Thin. Youtube-mono isn't its only problem. Do you know about ocremix? You should post this on their works in progress board, they're usually pretty helpful... if you can take the critique.
Yes I can, at every moment, thank you for your advice :)
I must say that I by myself am pretty satisfied with this mix. I never said this to be a professional one. It's more some kind of having fun making music, so just give it a chance ;)
Dunno what software you've got, what you're using, but this sounds like it could be a pretty good remix if you'd get it to sound less like general midi and... well, better. :P
Now, fact is that I stayed close to the original and gave myself less creative space... I watched another F-Zero RMX sounding completely different to the original. Now, I don't think it sounds like general midi, can't share that opinion. Really not ;) think that's a big difference. If you have concrete (!) suggestions what to change, let me know at every time. Also, I don't want to do house-like remixes. If you expect something like this (good) Red Canyon remix, that's not my goal ^^
Suggestions: You need more bass, could probably drop your bass by an octave. The crashes and hihats need to be louder, all other drums need some compression and EQ work, the flute softer, the guitar/harpsichord needs an EQ cut to its high range and some soft reverb, the brass samples need more punch, and the sustained notes need to change more in sound (an lfo moving the pitch a few cents on sustained notes might work).
That's what I suggest, after listening on youtube's high quality settings.
I agree with the bass... find it difficult to get the right octave sometimes, and my VST is not optimal. Either the bass is too heavy at low range, or has actually no low range... need to search a solution for that.
Usually EQ helps with that. Or layering two basses, one low and one with the higher frequencies needed to sound clear.
Let me repeat my suggestion to post this on ocremix' works-in-progress board, ask for advice on how to improve your production. Mention that it's "not for ocremix" or they'll judge it by their standards of interpretation/creativity.
As for the red canyon remix, are your talking about Eat Your Own Dust? You should comment on that vid, I know the remixer would appreciate it. :D
Layering is a good idea. Did that once with a guitar (added EQ), will try also with bass.
I'll think about posting it there. Will be fine if it's possible to say that it's not for them. Interpreting things into songs is not my preferred way of dealing with music, if you know what I mean. Remembers me too much of my german or music lessons at school :-D
Yes, it was Eat Your Own Dust. Going to hear that again.
If you want, also have a look at the other three songs I uploaded. Would be nice.
Their wip board isn't just for stuff intended for ocremix, there's a lot of newby stuff there too. People post to learn, not just to get help getting on ocr. Took me over year to get a remix accepted to ocr.
