  • Ugluk1000 has a good point. :) The way he talks is so gentle and not a care in the world. The way the world SHOULD be... :)

  • you should do another couple of these peter, they really are great.

  • I absolutely love your cooking videos, and I find that watching them is a great way to relax. I love the way you gentlely talk. Its hard to put a finger on exactly why, but I just know that in the modern era or quick wit, sarcasm and slang, theres just a nice warm feeling you get from talking properly :)

  • Thanks for sharing a meal that looks delicious... My mouth was watering at the end XP

  • I've never tried Oxtial, what does it taste like? Please don't say Chicken :D

  • Oxtails that are slow cooked taste like the most tenderest steak you could imagine. you should try it.

  • this man is a god among mortals.

  • I love oxtail, very nice flavour

  • Never had oxtail. Not even sure where to buy one here! Looks good, though!

Might find it at an Asian market... I'll have to take a look next time I go there.

  • nah nah. it's at your supermarket.....sometimes anyway...it's kinda like pigs feet....it's just cow tail dude. and im not an old timer. im 30 and ive seen it at supermarkets. ask the butcher in yours. theyll have it.

  • Hmmm screw Gordon Ramsey, You are way better!

  • That looked mighty good to me!

Now... get yourself a proper knife, please? That little bitty paring knife handle made my knuckles ache watching you cut those carrots!

  • mmmmm thank you for sharing you knowledge :)

  • Gosh, this so reminds me of my childhood. My Yorkshire born Grandmother did it the same. She did it in an oil stove....Lovely with fresh bread.

    Thanks for the memories.....

    Cheers from Canada

  • Why?

  • I get hungry just from watching this

  • Oh, I must add....I love your 'pig' cutting board!

  • I love oxtail stew. They are a little pricey here in Colorado though. Yet I always try to make what you are cooking up! Thanks! Great video!

  • That actually looks delicious! Mmmm... :D

  • You look extremely good for 81! especially in the facial area.. not saggy at all!! good guy :D

  • BSE, Bovine Spongiform Encepholopathy also know as Mad Cow Disease causes CJD, Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease in humans . . .we had a bit of a scare here in the U.S. five years or so ago when a cow or some cows were processed despite indications of possible BSE infection. I'd rather come to Britain and try your stew. (cough)

  • looks delicius,thx graet job!!!

  • Another cracker Peter. I feel you didn't along us long enough to seeeeeeee the finished meal :smiles: Anyway, I'm still hungry!

    Bye for now

  • Small child after the war - poverty times - in Germany... I remember oxtail 'SOUP' as a gourmet meal... lol (1950s)... But the meat has to be browned first I think... Both parents worked and father was home first, I remember he was cutting all veggies that 'big' and consequently I cut things now small and dainty. I remember it was a very 'brown' soup... and I did not like it, nor any other feet/snout/tail/eyes of animals cooked in those days...

  • I should add though: good for you to revive this simple meal, easy to cook inside an oven (Dutch skillet usually used then, or a pot like yours). 5* good thing for young people to learn and loose any fear of cooking 'stuff'. Cooked at about 375C (medium) you could do that... might be wrong... it's been a while since I was a housewife. All stews are great with added mushrooms. If potatoes peeled, of course, they are great 'baked' right along with the meal. +Paprika :)

  • okay, I should add for the young people, for a healthy one person meal (one person me only now), it is very healthy to take a bit of meat, like a cut of meat that is meant to be a small 'minute' steak... freeze it just a bit to cut easier into very small strips, brown in 'good' oil, take out, brown onions to golden (all small cut), same with carrots/cabbage/green and red pepper strips etc. (mushrooms) and then stew all with bits of stock, reduce liquid and over rice or mashed potatoes/yum!

  • would that overcook the steak?

  • I like overcooking steak... :)

  • YUM

  • wow peter that meal looked delicious! i might try making oxtail stew one day :) you certainly seem like a great cook!

  • What a charming video and such a delicious looking meal. I think people don't put as much care in their meals as you do. It reminds me of the delicious cabbage stew with meatballs that my grandmother can make so deliciously! :-)

  • peter youre incredible. havent seen so much talent and lovely ideas in a youtube channel so far.

  • That looks delicious, Peter! I'm going to try it!

  • aww darn it.. now i'm hungry! your meal looked soo delicious! D:

  • What fun! Enjoyed watching and will have to try it here in Washington state USA......

  • you are sick, sick, sick!!! Grow up!!!

  • yum lol

  • just when i was feeling anxious about what to make for tomorrow evening's dinner...peter saves the day once again!

on a different note, martha stewart had better watch her back with you being mr. popular!

  • looks delicious :P

  • aww you're lovely!

  • Oh that oxtail looks incredible.

  • Ups, you've dropped a piece of carrot there, Peter! Oh, you got it :)

    Wasn't it KJD?

  • cook the meat with some vinegar or wine and it will help dissolve the minerals in the bones and dissolve the cartilage. More healthy and tasty too. Oxtail meat is one of the most delicious "cuts' of beef, but takes a long time to braise. YUM.

  • your soo awesome!!

  • well..that looks a bit better than my brakfast...in fact. a lot better.

    thanks. gone one

  • It looks very good.

  • awesome video, i like these cooking videos

  • Wish I were sharing that meal with you!

  • gd on this man stil a youtube most peeps give up wen there older u rock

  • Didn't expect to see Peters Meat and two Veg :o

  • Dear Peter, Very nice dish you have there! i love the way you have huge chunks of meat, spuds and carrots. They just taste better in large chunks!

  • Never seen an Oxtail laid out like that!

  • Hmmm, looks good! I'm getting hungy! Great video! . . . .Bettina

  • you know one of my favorite things about you...is when you make comments like "things never taste the same...or maybe as we get older our taste buds diminish" how do you keep such a realistic view? Its very refreshing.

  • Looks great!

    More cooking videos please.

    :-)

  • I love your cooking segments!

  • CJD*

    great vid!

  • Love the ox tail, but I can't do spuds with skins on ? Love the vid mate !

  • I'm going to make a meat and vegetable stew today! Thank you for the idea, Peter.

  • I am a pro chef, it is a fab soup and makes great stew BUT Peter, it is actually kind of expensive now. I have no idea why exactly but it is more expensive to buy two oxtails, than say four chicken breasts.

  • peter you should do more cooking videos we younger guys can learn alot from you experanced guys:)

  • Great stuff

  • Thanks for including the bits of wisdom like "learning from mistakes" in there... You made a fine educational and entertaining video!

  • deader looks very good

  • I really enjoy these cooking videos.

  • Thank you for a bit of paradise. :)

  • Thank you for these, I love these videos! Now I am trying to get better at cooking for myself!

  • I adore you, you remind me of a peaceful time. Very calming watching this

  • ooh it looks very tasty, thankyou for sharing this recipe, i enjoyed the video!

  • I've had oxtail soup, but never really liked it to be honest. Too spoilt with my sirloin steaks and lamb chops! But yep, got to cut back on the food bills. I'm sure there are still some proper Butchers to be found amongst all the Tescos and Asdas around here to get some OxTail.

You're certainly proving you're capable of more than a 3 min microwave ready meal.

  • Love these videos, that looked so hearty.

  • "chop the carrots in an artistic way... there you go". LOL. You're the greatest Peter.

  • i was already hungry now im even hungrier :(

  • May I suggest 350F, 180C, gas mark 4 for 2 hours cooking time. Cuts of meat that tend to be tough need to be cooked longer, say 3 hours at 325F, 160C, gas mark 3. Or for us oldies, put it in the oven and nod off in your favorite chair. It should be done when you wake up.

  • I'm starving!

  • omg I LOVE OXTAIL!!!!!!!

  • mmmm, looks nice

  • YUM! :D

That looks mouth wateringly delicious. ^^

  • I like your cooking Videos i love to cook I got the love from my Mom & Grandfather who are really good cooks

  • ... i have that same measuring jug :)

  • So have I, and almost everyone else.

  • looks delicious and easy to make ill give it a try

  • Your meal looked very appitizing there Peter....The younger generation has no clue or idea on how to scrimp and make a meal such as that they are of the fast food and pre-packaged generation....I don`t know about the UK but it sure i the was of life here inthe U.S...

  • I think that's a bit harsh, Carballoca. I'm one of those from the younger generation and I enjoy cooking.

I have to admit most (all) of my friends eat pre-packaged foods mostly, but there are some from the younger generation who look after their health and eat properly.

It is getting worse here in the UK though with obesity rising due to poor lifestyle choices. I've tried to change my friends ways but they all like high calorie and fatty foods like burgers, chips or kebabs.

  • looks delicious Peter!

    good day 2 ya,

    XEM

  • ... i love you

  • Well done, I love watching these videos.

  • "...and chop the carrots in a very artistic way, there you go..." **HACK HACK HACK**

ROFL!! Oh Peter, how I adore your videos! I can always count on you for a smile, either from humor, nostalgia, or shared wisdom. Never leave us, dear friend. Please!

  • I would like to ask 2 questions Peter,if I may. Don't you use any herbs, salt or garlic to llavour the stew? These stocks are a bit bland for my own taste. The second one is to do with handling raw meat and wiping hands on the dishcloth. i don't wanna be part of the mad Health & Safety brigade but, are you not concerned about cross contamination? Sorry, i work in the food business and couldn't stop noticing. I apologize in advance for being so forward. It looks delicious anyway...

  • I have never had that! I have a corned beef on the stove right now.... too bad you don't live near me because I'd bring you a platter!

    {{{hugs}}}

  • Looks really good Peter! Never had Ox tail....or any tail for that matter.

  • you had me at hello but lost me at ox tail. we can still be friends... i will eat the veggies and you can eat the tail, steaks, chicken and so forth. together we will clean the plate.

  • Looks great, Peter :)

    More cooking on Youtube :)

  • You're a genius, Peter, that looks great. When I was an impoverished student we used to make a casserole with neck of lamb & that was pretty darned good, too. :]

  • lovely but why didnt you just put the potatoes in with the other vegetables ! lovely meal though...room for one more ? lol

  • Peter, I think you should make sushi.

I'm a student and I've just started making it, it's really healthy and cheap to make and I think you should give it a try :)

I'll send you my recipe if you want.

  • Your oxtail stew looks delicious! I enjoy your videos so much! Bless you sir!

  • Yummy! We have the same sort of measuring jug as you hehe.

  • May I suggest a small "crock pot?" I think they are easier to deal with during cooking and probably a little safer (removing from oven and all). Give it a try.

Results are just the same. take care

  • i dont reely like stew but that looks yummy! xD

  • so awesome watching you cook! looks tasty indeed!

  • Mmmm scrumdiddliumscious :- P I really fancy stew now.

    J x

  • Looks great Peter, a real dish from the past and would love to try it!

Would just like to say even though you aren't getting as many viewers as you once did your videos are as good as ever and you still bring the same unique point of view to Youtube as you always have done. Hope to see you again soon.

  • i love your cooking videos peter

  • WOW! YOU MADE A VEGETARIAN HUNGRY!

I LOVED THE FADE INTO THE POTATOES! (were those potatoes 'u-tubers', you know how long I have been waiting to say that??)

There is a woman on Youtube who started a depression era cooking series, I will send you the link. (economic depression, not mental.LOL!)

When I know you better, I will send you my "If This Doesn't Kill Rasputin, Nothing Will Stew."

    KEEP 'EM COMING!!

    BTW...

    B.S.E. ?????

Boy Scouts of the East End?

  • By the way its CJD Peter.

    Did you use Colmans packet?

This Meal I will have to make, never done Oxtail. I made minted lamb hot pot. Wonderful! Keep the old recipes coming.

By the way, I don't want to be disrepectful, but we follow your life as we all get older too but you never speak of your wife..Did she cook, we would like to know about her?

  • Suck my coxtail! I love you!

  • that looks delicious!!

  • Looks lovely Peter! I will certainly give it a go!

  • mmmmmm!!! yummy! im gonna make that one day

  • Yummy I would love to have some :)

  • Oxtail is delicious, indeed, recession or not :-) ... Carrots and onion: Excellent ... Unpeeled potatoes: My choice always, too.

Haute cuisine, Peter - and, mind you, not in means of those weird Guide Micheline questionabilities (that make the prices on menus shoot to the sky, and yet you can hardly see the dish on your plate!), but in means of a highly gratifying and yummy meal :-)!

  • Oooh lovely! Thank you Peter, I'll give it a try.

  • It looks great Peter!

  • hope u have a brilliant easter peter

and enjoy ur meal it looks lovely!

  • Bloody lovely.

  • Happy Easter! It looks yummy, but what goes in the saus? Or what kind of saus did you buy?

  • mmmm that looks delicious! I should give it ago!

You could show my grandfather a thing or two, he wont eat anything that his wife didn't make. But she passed away 15 years ago.

  • Great vid as always Peter. I don't see myself ever eating oxtail though. I hope you had a lovely Easter. Cheers from Aust'. :-)

  • Oh now that's a good old fashioned meal, very tasty and filling

    :-)

  • Did you brown the oxtail?

  • I used to love oxtail soup when I was a child...until I realised what it was :-)

I love your piggy chopping board, Peter! Hope you had a lovely easter.
