While I'm all 4 the environment, love the sustainable homes & so on, I see how on these videos they keep talking about how it would help the planet & all the people in it, I can't help to also see that all of these is not cheap or affordable, folks, these stuff is NOT for the poor in Somalia or in villages where they don't have clean water, that water machine right there, cost $2500.00 & produces 18GL a day, a house in Somalia cost average $500.00 & they can't afford one,so do the math folks!
@SantosRegal Obviously this house isn't built for the poor. I imagine the people who built this one are quite wealthy. However, scaled down & fully sustainable Earthships have been built in Haiti using the same principles and techniques for $2500 total. The buildings harvest rainwater for free to supply drinking water, provide much more sanitary conditions, and basic solar electricity. $2500. Granted still a lot of money in the 3rd world, but the technology IS scaleable. /watch?v=OgCbvsuQaNw
Your presenting this home to President Bush?? You fool! You do of course realize that Bush played a key role in the events of September 11, 2001. At least I hope you do by now. If you don't, then you are nothing more than an insult to the whole Earthship concept!

3rd world countries? Take a trip to many of the Indian reservations here in the United States and you'll see 3rd world living conditions.Makes sense to fix things in this country FIRST before trying to fix problems in foreign countries. There's much to be done here in the USA.
This seems an unachievable goal for the non-rich, marginalised, incapacitated etc - could we end up having a two tiered eco-haves & eco-have nots; an elite class who have healthy eco lives with a subclass who have to live dirty lives? Just a thought...
It still comes down to how much money you have or don't have.....land and building materials and all the rest. Maybe in Mexico the Autho's aren't out to get their pound of flesh for everything you are trying to do to get out of entrenched and enforced dependency, this is unavailable to those of low economic status, is it not? I would love to live in an environment like that, i don't care what it looks like it looks healthy to me.
Beautiful. love the closed loop systems. looks like a Very expensive build. not exactly for the masses, but the biological system is very good. Same princles and systems applied to smaller and cheaper, and still "organic" is the direction we need to go. I would love to see more information on the biological and thermal systems for better understanding. This must be clarified fully for ease of application by anyone. No comment on the hydroen:) Thanks much for the video
I wondering about the hay bales in the walls. How do you keep the mice from getting into them? Also how do you prevent the bales from growing any mold?
I think the house is great and the concepts are awesome. It's a little gaudy for me, but different strokes. The only thing I didn't like was the guy trying to suck up to Bush. He lost points with that IMO. Bush doesn't give a damn about the US and it's citizens having sustainable energy houses when his family capitalizes on the oil industry and sends our troops to die for oil and other shady reasons. Other than that, the house is a job well done.
How can you compare dying from flies and dying from aids....I was unaware that Aids was because of basic sanitation. You learn something new everday.....
You can get Aids from unsterilised utensils if they contact an open sore on your skin. It's not easy, but even in America, there was a 19 year old girl about 18 years ago who got aids from a dental patient who was treated by the same dentist just before her.
So what about people that live far north like New Hampshire? Do we get something to sustain us or do we have to freeze? Not everybody lives in a warm climate. Serious question.
Taos is colder than New Hampshire. Think again about what is described. The house is ringed by a blackwater rainforest, insulated by tripple panes, that never gets below 39 degrees F. Inside this ring is a greywater rainforest that never gets below the low 60s. The living area is inside this and is always comfortable, regardless of the outside temperature. I have visited Angels Nest in the winter when the temperatures were in the teens. It works.
its a egg-shape bottle being used to create a vortex, in order to aerate/oxygenate the water and further "enliven" it. you can think of it like this: a human walks straight like a robot (totally straight, no swing) - then, a human walks freeform and freely, with a swing.
water seeks to swirl and move in lemniscates, water pipes force it with high pressure to be completely pulverized and go straight. seen a straight natural river, ever? ;)
its totally mesmerizing... i hear theres a big one in the san francisco exploratorium, but that its a acryl seethrough tube but you still see the huge vortex. theres also a water bar in gatwick airport in the u.k. where they have 3 tubes with vortices filling it up and then them emptying it too.. this kinda stuff never gets old, especially if its a harmonic vortex (not spluttering/unstable). the best ive seen resembles dna strands..
I would be totally hypnotized! Things like that fascinate me :) I like the term "harmonic vortex". I'll have to find some excuse to use that one ::smirk::
Im thinking of building an off grid house with straw bales but i can see i got alot to learn about rainforest plants. i have no idea about blackwater and greywater. This place is the exception to standard off grid homes. This set up must have cost alot of money. That is something that the majority of the population doesnt have.
Wrong. Angels Nest has an electrolyzer, a hydrogen fueling station, hydrogen storage, a fuel cell, a room full of 2 volt batteries, solar cells, wind turbines, inverters, biofuel generators, and very sophisticated water recycling and food production. It is a tour-de-force of advanced sustainable energy.
yeah i was completely bowled over by the water vortex purification + aeration processes, i had no idea the earthship-related people had moved towards this. see that "twin water vortex system" on youtube f.ex., i thought this was something that was going to need to be "told" to earthship biotecture, but maybe i was just completely wrong.
thats how the idea is sold to people who aren't labcoat wearing technicians. if this was a 10minute tirade about hydroxy and solar panels, people would fall asleep already. if you show them it looks nifty and you'd wanna live in it, and mention that the tech is wicked great, they'll be more prone to move towards it.
An absolutely beautiful house and a remarkable achievement - well done! This is how EVERYBODY should live! Look at the savings to the environment, and also look at how much money you would save on electricity, gas and petrol, over the life of the house!
Absolutely amazing. I would love to transform my house into a more sustainable home. I guess I can start by installing a solar power panel on my roof. =)
Thats the most beautiful house Ive ever seen, I would love to build one in like it in the uk and your so right about it being homeland security, when natural gas runs out if we dont change the way we build homes we are going to have a lot of frozen old people.
I love the idea of building and living in my own Earthship. I'm in the process of convincing my partner that buying that Georgan town house on the sea-front is not a good idea. Should not take too much see'ing as though I'm the one paying for it all lol.

I will admit that Michael Reynolds has come up with some good solutions to the
energy crisis and depleted resources. However, very few people could afford the
cost of an Earthship. After reviewing the video's and other information online, the cost
of one of these homes is not affordable for poor people & suited for rich people.

Whats the cost? is it economically viable(besides saving on utilities)? How much does a person have to pay to get one of those homes constructed?
I hate to talk of such matters, but in our society its the only way it has a chance to catch on.
