@REXXBAILEY LCA's No it was not delayed..IAF changed the requirements bfore the actual timeframe..anyways LCAs aerodynamics and performance can give any 4th gen aircraft a tough competition....it is the smallest supersonic aircraft in the world, and with Radar absorbing paint has a very small RCS(not in the stealth category though)...the Tejas MK2 with GE-414 engines and electronics better than MKIs will be a top of the edge 4.5 gen aircraft.

LCA is almost a failed project.
India has become such a country, whose every indigenous project ended in failure with the waste of thousands of failed hours. Now india has inducted LCA in IAF in hurry even with its limited capability and defects just to save its FACE.
IAF has decide to induct 20 LCAs by 2017 with limited capability even lower then MiG21. India is repeating the same story of arjun and Murat.

The J-10 now has our own engine with Israeli Avionics and we were there 5 years ahead of you. @jatkshatriya even if the raptor and eurofighter were concieved in the 80's they were done so wid the very intention of bieng the fighters for the 21st century back then dats wat.. unlike the 'workhorse' tejas which was suppsoed to be inducted back in the 70's itself .. had the tejas really been dat advanced then it wudnt ave ended up looking more like the 1970's mig's rather then the 21st century raptor.

@REXXBAILEY ..Thats what i am saying...raptor was designed to be a fifth gen aircraft..when Tejas was concieved it was concieved as a thrid gen aircraft to replace migs...midway IAF changed the requirements and said they want a 4th gen aircraft that can substabtuially outdo the PAFs F-16s....and So entire project had to be redesigned..this was a first attempt directly at a 4th gen aircraft which tool only twenty years caz funds were released in 1990s..and thats very good actually

@REXXBAILEY LCA's No it was not delayed..IAF changed the requirements bfore the actual timeframe..anyways LCAs aerodynamics and performance can give any 4th gen aircraft a tough competition....it is the smallest supersonic aircraft in the world, and with Radar absorbing paint has a very small RCS(not in the stealth category though)...the Tejas MK2 with GE-414 engines and electronics better than MKIs will be a top of the edge 4.5 gen aircraft.

@REXXBAILEY about looks...Tejas looks much much better than the mig-21s ...its shoulder mounted cranked delta design is a very complex design..its not just any delta design...this specific facet makes it higly manuverable as compared to normal Delta designs...and BTW looks doesnt count..F-117 night hawk looked shit yet it was revolutionary for its time...Tejas is a great 4th gen plane and is worth the effort of 2 decades looking at the base it has created,,

Even better will be, India's indigenous stealth fighter AMCA powered by 2 kaveri engines with 95 kilotons thrust each. AMCA stealth will take the role of a terminator.

People of India should have patience with Tejas & other fighter jets. Tejas faced all kinds of sanctions, red-tape, not the right talent working for it, people who joined left in between for better IT paying jobs, no industial base even to manufacture a scooter engine and finacial crunch. More than that challenge of establishing a aero-space infrastructure & talent base from the scratch. Now all those problems gone and whole world co-operating with india, you will see miracles in 5-10 years.
