  • the only difference rly between american and mexican is that they use slightly different sized bridges and tuners etc. not rly a huge difference in sound there :P

  • nothing wrong with the mex strats, most of the workers in the Corona plant are of mexican descent any way

  • i sold my brothers 1984 strat in 1992 for him i was not interested in strats then he siad get as much as you can. i sold if for £250 seemed alot at the time. and the guitar was mint and i mean mint condition. wich i bought it and just kept it. most prob be worth about a grand now. for a mint 1984 sunburst maple neck strat.

  • I play lefty too!!

  • @GuitarFreak1901 So do I!

  • I have play lefty too!!

  • The best strat I have is a Jap '85 and it walked all over my American and only sounds different to my Mex, not inferior. The world of guitar preferences is a real interesting area. Always try something whatever it is called and whatever you've read or heard about it.

  • As another aside, I think if you have a dull sounding strat, and they do exist, try a set of Dragonfire's they are so cheap that the experiment isn't costly and the sound is really surprising.

  • I had an American classic 95 I think I compared to to my mexican strat and it lost out in all directions except for the schaller tuners on the American. I unhooked the cheap Mex string guides and found it never strayed out of tune. I was very disappointed with the American but as a last resort I stuck a cheap set of Dragonfire p/u's and controls and the guitar sounded like something much better and completely different to the Mex. So I was fairly disappointed with the "genuine article"

  • @2wilburc Yeah, and some say they don't buy China-made or generallly Asian-made guitars...still believing US-made instruments are superior . Time they get this off of their head.

  • got a nice MIM for 2 bills. Nice sound , neck. i always rig the wammy. Ive had americain strats.Maybe the high high end ones are better than MIM but unless you can read the print from the crowd you couldn't tell the difference.Alot of its how you dial it in. I just looked at MIM got 3 springs. Love the little guitar. But sadly I did get spoiled with 24 fret, super dive bomb highend Ibinez. I hate it but its the one ill gig with unless its a blues gig.

  • talk too much play something

  • I don't see why people hate Mexican strats :/

  • @DIGITALH1TMAN because they realized that they have spent twice as much for an American and see no difference

  • Just picked up a new Mex Strat recently, and I am very pleased with it! Seriously, the American one that I compared it to, seems the neck on the American one did not feel as good as the Mexican one. Sounds were very comparable across the board. Of course, will have less resale value, but who cares! I aint selling it, and it plays and sounds great!

  • I went into my music store looking to get an american stratocaster played a shitload of them and ended up walking out with a midnight wine mexican standard because it felt and sounded better than any of the americans I played, half the price as well! So go with feel no matter what anyone tells you. Most of the american fender purists who knock the MIJ or MIM's are just shitcunt twangy pentatonic raping bedroom guitarists anyway.

  • mexicans make fender guitars in MX and in USA

  • By the way, Brian cooks, see the videos!

  • I would say people should check out your playing. It speaks for itself and pretty much gives you all the credibility you have earned. I've subscribed, I'm inpressed. I also play in a damn good blues band. I just bought a MIM Players Strat. It's freakin great. I haven't used it on stage because my #1 is an ES-335. But I'd have no problem playing on stage with it.

You guys jam, anyone reading, check out his site! Wow! Nice.

  • My Fender Classic Seris (MIM) '70s Stratocaster is my first Fender and the best guitar I ever had, this axe revived and put me back on track as a guitarist after I went through few years of not playing. It sounds good, it feels good, it looks good and it stays in tune, just the guitar of my dreams.

  • Do you play a surgeon on the American TV show House? ;)

  • What pick-ups would you suggest to replace for playing some vintage and modern rock? Nice vid btw, I love my Mexican strat to death, it plays just as well as other American strats so I think I got lucky when I bought it being it was built in the 90's when they used a little higher quality pickups, plus it's purple which I haven't seen too many people have :)

    ~Cheers.

  • Thanks for the information intheblues. I was looking to go electric (finally) after playing acoustic for over 35 years and was thinking of going with an America Standard Strat. I honestly don't think I could justify the extra cash for something I may not stick with and going Mexican made might be a better alternative. You did mention that you changed the pickups ~ does the extra cost then end up near an Amercian priced Strat? Just curious. Again thanks for the information.

  • @TheFenderMan11

So you have played ALL Mexican strats and absolutely not one is as good as your guitar ?. There ISN'T a Huge difference in sound - but you want there to be because you have to justify being a dick and paying out a lot more for virtually the same thing...

What you could have said is ' I have played a few Mex strats but there's none that I like better than my blah blah whatever'

This would have saved you from coming off as a fucking guitar snob idiot

  • Springs on the neck?

    Mine just has 4 bolts.

  • no mexican strat can compare to my 2007 american vintage 57 reissue. THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN SOUND BETWEEN MEXICAN AND US STRATS!! You get what you pay for with USA made strats.

  • bought one last week,fantastic : )

  • Every tried Jap Strats? They're real nice as well. Worth looking into.

  • hey man you're a lefty! Where do you get your guitars? Its so hard to get lefty guitars -- I had to get mine online (fender lefty standard strat) and the choice was so limited. Oh, I think you are listening to some cover of Albert King (my favourite blues player)! Is this correct?

  • Sory mate but that mexican strat has only two springs at the back holding the neck, so I dont belive it stays in tune easely. On the other side I have bought an american standard Z3074764 and I am realy disapointed with it, it a nightmare to setup properly. I don't know what to do crews are not told enough to setup the high E. HELP please. cheers, joao

  • @jmbgouveia mine has 4 springs lol

  • @intheblues lol he was not expecting that, his eye are a tad crossed I am thinking lol

  • @intheblues as does mine and stays in tune really well.

  • @jmbgouveia

Take the spring off the intonation screw. It gives you an extra 1/4 inch for intonation.

  • @Watche777 Thank you vm for the tip.cheers, joao

  • @jmbgouveia 4 springs ;L

  • @jmbgouveia

    mine has 5

  • @jmbgouveia you are bot wrong the mexi strats have 3 springs

  • @jmbgouveia my mexi has 3 springs

  • @jmbgouveia If you didn't know, up to four springs can be placed according to your prefference.

  • @jmbgouveia change the things that hold your strings on the neck, for 60 € you should find very good stuff. Your guitar will stay in tune with it

  • @jmbgouveia dude!! the springs in the back are attached to the spring claw which acts as a stability for the bridge and ground for the internal pots. the spring claw and springs have NOTHING to do with the neck, you fucking moron. im fourteen and i even know that shit man... its the basics. i personally dont buy authentic strats from factory because they are all horribly made. I have to say the MIM necks are pretty good though

  • @anomosity101 i build strats from warmoth and thats about it. i like the wiring in strat bodies because its simple and looks good and sounds great. you should replace those tuning pegs and machines.

  • Hi Shane, Thanks for posting this very helpful video. I was undecided between the new Squire and the made in Mexico Stratocaster. I will save up more money and get the Mexican one for sure. Cheers, Veronika

  • @Akuarius1987 hey moron, grow up and learn to listen asshole.

  • @intheblues blues forever

  • @Akuarius1987 he says at the beginning that he is not playing in this video

  • you sound like sam worthington from avatar

  • Why?? Couldn't Fender come up with a guitar, that at least has 24 Jumbo frets and a special locking type floating Tremelo whammy bar!! Similar to the IBANEZ!

  • @jimzzy49 A.K.A. A super strat...

  • @BCDPRODUCTIONS1234 Where, does it Exist!???

  • @jimzzy49

Because Fender guitars are primarily blues guitars, or at least they were.

  • I have a MIM Red Strat. I have owned American Strats but honestly I can't tell the difference between the two. I can't justify almost 2 grand or more just to have Made In USA on the peghead. I can get the exact same sound out of my MIM Strat so why spend the extra money? I have owned 3 MIM Strats and have been happy with all of them.

  • hey m8 im a lefty too and im about to buy the exact same white mexican strat

i have 2 questions i see the price difference from 399-450 pounds are these just different deals or difference in the guitar and the other question is that can this guitar be used for metal playing,if not are there any special pickups which can make that possible

  • I own a 2008 MIM and a 2008 American strat. I think the pickups in my MIM sound better than my American strat. The only big difference to me is the American standard has a better bridge and solid metal tremolo block and the extra fret. They also have a better string tree. I love my Mexican strat, I hardly play my MIA.

  • @kmacnumber2 those details you mentioned are about THE ONLY differences in the 2 guitars. Other then the price mind you! I bought a 2007 Fender Lonestar Star Strat and I absolutely love it! I have played many US built Strats in the 12-2000 dollar range and I personally think that the MIM strats are just as good! Both have the same woods, necks, neck profiles, hardware. Pickups are about the only real difference. Mine came with Seymour Duncan Pearly gates+ humbucker and texas special single coils

  • im pretty sure this guy int british ! he's an ozzy ( or a Kiwi ) nice vid mate. I got a mexican strat and gotta be honest it plays awesome ! very hard to tell any differece

  • I think the major difference is the length of the neck MIM has 21 american has 22 (I BELIEVE I DIDN"T COUNT) the hardware is different and in my experience from the three I have the fret ends can be a little less finished (rough) BUT I agree a MIM with replace pickups just totally kicks ass and is 1/3 the price of American.

  • nice lefty, i just ordered a lefty amer strat, guess I will be able to check out the difference as well. I've been playing 2 mexican strats, so we shall see. Thanks G

  • the guys australian.

  • I want to buy a Made in Mexico Strat with one Humbucker in the same colour :D

  • Good video. This whole Mexican vs U.S made Strats had me puzzled for a while.

My first guitar was a Mexican made Strat, it was expensive enough, and I didn't even know about this whole debate at the time. But what I ended up doing recently was swapping the pickups for noiseless one, and it sounds great. They're the same pickups that are in a lot of the $2,000 Fenders.

Seems to me the main difference is the electrical parts.

  • Excellent video, mate. Really helped me. I've been messing around with Squiers for a while but I think I need to spend a little extra on a Mexican thanks to what you reported. Your review helped a bundle. Thanks. P.S. Being a Brit, I hope zerosoma33 didn't accidentally offend. Once again, thanks.

  • The Arctic White, maple neck is my ideal strat look. And I'm a lefty too. Sigh.

  • Man u can't tell the difference we're all interested to see but listening to them!!!, both! I don't care all that crap u talk about! besides the low quality of the video, what a waste of time

  • @julipj2004 I assume you can understand english seeing you can type? What did I say right at the start of this video?? "If you want to hear it watch other video". Typical fucking moron. Cya.

  • @intheblues YouTube is littered with idiots. They continue to find ways to get out of their cages and onto their computers.

  • @intheblues yeh man i just bought a mexi strat for 400 and i can't tell the difference in sound or playability for the matter it might of even played a lil better than the american one...sometimes u just gotta find the right one i guess.

  • @intheblues fuck you

your video quality are sooo noobz

you didnt even play the guitar

therefore this is fake and gay

  • @leotheloser Hi Fuck Knuckle. You must be fucking useless in society because you clearly can not hear nor absorb information. You should of listened or at least tried looking at my other videos. You, are a moron :).

  • usa made guitar holds their value better in my opinion.

  • @HmongGuitarPlayer

OH! A Hmong person! Nyob zoo!

  • you sound exactly like the aussie from house! anyone else then me that hears it?

  • LOL i was thinkin the same thing LOLOLOL

  • MIM guitars are good. However, too many standard MIM guitars have sharp fret ends on the side of the neck. Each guitar must be seen in person and checked for this reason.

  • is it actually from mexico?

  • lol... very few of us will actually get this.... but man... so much similarity in the voice

  • USA are better by far, had a Mexican but it doesn't hold a candle to my new 2009 USA model, changed the pickups to Bare Knuckle "Trilogy Suite" set, check it out

  • I just bought a highway on strat this week and i really dig it. I owned a Mexican Tele up until a few months ago and loved it just the same, The only reason i grabbed the highway one over a Mex was the i prefer satin to high gloss and even though it''s only a couple hundred more it;has a better resale, i got nothing for my tele when i sold it.

  • @arjansammani

    best comment ever xD

  • Useful video. It's helped me decide on a MIM Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Strat, with the Texas Specials. Should be awesome :-)

  • nice strat man. i like the mexicans better than the americans

  • Mexican...American... - played by a british! Classic! You rock man!

  • excuse me, an Aussie. :-)

  • lol thanx :)

  • @zerosoma33 this guys not british

  • stratos mexicanas son hechas por mexicanos en México, las stratos de EU son hechas por mecicanos en EU nomas la diferencia de precio, en las standar claro, ya las deluxe y demás pues son tro boleto.

  • LOL this guy sounds like chase from house.

  • I picked up a Mexican strat and didn't even try playing it the way it was. I immediately took off the bridge assembly along with the cheap zinc sound block and all the electronics. I picked up a Callaham Bridge assembly, a thicker & hardened neck plate, stainless neck bolts, locking tuners, and custom shop 69 Abigail pickups! Price for the upgrades was around $340.00 but what a difference. Next up I'll get a fret job and bone nut and it'll be as good a strat as most if not all!

  • if you had the money for the guitar and a 340 dollar upgrade, why the hell didnt you just get a new one??

  • @mitchgnr - Because the cheaper made in America Strats are shit too in my opinion, a quality American strat can't be had for less then $1500.00. There isn't a shit load of differences between a Highway One and a Mexican Standard. I am also partial to the Mexican instruments because my main guitar is a customized Mexican Telecaster classic reissue that I prize even above my Angus Young SG and Les Paul Studio guitars. My Mexican Telecaster plays just as good as Custom shop strats, a sheer joy!

  • @mitchgnr - In all honesty the way to go now would have been to pick up a Squire Classic Vibe series Strat for approx. $350.00 but I wanted the headstock to say "Fender." Squire's Classic Vibe series are quality instruments with real alnico magnets made in China.

  • Thanks dude, very helpful.

  • My first guitar (which is my main guitar) is a MIM Stratocaster. The only difference in sound I can find is from the stock pick ups. With MIM Strat, they play just as good as a USA Strat. Another difference is the price. MIM guitars are 3x cheaper at the store I go to than the USA guitars. The only thing I had a problem with is the tuning stability with my MIM, that's something I fixed a long time ago. Just a simple pick up swap then you got some shreddable axe there. Go for MIM, I say.

  • @snowman20062006 yeah they are great with different pickups hey

  • I agree. MIM vs USA - I would tell anyone on the fence to get out and try them at a shop. If you find a MIM that sounds good - buy it. The QC is a little looser than on USA models and that goes all the way down the pickup windings. If it sounds good, feels good, it is good. It is quite possible to find a great sounding MIM, with a little patience. Recently, I tried out 4 MIM Std Tele's vs a USA Tele Std. 3 of the MIM's sounded sub-par. I bought the one that matched/beat the USA model.

  • @DavidVeeGuitars excellent comments -very true! Cheers.

  • Comment removed

  • I believe him part of the way.... I do think that there is a LITTLE difference. And also, am I the only one who notices its a lefty?

  • @Schweehog1 there are some differences, but I can play this guitar as well as any of my other strats, so I dunno, I don't notice much other than asthetics.

  • @Schweehog1 The differences are simple. 1) MIA is made in America by Americans getting a reasonable wage. Opposite for Mexican one. 2) The American version is made to last. That's why you see vintage American ones in stores and not vintage Mexicans. Eventually, Mexicans will wear down. I don't think the neck is attached the same way as the Americans. 3) The American appreciates in value. If it ends up being a saught-after version, it will be worth more in a few decades. Not so much with the Mex

  • i have a Fender Stratocaster made in Mexico

  • i have had many usa strats over the years and now i play my 2002 superstat deluxe more than anything else, has stock pickups that came with it,think they were overwound typw and this guitar through a marshall sings the blues, however,i am going to mod out the block for a steel one and change the plastic parts for vintage type, other than that for there money they are outstanding, paid £499 in 2002 for mine, but this was the top of the range mex strat at the time.

  • and now the 2009 models have 'made in mexico' on the back of the headstock ;)

  • Im of the same opinion as you. Glad I know that im not the only one now lol

  • cool mate i just got one too and i was wondering why you took off the back plate and if your is the "original contour body" one?

  • To lock the tremelo off, I added another spring. :)

  • CHASE FROM HOUSE

  • haha thanks, I think. I get that a bit on here. I'm aussie but I think that guy was from England originally :P

    Shane

  • young guitarist today think if your guitar wasnt crafted in the usa its not worth a damm? and i'll tell ya thats total BULLSHIT! FIRST OFF THE USA are not the best guitar crafters in the world were top ten but not the best. you have guitar crafters like korea thats always been known for there A+ craftmanship and with the past 5 to 6 years you now have mexico/japan and china that are Brilliant guitar crafters i would purchase a guitar crafted from korea just as fast as i would one from the USA!

  • yer mate the only basic difference between squier and fender (talking bout standards) is that the electronics are kinda worse and the tuners usually do worse but wateve it actually HELPS to have a guitar that untunes itself on a daily basis coz it helps you get used to tuning it. I've got a friend who's got a fender mexican standard strat and he just never tunes it but I kinda get him coz the place he bought it appraently Santana tuned it

  • through another tin on the barbie mate strouth fuckin flys everywhere

  • I totally agree with stratdem. Mine is a 60's classic players, which is unbelievably good. The neck was a bit thick for my hands, so I carved it down. I was going to replace the tunning gears, but no need, it stays perfectly in tune. The PU are grey bottoms, same specs as CS 60's, just wound in Mx. . It comes with zinc block, so that had to go, Replaced it with a callaham, now is equal or better than a CS.See some of my Strat in the dark vids for proof.

  • some says the difference is in which side of the frontier is the mexican assembler..

  • in 2006 fender mim strats went through a change including wood quality and craftmanship. from 2006 to present the MIM STRATS ARE CRAFTED FROM 3 PIECE ALDER WOODS NOT 5 TO 7 PIECES BEFOR 2006. THE ALDER WOOD IS THE SAME WOODS USED ON MOST AMERICAN MADE STRATS AND THE BODY AND NECK CRAFTMANSHIP IS ALSO JUST AS GOOD. SO IF YOU HAVE A 2006 TO PRESENT STANDARD MIM STRAT YOU HAVE A QUALITY MADE STRATOCASTER THAT WOULD MATCH MOST AMERICAN MADE STRATS. AND ALSO THE mim factory is also state of art.

  • the woods on the 2006 MIM standard strats are the same wood used on most MIA strats. the body and necks on the 2006 MIM strats craftmanship and quality is the same as most MIA strats. also if you look at the MIM strats they do look very simular to the late strats of 1968 and 1969. and on a nother note the fender highway one 2007 sss strats are one of the most sought after strats out there today because of there tone superior and there old school strat feel.

  • i would take a 2006 MIM standard strat over a american standard strat ANYDAY!

as a few pro guitarist put it the 2006 MIM standard strat body and neck are the closes to a original 1968 strat you will ever get. the 2006 MIM standard strats are hard to find today and are all ready legends!

  • stickers look shit

  • thanks for the advice man. i will get a mexican, not worth the extra money for the snob value. im gonna get either an all white and maple neck like yours or a sunburst with a rosewood neck. upgrade the pickups, bridge and then play the fuck out of it.

  • I love my MIM strat. maple neck, made in 06, great sounding guitar and I just absolutely love the neck on it, very fast and great action. Which is weird, as I had a strat many years back and found the neck to be to small for my hands "I have long fingers" so I played mostly a few different les pauls over the years, came across this one for a killer deal and bought it, best feeling neck I have had the pleasure of playing on for an electric! oh, its the 60th Ann model as well, dont know if diff.

  • guitars made in the US are more expensive because of the fact that labour costs are way higher in the US.

    period.

i've played a massive number of different guitars available...loads of different pickups...etc...

I can safely tell you that it really doesnt matter WHERE a guitar is made.

I even have a bunch of chinese made guitars and they're frighteningly good.

  • My comment last week (you can read if you want) says that i think the Mexican Strats are of poorer quality. I stand by that statement! I am not a racist nor am i biased. I am simply stating MY opinion based on years of playing, building, and repairing both American and Mexican Strats. I think they (Mexican Strats) are great if you are a beginner, or you are not as fortunate to buy an American Strat. But i have found that the electronics are of "Cheaper" quality as are the frets.

  • Screw you, you minutemen. Go back to your KKK cult.

  • Sold my American Deluxe to buy a Mexican Classic Player. The deluxe sounded like someone was playing it in a burlap bag. Clunky huge tuners too.The Classic Player sounds......classic. As far as tuning, it doesn't go out except string stretch, which happens on all guitars. Pots and the switch are the same as U.S.. Same maple neck, alder body. Finish was the same quality as the Deluxe. The neck edges and frets are very nice. Tremolo is the same as an American std. It feels like a real guitar.

  • Well said... I've been playing 33 years, play professionally and I'm quite picky in my gear: I tried various strats and the mexican one was just as good... why chuck money away? I gig a lot and it's nice to take out at least one instrument I am not going to worry about unduly.

  • Thank you so much, This was extremely helpful. I am Mexican, i wanted a Mexican strat so much but I've heard many criticisms. If you say it is just as great, then I'm doing it. Again, thanks. And your voice is cool. lol

  • Fender Mexican strat and tele bodys and necks are made in the US factory and then sanded and finished in the Mexico Factory. Only real difference are the pick ups and the Bridge. Still great value for the money. If you change the pick ups and have a pro set up your MIM Fender, you will have an awesome sounding and playing guitar for half the price. I hate guitar snobs. Not everyone can afford to spend over a grand on a MIA.

  • They use to not be over a grand too, my old AM Std was like 930 now they are ridiculous...I wish i never got rid of it, but i have a MIM that looks and sounds just like it

  • @kmacnumber2 i agree with you. Any guitar can sound good and any guitar can sound bad

  • you sound biased. and racist. perhaps the only difference with the two is tonal quality of wood and stock pickups. upgrade both with the same pickups, and only Eric Johnson can hear the difference

  • Biased? Racist?? How did you come to that conclusion? What does racism, and the quality of guitars have in common? Unreal. I was giving my opinion based on my EXPERIENCE playing guitars for almost 30 years. Not being biased, and racism? really? your train of thought has derailed my friend!!

  • anyone saying the mexies are poor quality isnt quite on the money and doesnt know the history of fender.. early models that are sought after were made hap hazardly in the early day by mexicans under leo fender and they cost a bundle these days...sure there are crap examples but thats true of any product in the same category.

  • i think i might buy one of these.

my local music store has a used one for $280. i know it has a new bridge pickup but im not sure about the others...

  • Very sound advice. Few people will listen though, too much snobbery. I have just traded down from an American Thinline tele (the 90s one) to a mexican strat and there is very little difference. I have been playing for 30 years, so some of the comments here are just plain wrong about "you need to be good to hear the difference" . Each guitar is different anyway, even from the same factory, and a lot is in the setup, and wait for it, the player. I checked out your playing, lovely stuff BTW.

  • glad to see i'm not the olny lefty on the planet

  • Comment removed

  • I have 3 strats from a rare deluxe strat, to a highway and this new mexican that I modified with good pickups. It plays and sounds fine to me.

  • Not always, each one has to be judged individually. Some are alright while others might have problems with build quality.

  • Truly I don't think that a beginning-intermediate guitarist would really be able to tell the difference in playability and tone of the two guitars, only when you get to learn and understand guitars more do you realize how important they are, it's really not gonna matter if you buy your 12 year old kid a $400-500 Mexican made or if you buy them a $1200 USA Stratocaster, they cant tell, but even if thats not the case, save the nice expensive stuff for later, when you can understand what it does

  • very, very helpful!

    thanks

  • mexicans are better

  • were can i get a mexican stratocaster

i want one because theyre fender and are cheap

and whats funny is i live in mexico and cant find one in tijuana but is close to california but cant find them in guitar center so were can i get one

  • Try going to Guitar centers web site or Musicians freind I bought a HSS strat at guitar center at a good price right off the floor, so I'm sure they have them on their website.

  • an HSS strat is mexican?

because it is then i know wich ones they are

  • I guess they're available both mexican and made in USA.

  • they look soo much better in olympic white with maple fret board :)

  • can l play heavy metal on mexixan stratocaster?

  • I would not use a stratocaster to play metal. The tone just does not suit it. Some disagree, two of the guitar players in Iron Maiden play Stratocasters, and Yngwie Malmsteen plays only Stratocasters. If I was going to play metal though, I would want a Gibson or PRS.

  • well of course i mean who want's to use single coil pickups for metal, also strats arn't as heavy, they are made weaker for sweeter tone, gibsons are mad like tanks with fat humbuckers, dark soft mahogony woods, and alot more string tension for speedy picking and playing

  • That's pretty much what I said. I was explaining to another dude who asked if a Strat would be good for metal.

  • negative
