Awww, I LOVE this!! I cried again this time as I listened to it! It never ever gets old. It is so anointed with Keith Green having written it and Matthew Ward singing it (and Annie's work on it). Three of the most anointed musicians in the world! The words go so deep into your soul and I can understand how it brought you to salvation. How awesome!! I have most of the 2nd Chapter of Acts music, plus Keith Green, and it is all just as amazing as this song!!
As a child I was abandoned into a convent by my family. The experience left an indelible impression. One thing we were taught in the convent, were the seven sayings of Christ on the cross. The one that touched me was, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me." which is perfectly reflected in this song. Upon hearing it, my memory went back to that dreadful, empty day in my life, and I wept that Christ had mentioned it for me to His Father.
It might be urban legend but I remember years ago when I first heard this that it was actually written by Keith Green and that Matthew Ward found the lyrics and recorded it.
The rumour is that Keith Green gave it to Annie Herring on a cassette tape. It was in an unfinished state. After Keith Green was killed in his plane accident, she pulled it out of the pile and did some work on it, and so we have this song in it's finished state. And what a song!.
Regardless of how it came into being, it played a very large part in my comintg to faith in Christ. It still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.
You did a great job and I love your story of salvation. There are some pictures in this video that I would love to have - specifically, the one with Jesus on His face in the garden and the ones of the guy with the hammer. I wonder if there is some way you could send them to me or tell me where I can find them?
@chezcollins Thank you very much. I am blessed that you like my story. I probably still have all these pictures on my hard drive somewhere. If I can find them, send me your e-mail addy and I will get them to you. You could, of course, lift them off this video with a software program such as Super Screen Capture. May God bless you Richly. :-)
Just beautiful!! I've been looking for this song for over 25 years. I cannot believe I've found the 2nd Chapter of Acts...after all these many years. My my...Does anyone know if they are still singing? Can I still obtain this CD?
@tolbertbynum Yes, you can still get this CD. I would try Amazon and see if they have it. If not, try looking in their second hand stores. May God bless you richly.
@tolbertbynum Anne is still singing solo work and so is Matthew. I saw them a LONG time ago on their last tour! They are such icons in the Contempory Christian music! I still love listening to them1
@1of650 Thank you for your information. Have you ever heard Matthew Ward singing "How Great Thou Art"? It is, indeed, a command performance. I will see if it is on YouTube - if not, I will make a video and upload it myself. (^_^)
Yes, you an still get this CD. It can be downloaded from iTunes and Amazon. However, the actual CD is still available. If you cannot purchase it from a mainstream online store such as Amazon, you should be able to get it from one of the "used item" dealers that can be found on Amazon. I brought my CD with me from South Africa. I have had it for years. I had it on vinyl before I got it on CD. It is a classic in the Contemporary Christian Music arena.
@tolbertbynum They stopped singing together in 1988, because they felt God had called them to new things. Both Annie and Matthew still travel and sing independently. They both have their own websites where you can order their music. We went to Matthew's Christmas concert last year and it was awesome!!
A friend of mine used to sing this for concerts and I accompanied him on piano. He died at the age of 33 from cancer, leaving a wife and 3 young children. He loved the Lord, and 2nd Chapter music. Thanks for the post. I haven't heard this in 15 years.
One of my best favorite songs, I was looking for this for a long time, for me the Gospel , Jesus I dont know How to describe you, you are my lord and savour. Thank you Jesus always for saving and making me you child.
@tanderson1015 I tell you what - I am amazed at the views this old song is getting lately. Yes, Matthew Ward has a beautiful voice and it carries the message very well indeed.
When you watch my music videos, you will always see that I feature the cover of the CD or the album at the beginning of the video. This particular CD is called "Singer Sower". I am glad you enjoyed it. Did you read the "more info" section? This song was instrumental in my coming to faith in Christ in 1987. It is pure Gospel.
This is one of my favorites songs by my favorite Christian group! They were the first Christian group I had ever heard as a new Christian back in 1980.
In the sidebar I wrote a bit of the history of the part this song played in my coming to Christ. I did not know that the 2nd Chapter of Acts had been largely repsonsible for bringing modern Christian music to the world until a few years ago, when I met another person who came ot Christ as a result of this song. I did radio work as an announcer in Namibia for 10 years and I featured this group on numerous ocassions.
