A Weimaraner Life

I almost lost Iko Iko when he leapt into the river at Yachats, Oregon in January - off a 6 foot sandbank - and 30 yards of swift current from the open sea. He was 10 weeks old. You don't have to teach a Weimeraner to swim - they're water dogs. And clowns. I'd have another in a heartbeat, but they looks so much like deer that I'm afraid it'd be shot here in the country.

@sarahelizabethasher I'm a new owner/rescue actually, and never knew how smart they were!

After owning Dobies and thinking they were the smartest breed, I'm now convinced Weims have them beat by quite a margin; they're smart in an almost cat like way and extremely aware of their strength.

They're very gentle when taking treats and this one is a lover boy; never before have I allowed a dog to sleep in my bed, but he's so sweet, silky and almost hypoallergenic! ;D)

Amazed that Oscar likes the water... our 3 yr old, Lexie, has no interest in getting in the water. She'll tolerate being pulled into the pull (which we did to make sure she knew how to get it if she ever fell in) but would just as soon NOT be in the water. Unless it is the hose after a walk on a hot day of course.

Got a 9 month old and she is the smartest dog I have seen. She is smarter than my dads german shepherd, except 100 times more energetic. They are quite amazing dogs and have such great characters

I think that weims are the greatest breed of all dogs.. we have a now 4 year old weimaraner out of the animal shelter and it is one increadible dog. He's the best thing that ever came into our life!

my weim's tail isnt like that cuz the breeder we got it form didnt cut it off :) he's a very sweet dog only half a year old and hes 90 lbs!! but hes more on the small side of a weim most grom up to be even bigger!

same here, and we have a boat and 10 acres on lake texoma, so he has no choice but to like it sadly, he just stands there for 4 hours in water 1 foot deep, shivering and whining!

my dog did that all the time when we lived in florida, because there was 3 ponds within throwing distance from our apartment, and there was ducks and geese, etc., so he would always drag me til i let him go then he would chase them to the edge of the water then trott back to me because he was scared of the water.

@VUKIMEN sometimes if you leave em to it, they overcome there fear of water. my wirmrana used to hate water, but yesterday she was playing in the sea, she was going realy deep and just standing there. bath time today tho coz the sea water is making her coat faal out :( soo we gonna bath her n see if it helps lol ohh i doo aps adore her :))))))))

my dog was also scared. one time we went camping and we were calling him into the water. he would just stand by the water. our friends dog actually forced our dog to go into the water by barking at it. it was amazing.

my 2 year old weimaraner is the same , he can't go in the water because of his previous health problem ,which would be hearing problem, so you have to cover his ears when you are giving him a bath.All in all my weimaraner rocks.
