaoke party the other night and Checkers was the theme of the moment - crazy that you even know about those guys! I'm a big Fumiya fan, he has some great tunes for winning karaoke battles... Julianas as well, classic! Last I heard, that place was still running as Venus Tokyo - I even DJed a party there once... That's a different story♪

Did the camera almost tip off the table during the beginning of this video, b/c the camera jerked to the left and everyone was like Whooah!!!?

The bubble days would have been interesting. When is the bubble said to have ended? Is there kind of an official time frame?

good to see you guys getting together talking about the 80's. I was still living in Japan then. それにしても日本語ペラペラやな〜!
btw, the reaction in the beginning when the guy almost knocked the camera over, yeah priceless lol. Made me laugh my ass off!
