  • I have always just tied the new yarn to the old yarn and burn it so it stays together and just kept knitting... Should I not do it that way?

  • Hi, I'm doing a double sided knit with a slip stitch and I need to switch colours. the pattern has 56 cast on stitches and is K1, slip one purlwise with yarn in front. Would I basically do the same thing as shown in the video but start with a knit stitch? Is there any problems with slipping stitches when switching colours?

  • How do you change colour just for the ribbed bit, then back to the orginal colour and back to the other colour for the next ribbed bit?

  • Hello, I'm trying to figure out how to cast off if I'm knitting with two colors. I can't seem to find any videos on it. >~<

  • Hi, does this also work when you do a normal knit and pearl method?

  • What an educational video in so many levels!!! THANK U for making this video!!!!!

  • Oh wow, that was a lot easier then I thought! Thanks!

  • Sorry the first few stitches are double (2 stitches), does it mean that I have to continue stitching showing 2 stitches as one?

  • This tutorial was just what i was looking for. Thank you, thank you, thank you! :D

  • Thank you for posting this. It reallt helped. I am making a bunch of stripes scarves for Christmas gifts; they were turning out all lumnpy and bumpy. Your technique made them perfect.

  • Thanks! And what yarn is that!!? Is GORGEOUS! I would love to know? Or did you spin it yourself? Thanks again :)

  • really good demo ,thanks for it

  • That really helped.. I'm making my first scarf and I wanted to make it striped, but I had no idea how! You made it really easy and straightforward. Thanks!

  • Nice and easy....thank you

  • How do you do this if you are doing the bamboo stitch and you've run out of yarn?

  • Changing color with a rib stitch, to me, makes it look messy because you see the new color under the old. I would almost do one row of straight knitting just to make a cleaner color change.

  • how do you "carry" your yarn with the project? i want to do a thin stripe and a thick stripe, but i don't know how to keep my thin color with my thick color til i'm ready to use it. do i just cut it off and start over?

  • @islandgaijin I know right! It helps so much, and my knitting looks 100% better!

  • This is the best video i've seen on changing yarn, all the others were confusing! Thanks a bunch!

  • @watercrystalfairy totally agree. i also like the little side-pointers that she gives about how to make it look better!

  • really helped and i am a complete newbie.

  • thank you for this, from England!!

  • off topic, but I love that blue yarn! (I'm a sucker for multi-yarns, even if its two colors striped together lol)

That being said, this was a really really helpful video! Thank you!

  • thank you very much

  • thanks

  • I have a problem, whenever I'm knitting ( with for example two by two ribbings) and I change the color, the pattern reverses! So my knits become purls and my purls become knits. I don't understand how to prevent this (yeah, I'm a slow learner, sorry). Could you please help me?

  • so if your done with the blue or the color ur using, and u want to add the pink bak in do u just start with it again? if u do that wouldnt they show on the side?

  • your video really helped me because you actually explained everything as if you were teaching a noob knitter, and used two different colors of bulky yarn so it was very easy to see what you were doing. this really helped me add a new color to the baby blanket i'm making. thanks! =)

  • my only problem is, the loop that you used in the new colour stays on the needle? meaning that I need to drop a stitch to keep it even? it made my scarf look a little messy, are you doing something that I'm not?!

  • @yellowxeyedxwolf If you knit (or purl) the new yarn in like I did, when you come to the place where you have added the new yarn you will see 2 stitches instead of one, you just knit (or purl) those stitches together. You just need to treat it like one stitch.

  • So detailed and well explained! Thanks so much, great job

  • Thanks for putting up this video. My son wants a striped scarf, and now I think I can manage it!

  • @caseyjz1 - actually, in order to make a striped scarf, you just need to use a multicolored yarn. The stripes will happen while knitting. It has for me anyway.

  • Thank you so much! This was very helpful, and you explained it and showed what to do very well. I also appreciate you describing how to weave the tails in!

  • @12345iheartvampires it looks like a super bulky yarn, I use Lion's Pride Wool Ease: Thick and Quick a lot you need a pair of 13 or even 15 needles which is what it looks like she's using here.

  • Thank you for helping me this was very helpful i'm new at this again thanks

  • I made a multicolored scarf this year but it was all garter. I want to make a nicer scarf for a friend, and I think I got the hang of 2x2 ribbing, but I'm wondering...how is this going to affect the casting off step? Do you just cast off like you would garter?

  • @Nixlplix When I cast off if I'm doing ribbing I C/O as though I were ribbing still. though you can C/O all as though with a garter stitch.

  • @SaintDharma32 Good timing on your reply. I'm ready to c/o today! I tried it on a small test piece and doing all as though garter seems like the best bet for me...

  • Thanks for this video...now I can move on with my project!

  • That is some fat yarn.

  • This is EXACTLY what I needed to see. I am ribbing my first 2 x 2 rib-stitch scarf and I ran out of yarn and freaked out. I'm SO new at this, and I LOVE your video. Easy to see, easy speed - THANK YOU.

  • Very helpful. We are working on our first two-color scarf and needed a little direction on changing colors. Your video was an awesome resource. Thanks again! :)

  • um, How do you finish after sewing the tail thread into the stitches?

do you make a knot or something?

  • Thanks a lot. You'd make a great teacher!!

  • Thanks! That was simple - easy for a beginner like me to understand :-)

  • great tips lady your amazing!1!!

  • what kind of yarn are you using in this?? is it soft and good for making hats?

  • thank you! sooo helpful

  • best video I've seen to help me with this. THANK YOU.

  • Thank you so much I am attempting my first Fair Isle/Intarsia work and any help on adding color and changing yarns is SOOO helpful!!

  • can u show me how to knit a baby sweater pls.

    please pls.....

  • nice! :D so im trying to make a pair of norwegian mittens, when you are to change colors to create a pattern is it the same thing?

  • Wow! That is some great-looking, chunky yarn! What is that, exactly?

And great video! It helped me right away :) thanks!

  • thanks. very helpful :)

  • how do you keep track of what side is the right side? I tried this,,,knit 2, pearl 2 and always get confused! I thought about putting a sticker on one side to mark it?

  • the bumps are the pearls and the v's the knits on either side.

  • I loved that you used the bulky yarn. It made it very easy to see the process. Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for posting this - it was so helpful! =)

  • Very, very helpful. Well illustrated and explained...especially for the noob knitters (like myself).

  • I'm so glad I could help you out.

  • When you changed colours and knitted the tail in, surely that then makes two stitches?

  • Yes it does but knit (or purl) both stitches together when you get to them.

  • You are a knitting goddess.

  • @crazyezra LOL....you're cute. Thank you.

  • Thx you sooo much!!!!My scarf is gonna have soo much color!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much! I am working on a scarf and this helped me so much. Thanks for posting.

  • how do u end ur knitting when u r finish knitting?

  • @cutxiongurl you cast off and on your last stitch you cut your yarn and pull it through the last stitch.

  • Is there any way to eliminate the weird stripe of dark against light when you change color? It looks a lot like needle work and its not exactly pretty... Could anyone plz help? im a little bit of a beginner :P

  • i'm so glad somebody asked this question. i've been working on a scar for months but can't finish because i hate the weird look of the line thingy when you add a color. I need help too.

  • @meekaminniee not that I know of because you are adding yarn and that's just the way it knits together.

  • thanks soo much! im alredy starting my winter scarf and it changes colour :)

  • I am a beginner at knitting and I'm working on a huuuuuuge scarf that changes colors many, many, many times. So THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO much for this clear tutorial ^^

  • Very helpful!! Thanks for taking the time to post.

  • thank you for sharing your knowledge! :D

  • You are very welcome. I'm glad I could help you out.

  • I have found this video *very* helpful! Thank you.

Not only are your instructions clear and detailed, but I **really** appreciate the thick yarn in contrasting colors. This makes it easy to see exactly what you're doing.

    Again, thanks! :o)

    Blessings to you~~

  • how much of the original yarn should be left when you change to a new ball (i'm using the same color)?

  • Most people leave about a 6 inch tail. When you go to weave (sew) that in you wont use all 6 inches, but it give you enough for reassurance.

  • How do you change back to the original color when the working end of the original color isn't where it should be anymore? (Bear with me I'm a beginner) :)

  • If you are doing color work on something that has a right and wrong side (like a hat) you can just pick up the yarn and carry it over to where you need it. Make sure you do not pull tight on it or you will have a pucker in that area of your knitting. You can also cut the yarn leaving about 6 inches to weave in and pick up the color you need and start again like I showed in my video.
