you dont ever want to teach someone to start on their knees cause it will become a HUGE habit of landing on them.. its knee bent, extension and then hands together!
@JNanu34 no you don't use your hands to cushion the fall. When one would dive, one would be low and then one would lean to one side landing on the outside part of your knee, then your hip, then with one or both of your hands you hit the ball, if you use your hands to cushion your fall your gonna snap your wrist! after you slide you roll and get up! never attempt to shorten the length of your dive!!! bad idea!!
This is not how u dive for a ball... first, u dive on ur side.. not ur stomach. If u dive to ur side u dont need to have ur hands at ur side to catch u. u keep ur platform out the whole time. and to get back up u roll over ur shoulder.. or u can do the barrel role for less experienced people. if u dive to ur stomach u cant cover as much space.
@Shelby2895 Well, I dont know how to explain haha. It's like.. more on your side than on your stomach; you move forward to dive for the ball, yet you use the outside of the knee to lower yourself then slide down the rest.. That doesn't make much sence.. but yeah! I learned that from playing vball, not sure if its the technical term.
Honestly, I've coached girls who have never played before and you need to teach them correctly the first time before they start developing bad habits. I've taught twelve year olds how to dive and although they are not always successful at getting the ball up, they have the technique right and the more they encounter the situation, the more successful they'll be. If you're going to get so defensive, don't put up your videos because people will comment.
What the crap was that? That is definitely not game like. What you've taught her to do is to fall to the ball, not dive. The platform should finish all the way to the ground, don't catch yourself, and for those comments, don't use rolling as a consistent methods of getting up after the dig because you are rolling on your spine, and fracturing pieces off. Bellies not butts!
ugh, she is not a volleyball player. she's scared to dive on the floor just like everyone else was. so obviously her 'dive' isn't exacltly a dive, your right its more like a fall. but i taught her the basics and if she were to keep practicing this, she would eventually be able to legit dive.
so yeh not game like, but that wasn't my assignment. i was told to teach a specific skill, not the game.
I'm a girls volleyball coach and I think you made great progress with her diving. Some girls never get it. Middle blockers really hate it. I've always taught my girls to dive the like girls and guys. They learn the barrel roll and the penguin dive. I've found that most of them prefer the penguin dive as you were teaching. The penguin dive seems to become more of a reaction quicker than the barrel roll. I really don't care which they use as long as they get the ball and don't get hurt.
you have to use your hands to land, otherwise you'll flop. she just didn't realize she needed her hands to get the ball, because she doesn't play volleyball. somewhere in the video you can see me telling her to put her hands out, but she was to scared to dive.
@chuckles014 i dont use my hands cuz after i dive i rolld away and up so i can hit the ball right away again and trust me i no how to dive to i play libero
@chuckles014 leg should always be bent helps you get up faster, and what if you over pass and they slam it back at you, that's why you shouldn't have your hands behind you after you dive they have to be in front of you in order to dig it again, and if you dive side ways you roll.
you people are really starting to piss me right the fuck off. think about this for a second. if your diving for a ball, your probably going to be playing competitive volleyball. therefore, after you dive your going to be getting up really fast anyway. otherwise your coach will flip out. so if they slam it back down, you can dive again.
obviously your not going to have your hands stay behind you but can't just not catch yourself. you'll break some ribs.

@JNanu34 you should have enough power and force without using your hands when you dive anyway, if you don't put more effort into it!!!!

@LetsEatUnicorns
no, you're supposed to propose on one knee, not die.
and when you're a skilled player, you don't depend on your knee pads. landing on one knee can result in knee injuries.
she's not falling to the floor, she's learning to dive properly. obviously, she isn't the greatest.

this isnt the right way to dive...ur supposed to have one knee thats bent so u dont scrap ur knees. u dont need knee pads if u do it right...
karenthewierdo 7 months ago 2
@karenthewierdo
i don't need knee pads as you can see. and she needed them because she doesn't know how to do it right, and i didn't want her bruising her knees.
also, this is how you dive forward. your right, diving to the side you should have a leg bent.
