Hi everyone. Check out my new video, ‘Eighties Christmas Timeline’! It’s me playing a medley of Eighties Christmas songs on Keyboards. This song is in there!
Linda's version made me really love this song. After this I searched other versions like Johnny Mathis and found I liked them very much also. Thanks so much for posting this beautiful video.
I saw Linda record this, live, with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra, at the Universal Amphitheatre in the mid 1980s. It was literally breath-taking. The press had snubbed her as "not up" to Nelson Riddle's orchestra, which backed up everybody who was anybody in music at the time (Sinatra, Streisand, Fitzgerald et al). It was stunning. She lifted the roof off the theatre.
@2009vampiregirl I hope you have a good therapist and i wish the best of luck to you.I believe you will find your star, you may already have them all around you!
@yasheeki Hi! Personally, 'Over the Rainbow' makes me sad. It seems sort of resigned to the fact that she CAN'T get over the rainbow, whereas this song feels hopeful to me. I love both songs, though.
holy shit iv known about her taken little notice over the years and started listening to her cos of the duets with aaron neville etc.. and i'm still blown away with her voice its fukn perfect, man white girls can bloody sing alright, not just whitney houston etc.. my top women singers r whitney, linda, celine dion, eva cassidy all i think r equally beautiful and perfect.
@040181991 I feel exactly the same way! In fact, my older brother gave me the 45 record of Jiminy Cricket singing this song as a Christmas gift when I was knee-high to a grasshopper ... or to a cricket! :-) I wore that record out!
well, what do you want ? a full-throated female voice promising you the world...what c ould be better ? and a great melody to boot...grab it ! take it ! embrace it ! it may be your last chance...and, then again..maybe...not...
@snicky58 Karen you are so lovely, thank you so much to wish me and all the people my wishes com true and you know what<' they´ll come I´´m pretty sure and yours too.
I believe this is the definitive version of When You Wish Upon A Star. And, ladies and gentlemen, not a loud electric guitar or annoying drum within earshot. Composers nowadays can't write beautiful music and what is even worse, the ugly music they do write becomes popular. This is the epitome of the phrase, "...defining deviancy down..."
Isn't the first 45 seconds or so disney's theme. You know, like in the Walt Disney movies, in the beginning, at the castle scene, an instrumental plays of this song?
Ew. I like the original way better. the one sung by Cliff Edwards. 0:28-0:40 That was a frightening Crescendo. Actually, theres another one at 1:00 and probably more. Seriously, It was all peacefull until she started crescendo-ing (or as i call it- yelling). Ugh
Who was it that said her voice is the closest anyone has come to being a musical instrument ? She can do anything with those cords,,,man she is the best.
The world needs more music like this! I think that we've forgotten how to write like this now and it's a great shame. Thanks for posting this. I've always loved Nelson Riddle's arranging and Linda does a superb job of this track.
@Andyfirthjazz I agree as well. But the songs authors deserve most of the credit. How brilliantly could it be arranged and performed if it didn't exist.
What a lovely video! I would dedicate this song to all the dreamers (including myself) to go for your dreams! You never know, you may get what your heart truly wants. :)
@sailormoon9000, thank you so much! And I hope you (and everyone!) will get what you truly want ... "If your heart is in your dream / No request is too extreme"! :-)
Thanks very much for this! Linda can do this one like many singers don't! From soft beginnings her phrases swell to an unbelievable crescendo, and right on perfect key. Excellent vibrato control with generous application. What a lovely performance.
I couldn't agree more on all your points about Linda. What an enormous talent. I sang some when I was young, and she was my absolute female vocalist idol!
yokis12345, I agree! I saw the movie Pinocchio when I was very, very young, and I just LOVED this song. I think the happiest that I have ever been about getting a gift was when my older brother gave me a 45 record (anyone remember those??) for Christmas of Jiminy Cricket's version from the movie. Wish I still had that little record! I get choked up every time I watch Pinocchio with my daughter and he sings this song. It's just so beautiful and so sweet.
When I first heard this, Nelson was an old guy from the past and Linda was a young, but well established girl on the scene. And I was in my early 20s. Now, Nelson is gone. Linda is 63. And I'm 47. Where did all the time go?
The music, of course, is still young and fresh. Timeless...
i think this the the best version of this song, except the original....in my opinion,it's one of the best songs ever made....they don't make this kind of music these days:(
@terente2gr8 I completely agree I have never heard a better version than this one. Quite frankly I don't see how anyone could ever outdo Linda. She has a RARE warmth accompanied by emotion and dynamic power. This is what magic is made of.
I love this song! My maternal grandfather's uncle wrote the music. My mom (a Harline) remember once when she was a child uncle Leigh came to one of their family reunions and played the piano for everybody,

I first heard Linda sing this on the Tonight Show, and it totally blew me away. I always tear up when I hear it. The best Disney song ever. "It's a small world after all" gets way more recognition than it deserves.
Sarahsdad, I wonder if I saw that same show. I remember that the first time I heard Linda sing this was on a TV show also, but I can't remember which one.
