  • that was great, Kevin. thanks for sharing with all of us, and thank you, London for being the cutie you are! :)

  • Beautiful. Being a Christian I struggled with this song. But hearing you sing it, I know I... I know I'm not the only one that struggles.

  • Your voice is so special!

  • Enjoyed this. Was worried you were going to desecrate it like Cee Lo did, but you didn't, and I respect you for that.

  • @kirkles66 nobody cares about your fairy tales. The best move Kevin Max ever made was to get out of Christian music so he could really put his creativity to work.

  • theres quite a few and i find that significant. nope not in this one....onto the next...

  • bored of counting crows so counting videos where kmax has his left hand cuffing his coat thingee, lapel, whatever that is. now y oh y would i do that?!

  • I don't think Kevin really cares! he's doing what makes him happy!

  • HEY KEVIN, I AM REALLY HUGE FAN, I REALLY BELIEVE THAT YOUR VOICE IS AWSOME, YOU REALLY SOUND LIKE BONO FROM U2, BUT STILL, YOU REALLY NEED TO START A BAND... BE IN ONE, THAT WILL SKYROCKET YOU AGAIN, IS DIFFICULT WHEN A GUY IS DOING SOLO, FOR EXAMPLE CHRIS CORNELL HE WAS BETTER IN AUDIOSLAVE, SOUND GARDEN PLEASE CONSIDERED MY FRIEND.

  • good cover and adorable ending. loved it!

  • This is what I love about YouTube! Fans of Kevin Max get treated to a great live intimate performance from Kevin's home. Thanks for allowing us a peek into the Max household, Kevin!

I always felt that while he was in Dc Talk, Kevin was shackled by the chains of corporate Christianity and now that he is free at last (haha) we get to see the emergence and creativity of one of the most truly influential artists of our time.

  • I'm all for poetry. Kevin has ALWAYS been my favorite DC Talk member, and I miss his voice. But Kevin, by your theory, "My Sweet Lord" is ok to do as a Christian, with it's Hare Krishna chants? Love to hear your feedback. And, I think you've "aged" well.

  • hmm, i used to listen to the band LIVE and they were one of my all time favs-but after a revelation of Jesus and the choice to follow HIm I have no desire to listen to a band whose lyrics say "a man of love,a man of strength, but what a man was 2000 yrs ago means nothing at all to me today"Just I cant see how a follower of Jesus would care to exalt someone who doesnt believe in God at all.As an artist Kevin Max is incredible but I must warn about being "friends with the world"

  • ... it can be religious, political, ethnic ... anyway, I think that God is a God of liberty and He gave us freedom to live our lives, the problem is that people take freedom and make a free-doom of that. I don't want to bored you with my writing. I want just to tell you that don't press attention to the people that say : "how a christian cover that song ?", it's a beautiful song, with a beautiful wish from someone that didn't knew God. If only Lennon could know God ... if only ...

  • Kevin, what a great cover of the song and loved the big grin on your daughters face. Not sure why people were up in arms about a Christian singing this song. Seems to be a good summary of the Kingdom of God to me - a world beyond religion, a world of peace, a world where we are not defiend by our possesions. Is this not what the liberation theologians fought for?

  • Yes Kevin you are immortally beautiful. You have a beautiful mind and a beautiful voice and I will forever be a fan. So much love to you. You bring incredible joy to my musical heart.

  • Kevin Max: I love your music when you were in dcTalk but after that you just got weird.

    Still cool though, great voice,

But why are you covering this song? You are a Christian. Right?

  • why is a Christian covering this song?

  • Seriously the coolest voice on the planet. Beautiful.

  • Kevin thanks for your music! dont like you disappearing from music, i hate pop chrisitian music, it sucks for the most part. your voice is beautiful! no homo

  • might be one of the most underated (singing ) voice in the world. To bad hes singing in his house and not in front of thousands.........he can still sing like he used to wow!

  • Kevin, I just happened to search for you on here, and I am so happy to see you are still singing with that beautiful instrument God gifted you with! I so enjoy hearing you sing!

  • ...'But then again, we think The Beatles were weird'

you should know where I got that from; you probably didn't write the lyrics for that particular song, did you? :)

  • @JayJA5ON i love rap music by dc talk early 90s big dc fan

  • your voice makes me smile...amazingly flawless...beautiful tone as always....and I love me some lennon and beatles! thank you for sharing this and your little girl is too cute!

  • whoa... Kevin Max's face is not like before.. i didn't recognize him... i thought this is a fake trying to be Kevin Max... but i recognize him through his voice... the tune/tone and the shaking epic thing whenever he's singing..

i wish he's still a active, strong believer..

  • @Kevinmax hey man, as a believer myself, I can respect the idea of appreciating good art and not taking everything SOMEONE ELSE wrote as if you wrote it (for the record, I'm a huge Lennon/beatles fan). I catch heat for this as well from fellow Christians from time to time when quoting someone else or simply covering a song.

Anyway, I appreciate you being genuine and real. Honestly, part of me wishes you'd get back into the CCM game...and tell the world like it is. Just the straight, honest,

  • It's quite interesting to hear you singing this. I like it.

  • My fiance and I have been talking about this song since we heard A Perfect Circle's version. For example, its not about communism so much as it is about losing the need to "possess" things. We've talked about this in regards to jealousy in relationships as well, and I really think that if people (even non-Christians) would adopt this mindset, we'd all be much more emotionally healthy and LOVING.

Oh, and London is SO ADORABLE!

  • kevin max I would like to congratulation you about this very beuty version, and I would like to say that we can see this song like a comparation with Revelation 21, Do you ever ready about it? It's great. When a celestion City from God come, and wil not exist no Heaven above us, no hell, no country, and no religion, well... this is a reality, will happen, is there, in the Bible, to everyone see, this is my new perspective about this song, every good talent come from God.

    God Bless U.

  • You had inspired me to sing.

Your gift had activated mine, and awakened me to sing with passion ever since.

From my heart, thank you, I am truly grateful. God bless.

  • I love your voice, but don't sing this song, it doesn't fit you.

  • Dude your voice has been a part of my life since I six years old. Every time you would sing on the dc talk albums in my moms honda civic I would get the chills even as a child. thank you.

  • ESTE ARTISTA CRISTIANO ME GUSTA MUXOOOOOOOOOOOO ES UNO D MIS FAV Y PUES LA KANCION ESTA SUPER ............. YA SAVEN X Q LA PONGO

  • Pretty good there love to hear you sang lennon. Actually wish i could get that recorded as i prefer your voice to lennons every day of the week. I will say the truth of lennons song however misguided he was as a man was divinely inspired as god is tge author of all creativity.

  • este artista cristiano es super bueno

  • Pure Liquid Resonance ;)

  • Wow, your kid listens as well as mine do! And very nice with the singing and the playing, thanks for putting this up.

  • @yankobutt i said i DO BELIEVE in the authentic christ------read it again if you must.

  • EL MEJOR ARTISTA CRISTIANO WOOOOOOW ME ENKANTA ENSTA CANZION

  • Well. I'm no one to dictate what God thinks or feels, but I bet he enjoys this song and hopes everyone would imagine those same things.

  • @mArCuSL9999 Your humility is admirable & more people ought to follow your example of not putting words in God's mouth. We should let God's word speak for itself & since it says that it's impossible for God to lie (Heb. 6:18) & that He cannot deny Himself (2 Tim. 2:13), it's hard for me to imagine that this song pleases God or that He would hope people imagine something that denies his existence & contradicts His truth. Peace doesn't require atheism. In fact, peace is impossible without God.

  • Comment removed

  • There's no denying John Lennon's talent. His songs changed the face of music forever. 'Imagine' is probably his most iconic song. Peace (great & small) is certainly something we should all strive for, especially as Christians. Your version sounds great too. That said, are these explicitly anti-God, anti-Christian, pro-naturalism, pro-theft (Communism) ideas are your own too? If not (and I hope they aren't) then what is the rationale of a Christian singing this song in such an approving way?

  • @mjhonsun as someone that does believe in the Authentic Christ, i am careful about what i project to people that do not know me. However, as a fan of John Lennon's i feel that the song 'Imagine' eclipses any poltical or religious stance and should be enjoyed as poetry--- as a great 'what if' idea---if we judged every work of art in the sense of verbatim, or the literal, we would be missing the point in most instances.

  • Comment removed

  • @kevinmax Thanks for clarifying. He was definitely an incredible musician, poet, and craftsman. 'Imagine' exhibits all of those qualities and is aesthetically beautiful. However, I also think that it represented his actual political & religious stances that he meant every word he said. I wouldn't ever fault you for enjoying enjoying 'Imagine' as poetry (it's stuck in my head again) but I think we agree we shouldn't allow his political or religious stances to eclipse God's truth . Peace.

  • @mjhonsun

I'm still not convinced that Lennon died as an atheist. On the other hand, I'm certinaly not convinced he died a Christ follower. But I am convinced that at this point in his life (71), he was most definitely an atheist. He was troubled, honest and lived (at least the majority of his life) - in his own words - "never satisfied (spiritually.)" (See "Help me to help myself.") But as far as poetry, music & composing goes, Lennon was gifted.

  • @BRProvince It would be nice if he embraced the Gospel later in life. I don't mean to suggest he never changed any of his views. On the other hand, this song's message never changes in it's unambiguous denial of Christ and his atoning work on the cross. It's a very artistic, poetic, and musically pleasing denial of Christ, but a denial just the same.

  • @kevinmax I would like to congratulation you about this very beuty version, and I would like to say that we can see this song like a comparation with Revelation 21, Do you ever ready about it? It's great. When a celestion City from God come, and wil not exist no Heaven above us, no hell, no country, and no religion, well... this is a reality, will happen, is there, in the Bible, to everyone see, this is my new perspective about this song, every good talent come from God.

    God Bless U.

  • @kevinmax Let's not get too caught up in every word of the song. I see the song as a way to express a dream of mankind not living in the "world" and being driven by materialism in such a way as to neglect our brother. I hear the words "and no religion too" but I believe he sings about a world where we can be Christians as Jesus envisioned and not some denominational faith that is further separated by differing beliefs. Religion per se' serves to separate more than bring together if you follow me

  • @kevinmax By the way Kevin, I follow what you're saying and I agree. I too believe in the "Authentic Christ". While I'm here I want you to know how grateful I am to you for making my two boys ages 13 and 10 fans of yours. They took Jesus Freak and ran with it. Using every song as a vehicle to grow closer to Christ. Isn't it cool to know that your ministry continues even in your absence? Thanks so much and God Bless.

  • @kevinmax It was great to hear this Kevin. I enjoy your interpretation of classics. When I became saved in '99 I listened to Supernatural and Freak show over and over and was captivated by the use of scriptural ideas in your lyrics presented in a personal way. Your approach to vocals has entertained and inspired me more than you could ever know. Thank you for sharing God's gift. You truly are one of a kind.

    Dave

  • @kevinmax Well said, Kevin. I myself see nothing wrong with singing secular music, so long as we live a life showing our faithfulness to Christ. I don't think it's great to glorify secular bands (only Christ deserves that), but how many christians glorify worship bands? Too many. I personally used to think it was an abomination to listen to NIN as a kid who grew up in CCM tunes.. but later on found that really it's no different than listening to the journal of a non-believer..

  • To follow up, if we didn't listen to the journal of a non-believer, how can we relate to them as Christ does? We need to understand what people are going through before they are convinced Christ can help them. That said, as long as we don't let such thoughts take the place of where biblical doctrine should be, what is the harm in listening to, and maybe even singing along to someone's wishes and pain? No harm in respecting Lennon, who was a genius, for his works and covering his work in joy.

  • @mjhonsun This is beautiful. I appreciate the rare Christian who is able to entertain and be entertained by opposing views without the need to redact or criticize reflexively. It's a mark of sophistication of mind that unfortunately most lack, opting instead for blindered faith that cowers at its own weakness. I am no longer a Christian, but I still love Kevin's voice and poetry.

  • @thplatypus Thanks for your generosity. I agree with you that the Christian faith can not be a blind faith. Fortunately for many, it's possible to avoid falling into a pit by blindly clinging to the right trail, but they can still make an awful mess while stumbling through it. :)

  • @mjhonsun Sorry for the confusion, mate... I was directing my praise toward Kevin Max. I think he's the one demonstrating the sophisticated faith and beautiful singing. I was obliquely responding to your comments, which came across as xenophobic and reflexively critical. You don't need to fit everything within the confines of your narrow, religious view.

  • @thplatypus That's alright. I reread it all after I had responded and came to the same conclusion. We'll always agree on KM's talent but what does a "sophisticated faith" mean? Sounds like there's a pretty settled opinion in that statement but what is it? My guess is one can't define it too sharply or they'll be in danger of being charged with "narrow-mindedness". I don't believe in a blind faith but I'm also against always "learning" and never being able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.

  • @mjhonsun I agree with some of those points. We need to have a framework while we consider other beliefs, so I'd never fault you for that. Faith is, in my thinking, belief without supporting evidence, which to some extent is necessary, but should be minimal and paired with humility and doubt, not certainty. My designation of sophisticated faith is reserved for the kind that is not allergic to other ideas with the same lack of supporting evidence, and especially those that are supported.

  • @thplatypus I think that's the definition of "blind faith". If faith were believing in something (including God) without evidence, or proof for that matter, I wouldn't have any. You're absolutely right about some things being necessarily being presuppositional. One needs a founding presupposition in order to make sense out of everything (the use of logic and reason, uniformity of nature, etc.). A presupposition that only material things exist undermines reason and logic itself.

  • @mjhonsun also, xenophobic? Is that a swipe at my mention of socialism/communism because you make it sound like I said something against foreigners which is a pretty awful accusation to make of someone you don't even know. What an uncharitable and hyperbolic characterization on your part. Reflexively critical? Have you been on the internet lately? I made no accusations and I don't know of many reflexively critical comments go to great pains to compliment both artists (KM & John Lennon).

  • @mjhonsun Chill. I was referring to the manner in which you immediately wanted to know why he would dare sing a song "in such an approving way". Just let the guy sing a beautiful song; you don't need to immediately conform his or Lennon's beliefs to your own. Lennon spoke for his own position, and Kevin Max speaks for his. We're at opposite keyboards and don't know each other, but the slice I got was that you had to put everyone in your box. The "xenophobic" was metaphorical, not literal.

  • @thplatypus I don't think that asking if he has made a departure from a system of thought and belief he ostensibly represented at one point in time. The content of 'Imagine' and historical Christianity are polar opposites. I ask the question because he came from a Christian university and used to front a very successful Christian band. There's context to the question. Shoving everything into a "box"? Everyone has a worldview and a "box" they argue from, even progressives and postmoderns.

  • @mjhonsun my thoughts exactly, thx for saving me the typing

  • amazing, as always. :) love you, Kevin.

  • Great rendition of this song! I love the tone in your voice!
