I would like to hear John Lott talk about the gun ban in Australia. From what I've read the crime rate was decreasing before the ban, and continued decreasing at roughly the same rate after the ban and buyback program. It's not really a point for the gun-control people, but it's not exactly consistent with his analysis either. I don't know what kind of controls they had in the study though.

@darwinkilledgod i don't know about australia in particular, but if the numbers were taken by the government sometimes they get fudged. in the UK they said crime violent crime rates went down after their ban, but what really happened was they changed the definitions of violent crime. I don't remember exactly, but they said something like if the criminal didn't actually shoot anybody then it wasn't a violent crime.

@Alxscode Guns can safe lives. In fact, SUVs aren't designed to kill people, but they 'kill' countless of people every year. Do you want to ban SUVs?
