So perhaps along the way back to their studios Tristar/Roland forgot they were making a Godzilla film and instead made something else and forgot to remove the Godzilla label.
If Toho hadn't said "NO" to the original 1994 concept, we never would have gotten another series of Godzilla movies. The '98 remake caused Toho to make the Millennium series as a means of plugging up the holes that were made as a result.
Toho approved the 1994 Script with the Gryphon, They did not approve them using King Ghidorah an wanted to much money for the right's for the character. More then they paid for Godzilla even.
Then Sony got pissed about the Original 150$ million budget, they ordered re-writes an the Original director walked, Then Emmerich an Devlin changed the design an entire script an said (This or we walk)
Toho ONLY agreed to this 2 finally get the project started after countless delays
I think that everybody is thinking that this is the trailer for the 1998 American Godzilla film. In the 90s some American company was actually going to make a movie called "Godzilla vs the Gryphon." They movie even had sets built but I think budgeting shit occurred and the project was cancelled
@BloodyPooProductions - That's true. I remember reading a script for "Godzilla vs the Gryphon" that ended up never being used. So instead 4 years later we got the garbage heap known as Zilla-98.
Not as ashamed as i am when i actually people call it ''Godzilla'' it sucked an was a disgrace to the entire Godzilla franchise.
Thankfully Legendary Pictures an Warner Bro's are working WITH Toho to Reboot the American Godzilla Franchise an use the Real Japanese Godzilla with this atomic breath an confirmed to fight other monsters.
Fuck Tri-Star;s movie.. they nearly killed Godzilla for Western Audience's an should never be considered a real Godzilla movie by anyone
@multiversalpictures Flawed statement. Just because we would run from hornets, doesn't mean an indestructible dinosaur (who can't even be affected by military weapons) would run from jets. The 98 godzilla movie isn't bad by itself. But it shouldn't be called Godzilla. Like I said, if you don't take it as Godzilla, it's a good movie.
This shit woulda been fucking awesome. Not that dumbass 1998 piece of crap, i mean i guess if i just look at it as another monster movie, it ain't TOO bad...but his name's Godzilla...which is where it really fucked up.
@JustinThoj the 1998 godzilla was great. you just dont see it that way. and i am not afraid to say it was great. you can ridicule me but i have my opinion. i liked all godzilla movies especially 1954 godzilla,
@multiversalpictures I ain't gonna hate on you for liking the movie ahahaha. Like i said, as a monste rmovie itself it's not too bad. But because it's suppose to be Godzilla is why it's so shitty.
@multiversalpictures - I agree, because I like all Godzilla movies too. Unfortunately, Godzilla was never in the 1998 GINO film. But it was nice film as a sci-fi comedy.
Stan Winston was already doing designs on this when the movie was cancled. Even with stop motion and miniatures, it would have been MUCH better than Godzilla 98.
Holy crap, I remember this being at the end of my bootleg for Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1993). Ahh, memories. Now if only this version had seen the light of day..
Google Stan Winstons Godzilla. You'll see what the original Godzilla was supposed to look like. I loved the design and got really pissed that they scrapped the idea.
Type in GODZILLA '94 as a word search, then go to the American Kaiju listing (should be at top) to read the graphic novel based on the screenplay written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. TriStar blew it big time back then for the canceling '94 DeBont Production of GODZILLA.
Still, it's better than the crappy one we got in 1998. In this version Godzilla would have looked like his old self, had atomic breath, and would have fought another monster. And he didn't lay eggs or get pwned by missles
Yeah, the G'94 script that's cirulating on the internet right now is far from perfect, but it probably would have gone through a number of rewrites if the script hadn't given it the axe. Even if it hadn't, I still would have prefered it to Godzilla 98.
Oh what could have been of Godzilla in America if Sony Tristar cared about him? Well now it's all in the past and a new Godzilla's coming!

alright, pretend for a minute that the movie was totally original, did it entertain you?

the 98 godzilla was not a piece of crap. the just made him more animal like. if a bunch of angry hornets came at you you would run to right?

Tristar was smart for canning it, The Elliot/Rossio script had Godzilla as an ALIEN.

No, he wasn't an alien, he was still a radioactive dinosaur, one CREATED by aliens, but his origins where much closer to the original film.
Chet2013 3 years ago 17
also true. He would have looked much more like the Toho Godzilla also (albeit more dinosaur like)

I agree. I found several problems with the script>
1. The drama draged on
2. Godzilla needs more screen time
3. Needs more sfx and fight scenes
