  • Not upon the Stardusts, But upon the REAL TRUE STAR.

    Thank you for your posting!

  • @yohanessunaryo Thank you so much. I really appreciate the compliment, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. -- Karen

  • Epic !!

  • this is our show song love it

  • Linda's version made me really love this song. After this I searched other versions like Johnny Mathis and found I liked them very much also. Thanks so much for posting this beautiful video.

  • I saw Linda record this, live, with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra, at the Universal Amphitheatre in the mid 1980s. It was literally breath-taking. The press had snubbed her as "not up" to Nelson Riddle's orchestra, which backed up everybody who was anybody in music at the time (Sinatra, Streisand, Fitzgerald et al). It was stunning. She lifted the roof off the theatre.

  • thank you so much for this video.

  • @cafra1707 You're so thoughtful to say that. Thank you.

  • just lovely! when you hear her voice....you just dream endlessly.

  • @cafra1707 I think you expressed that beautifully -- "you just dream endlessly." I know her voice has that effect on me!

  • I love this song. It gives me the feeling that hope is somewhere there.

As I translate it too my own situation... maybe there's something that gets me out of the wheelchair, with no pain.

Maybe I can find my star someday. I still believe wonders can happen. Deep inside I'm still the kid I was :-)

  • @2009vampiregirl Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. What you wrote really touched me.

  • @2009vampiregirl I hope you have a good therapist and i wish the best of luck to you.I believe you will find your star, you may already have them all around you!

  • WOW ~ THANK YOU :)

  • you have a lovely voice!

  • Which do you like better, this lyrics or Judy Garland 'Over The Rainbow'?

  • @yasheeki Hi! Personally, 'Over the Rainbow' makes me sad. It seems sort of resigned to the fact that she CAN'T get over the rainbow, whereas this song feels hopeful to me. I love both songs, though.

  • This is the definitve verson of "When You Wish Upon A Star." It cannot be performed any better.

  • Linda is the best!

  • Beautiful video, snicky58!

  • When you wish upon a star

  • holy shit iv known about her taken little notice over the years and started listening to her cos of the duets with aaron neville etc.. and i'm still blown away with her voice its fukn perfect, man white girls can bloody sing alright, not just whitney houston etc.. my top women singers r whitney, linda, celine dion, eva cassidy all i think r equally beautiful and perfect.

  • Thank you for posting this - the video is terrific.

  • @TTTrixie Thank you so much for the nice compliment!

  • love this song, gives me hope. also makes me feel like a young kid again, when I truly believed all was possible.

  • @040181991 I feel exactly the same way! In fact, my older brother gave me the 45 record of Jiminy Cricket singing this song as a Christmas gift when I was knee-high to a grasshopper ... or to a cricket! :-) I wore that record out!

  • well, what do you want ? a full-throated female voice promising you the world...what c ould be better ? and a great melody to boot...grab it ! take it ! embrace it ! it may be your last chance...and, then again..maybe...not...

  • linda is awsome,beautiful voice

  • What a lovely performance by a real "torch singer." My heart melts like butter and tears flow down my cheeks.

  • EVERY ONE OF US WE HAVE WISHES EVERYTIME, MY WISH IS TO CATCH A STAR!!!

    KARYNA KLINCKWORT

  • @karyklinckwort Hi Karyna. Thank you for leaving a comment. I hope that all your wishes come true, including catching a star. :-)

I love your name -- it's almost like mine (Karen)! Happy New Year to you and your family, and to everyone else who reads this.

    Karen Hunter

  • @snicky58 Karen you are so lovely, thank you so much to wish me and all the people my wishes com true and you know what<' they´ll come I´´m pretty sure and yours too.

    Lovely name your´s.

    Your friend Karyna Klinckwort

  • Mariah Carey Should've recorded a version, And made it sound like Christmas!

  • more on fantasies and i believe in this!

  • I believe this is the definitive version of When You Wish Upon A Star. And, ladies and gentlemen, not a loud electric guitar or annoying drum within earshot. Composers nowadays can't write beautiful music and what is even worse, the ugly music they do write becomes popular. This is the epitome of the phrase, "...defining deviancy down..."

  • Absolutely and beyond a doubt a stellar performance.

  • Nicely done. Thanks for sharing.

  • jingle bells xx

  • Beautiful song... she sings with passion and love.

  • how sweet of u,i beat she loved it

  • Sings well, but nowhere even close to the original oldie :)

  • Isn't the first 45 seconds or so disney's theme. You know, like in the Walt Disney movies, in the beginning, at the castle scene, an instrumental plays of this song?

  • Beautiful! I've been a Linda Ronstadt fan all my life! Simply awesome! Wish Upon a Star everyone....

  • Without a doubt, the benchmark female performance for this song. This is how it's done.

  • This is the definitive version of this song.

  • ! dream on friends.

  • Ew. I like the original way better. the one sung by Cliff Edwards. 0:28-0:40 That was a frightening Crescendo. Actually, theres another one at 1:00 and probably more. Seriously, It was all peacefull until she started crescendo-ing (or as i call it- yelling). Ugh

  • i love this song version!!

  • Who was it that said her voice is the closest anyone has come to being a musical instrument ? She can do anything with those cords,,,man she is the best.

  • The world needs more music like this! I think that we've forgotten how to write like this now and it's a great shame. Thanks for posting this. I've always loved Nelson Riddle's arranging and Linda does a superb job of this track.

  • @Andyfirthjazz , I couldn't agree with you more, on all points. Thank you for commenting.

  • @Andyfirthjazz I agree as well. But the songs authors deserve most of the credit. How brilliantly could it be arranged and performed if it didn't exist.

    Music by Leigh Harline

    Lyrics by Ned Washington

  • great!!!! have never listened to Linda before, but love this song... and Linda lifts it up! thanx for postlng :-)

  • does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this?

  • What a lovely video! I would dedicate this song to all the dreamers (including myself) to go for your dreams! You never know, you may get what your heart truly wants. :)

  • @sailormoon9000, thank you so much! And I hope you (and everyone!) will get what you truly want ... "If your heart is in your dream / No request is too extreme"! :-)

  • Sung by Linda in 1985. Very nice version.

  • @nancyfloressantos ....nice too!...soothing... i still favor Linda Scott's upbeat tempo though..

  • @CeeCeeable, I will have to check that out. I feel ignorant now, but I'm not familiar with Linda Scott!

  • Thanks very much for this! Linda can do this one like many singers don't! From soft beginnings her phrases swell to an unbelievable crescendo, and right on perfect key. Excellent vibrato control with generous application. What a lovely performance.

  • I couldn't agree more on all your points about Linda. What an enormous talent. I sang some when I was young, and she was my absolute female vocalist idol!

  • this is the best version. great job Linda!

  • volume soooooo looooow =/

  • nah you cant beat jimminy criquet. hes the best version of this song

  • yokis12345, I agree! I saw the movie Pinocchio when I was very, very young, and I just LOVED this song. I think the happiest that I have ever been about getting a gift was when my older brother gave me a 45 record (anyone remember those??) for Christmas of Jiminy Cricket's version from the movie. Wish I still had that little record! I get choked up every time I watch Pinocchio with my daughter and he sings this song. It's just so beautiful and so sweet.

    Thanks for commenting!

  • When I first heard this, Nelson was an old guy from the past and Linda was a young, but well established girl on the scene. And I was in my early 20s. Now, Nelson is gone. Linda is 63. And I'm 47. Where did all the time go?

The music, of course, is still young and fresh. Timeless...

  • Linda Ronstadt with Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra. Really classy!

  • i think this the the best version of this song, except the original....in my opinion,it's one of the best songs ever made....they don't make this kind of music these days:(

  • @terente2gr8 I completely agree I have never heard a better version than this one. Quite frankly I don't see how anyone could ever outdo Linda. She has a RARE warmth accompanied by emotion and dynamic power. This is what magic is made of.

  • I LOVE IT! GREAT JOB! What a wonderful gift for a child!! :-)

  • @nodlon20 Thank you so much!

  • Magic song!

  • beautiful

  • can i hear a wat wat!!

  • cute

  • lets hear britney spears or madonna try this.

  • beautiful voice!!

    i love this song!!

  • beautiful music. thanks for the upload!

  • Hey, let's not forget Nelson's contribution. Although those last two notes are sublime

  • sometimes this song makes me want to cry but i love it so much man ^-^

  • This is one of my most favorite songs..........."anything your heart desires will come to you..............". Thanks for sharing.

  • Such a pure note . Jingles yer man veggies..

  • great song but I like the televised version I put up here where she looks like she's singing in the sky

  • Goosepumps...............absolutely fab.thanks for posting.

  • I love this song! My maternal grandfather's uncle wrote the music. My mom (a Harline) remember once when she was a child uncle Leigh came to one of their family reunions and played the piano for everybody,

  • song makes me cry and gives me some hope for the dreams i thought impossible for me to reach and ever have.

  • I wrote several people at Disney about this Ronstadt music video and never received the courtesy of a response. I hope someone has it somewhere and posts it on U-Tube someday. It is fantastic.

    Jim K.

  • I no longer have the video of Linda Ronstadt singing this song. What a loss! I have never seen it since. It has to be in some corporate vault somewhere. I distinctly remember a cassical ballerina who did a dance in the middle of the song. I am pretty sure Disney did the video as I believe I recorded it off of the Disney channel. I am going to write Disney and see if they will post it if they still have it.

    JIm Koenig

  • I hope you are successful. I have it on hanging on the end of a VHS tape somewhere. It is a wonderful video. I was hoping to find it when I came across this version.

    Jim Arther

  • Jim, that video sounds so lovely. You say you taped it on a VHS tape -- do you still have that tape? I don't know how to do this myself, but there's supposedly an easy way to record your VHS stuff to your computer hard drive, thus ending up with a digital copy you'd be able to post. Maybe someone you know could do it? Just an idea.

    Karen

  • The recording video was done around 1987-1992. It featured a ballerina who danced to Linda Ronstadt's singing. I am certain the ballerina was a famous dancer. It was a Disney production, as I taped it off of the Disney Channel on a VHS tape which has since been rendered obsolete.

I hope someone can find this video and post it here. It is truly a treat to watch.

    JIm Koenig

  • There is an original video of Linda Ronstadt singing this song. I think it was made by Disney Studios. It is simply fantastic. It features a ballerina dancing, as well as close-ups of Linda Ronstadt singing. If anyone has this, please post it!

    Jim K.

  • Hi Jim. That video sounds wonderful. I hope someone does have it and will post it! Isn't this the loveliest song? It sometimes actually brings tears to my eyes.

  • Hi Jim. Linda is one classy singer.

    I love this song especially.

I would like to see the original.

    I will check some sources.

  • Yes, you're right about Johnny Carson -- and the more I think about it, the more I suspect that it was Letterman's show that I saw it on.

  • I first heard Linda sing this on the Tonight Show, and it totally blew me away. I always tear up when I hear it. The best Disney song ever. "It's a small world after all" gets way more recognition than it deserves.

  • Sarahsdad, I wonder if I saw that same show. I remember that the first time I heard Linda sing this was on a TV show also, but I can't remember which one. When you saw her sing it on the Tonight Show, do you remember if she was lowered down from above, sitting on a crescent moon? When I was only about four years old, my most cherished possession was a 45 record (remember those, anyone? ;-)) of Jiminy Cricket singing When You Wish Upon a Star, given to me by my big brother for Christmas.

  • It was during the Johnny Carson era, and he seldom went for a visual grabber like that for a musician. I think she just sang from the center of the main stage. I think I saw the performance you mention, but I don't remember the show.

  • I've heard this version of this song on radio a few times, and always something happens that I miss who sings it. I've been searching everywhere for 3 hours now, and I cried as soon as I heard the first note she sang. Thanks for putting this us, and thanks to Linda for singing it!

  • I love this thank you for finding it.

  • Thanks so much, I appreciate it.

  • I think these visuals are as lovely as Linda's song, and that is saying something! Very nice video!

  • You are too sweet, Nancy! Hey, I have been meaning to write you a long e-mail for awhile now -- I promise I'll get to it soon! We have a LOT in common, and I really appreciate your positive comments. I'm really new at this, and you have helped give me a little confidence -- thank you!
