  • UN hurray. LOL

  • David Mitchell for Prime Minister!!!

  • Make the super rich pay tax. Job done.

  • @thecrazychef1 How exactly do you do that?

  • despite at least 108,491 people watching this series, it seems that nothing has really sunk in. So my message is think about things people say, don't just assume that these little rants are nothing but a bit of entertainment. But knowing the internet; this series has probably just been watched 1000 times by 100 people.

  • I wanted to watch all of the episodes of the series in one continuous stream of mitchelly wisdom but I had to listen to some twat shouting IT'S JOYOUS at me every 10 minutes so I'm never buying a Dell computer ever again

  • While all of this is filled with wisdom and good points, I think my favorite part still is:

    "(...)HOORAY! ... Well, no; UN-hooray."

  • awesome video.

  • That dell advert is making my brain bleed

  • "Keep waste, stick the newborns in shoeboxes" made me laugh out loud in a library, thanks David

  • Call me cynical, but waste in politics sounds tautological to me.

  • If you're eating toast, it sounds like "No one likes catch phrases" and it's still true

  • "Un-Hooray" XD

  • @KaslarProductions that's my new favourite expression

  • "...and you're welcome to sleep with my corpse."

  • But there are plenty of ways to cut waste, and it's not entirely a matter of competence, but also of priorities and voters' demography. For instance, Powell's Morecambe budget was a good way to cut waste. Not giving out large homes to refugees for free would be a good way to cut waste.

    I don't think I quite understand.

  • Hang on which vodcast did he mention the bikini?

  • @nathanwatson0 I've heard it mentioned in the quiz soapbox, if that helps?

  • Well no. Un-hooray.

    :D

  • On that last note: I get first dibs on his body.

  • Somehow, he looks as though he's just had sex in this video. ;)

  • Do you "LIKE" David Mitchell's Soap Box on Facebook?

  • "waste cutting politicians are fooling no one"

what planet are you living on?

  • I had a weird dream involving David Mitchell -- not so strange,, he was being nice throughout - I can't say what. The most disturbing about it was that, eventually, he brushed me off. The even more disturbing thing about it is that he was there in the first place

  • I F'ing love this guy- he's a genius!

    David Mitchell for prime minister!

  • "LIKE" David Mitchell's Soap Box on FaceBook.

If ya want. No pressure. Don't wanna sound like some evil dictator or anything.

  • I could buy a million dollar home if I could just stop wasting an 8th gallon of milk and the last few leaves of lettuce every two weeks.

  • Compassionate Socio-capitalsim ftw.

  • @SouthPads I agree. thumbs up for moderation. Soziale Marktwirtschaft for everyone!

  • pause and press play. and the repeatedly press '6' really fast and he looks like he's turned into a zombie

  • pause at :05, they go squish

  • waste= overpaying private contractors when you can get a better public version for less.

I've just come off the BBC and guardian message boards, don't get me started. i have heard all the Smithian arguments and i will win the debate.

  • @TheClockworkPenguin yeah your totally right. cos just about every single economic theory which states that the private sector is more efficiant than the public sector is wrong. we should all bow down to the infinite knowledge of the guardian and the BBC

  • @taurus494 clearly you are not a student of logical argument.if it is incorrect that the private sector is more efficient than the public sector, then no matter how many theories state this, they will all be wrong. A million crap arguments are no better than one crap one. thats a purely logical rebuttal. i'm not stating outright whether or not the private sector is more efficient. in truth, each system has different definitions of efficiency. most profit for min work Vs most done for least cost

  • Waste = overpaying for public services when you can get a better private version for less.

People against cutting waste are those who profit the most on public misspending either monetarily or politically.

This is a poor attempt to defend the status quo

  • @jayx1ca cutting waste= pissing off those bloody poor.

  • @moreslaw YOU GOT IT! Same here in America. A bit of theater really. The Puppeteers probably have it all worked out YEARS in advance? Green ideas and visions of reformers, REAL answers and innovation, politely swept aside, favoring Business as Usual. We hear things being tried all over the world, speeding rail, environmentally friendly industry, energy advances, efficient homes and building techniques, while we all still muck-around in the rust. Knute, TR Knudtson

  • @Rorxz surely if Mitchell were a socialist then he'd know at least enough about politics to be a socialist?

  • @Rorxz Yes; because his political position is different to yours he obviously cannot know anything about politics *rolls eyes*.

  • I loved the summary!

  • why is Warkworth Castle in the middle of that sea of rubbish?

  • Yay, I got a copy of the book today. $2.99 at the Salvation Army, left behind on a Southwest Airlines flight.

  • Those Labour FUCKTARDS couldn't even balance the books.

  • @TheGreatSteve And neither can the tory fucktards

  • @screwmanx Everything they're doing currently is pretty much trying to do that very thing. Don't you watch the news?

  • @TheGreatSteve They are fucking it up.

They don't even know how to fix it, it seems they are just pulling ideas written on a bit of paper pulled out of a hat

  • @screwmanx Well the manifesto's pledges on the economy were 97-98% spot-on. There's been some new stuff I don't approve of ....had Mr.Laws not been such a naughty boy the Unions wouldn't be hearing bad-news from a tory .....which would be the spoonfull of shugar this government appears to be at a loss without. Vince Cable has been disapointing me rather a-lot recently as well. However while Tony.B kicked ass at PMQ he was otherwise not up to the task in ...most ways ...& Gordon ...butt-fucked us

  • SEXY SEXY VOICE

  • Ahahaha! "Unhurray"!

  • LOL- well unhurray

  • good darwin he's brilliant!

  • 5 people have a badly calibrated mouse

  • me too

  • Is anyone else bothered by the absence of the apostrophe in 'David Mitchells Soapbox' in the description box? If punctuation is going to be disregarded to this extent how are we to know whether the channel name 'davidmitchellsoapbox' should be read 'David Mitchell soap box' or 'David Mitchell's OAP box', a large box David uses to store the elderly, or indeed a large box used to store David himself when he becomes elderly?

  • @Oct23rd4004BC 'A large box used to store the elderly'. LOL, the possibilites that bad punctuation creates.

  • Comment removed

  • @Oct23rd4004BC - Yes very, that's crap! And they've also missed one from "next week's episode" in the red box that comes up at the end.

  • @Oct23rd4004BC its from 8 months ago but thats the best comment ever!!

  • @Oct23rd4004BC It's from 9 months ago but that's funny on many levels. The comment, I mean.

  • @Oct23rd4004BC LOL!

(This word has been been rated and confirmed as usable by David Mitchell)

  • @Oct23rd4004BC you watch too much david mitchell

  • Lol, he's in a dumpster xD

  • omg ive only just realised, that book squishes them at the start, and theres blood and stuff!!!

  • david mitchell? i love you. who's with me?

  • THESE ARE HILARIOUS, FAIR PLAY...

  • Nice

  • David Mitchell for PM

  • One month of new government. So far we have abolished ID cards, the Standards Board, the QCA, GMC, frozen pay for the 80% highest paid public sector workers, require Chancellor of the Exchequer sign off for salaries exceeding the PMs... I could go on - but the Budget should make things clearer. Obviously, it makes no difference who is in charge *rolls eyes*.

The 'top 20 Labour brains' are not very good.

  • i think he schould run for P.M. would do the country goood

  • your welcome to sleep with my corpse...XD

  • "un-hooray!"

  • Healthy dose of realism here.

Oh, and David, the word for what you've been doing is "rant"

  • I suspect they would piss rather much more money up the wall.. :P

  • that was an awesome rant. ive heard him rant before but that was fantastic

  • "I like this"

  • David Mitchell for PM!!!!!

  • This is rubbish. Just goes to show how far standards and expectations have slipped after 13 years of Labour. Reality is going to slap David Mitchell in the face and prove him badly wrong.

  • It's scary the number of articles fit in to one of either two categories: (1) complaining about the quality of public services, and (2) complaining about taxes. The Mail and Express, of course, are especially guilty of this. More or less saying "We wish to be right wing, and we wish to be angry with the consequences"

  • 'unhooray!'

  • Everyone stop bashing the mitchell, hes smarter than most of you!

  • Rather glib.

I now realise its impossible to stop wasting £billions on stupid sh!t like ID cards, NHS computers systems that dont work, Helicopters that cant fly, and handing taxpayers money to China and India to help them pay for their nuclear weapons programmes while their peasants starve and out pensioners freeze.

Silly me. And all it took was some short fat git to make some snarky comments about it.

  • @jonewer actually the NHS register was out of human error, nothing technical. They basically didn't manage it properly while they were making it. And the helicopter just needs a password to fly, but they fixed that now. In hindsight you could call them waste, but hindsight is a magical thing that doesn't exist bfore you do something.

  • It's that pesky old like having things dislike paying for things dilemma again

  • Out of all the conservs, labours, and libs, it only took David Mitchell sitting in a big wheelie bin to pwn them all XD

  • - Dunleavy's preference shaping. Left wing parties have an incentive to expand the size of government and increase the number of public sector employees even if they are unproductive because it increases their base of support amongst voters who then are in favour of big government because their jobs depend on continued bloated public services. Thus, more weakly productive public sector employees and benefit dependants = more votes at election time for a big state party.

  • Cornish are not english.....just because you tell us we are does not mean we will feel that way......o no the labour thought police are coming for me now

  • The end was the ultimate culmination!

  • if david mitchell, stewart lee and charlie brooker got together and made a political party i might bother to start voting

  • @antichris78 can stephen fry be included as well, he'd make a brilliant PM

  • yes!

  • @jeremyshambles any bipolar depressive would make an awful prime minister. If Stephen Fry were prime minister he would not be brilliant it would just be way cool.

  • @DetailedSubset i stand by my vote.

  • @DetailedSubset Odd then, as Winston Churchill WAS a Bipolar Depressive, & generally pretty well regarded as a PM!

  • @bassoprimo Churchill was also very in control of himself , he didn't hide in Belgium for a year or spend £20,000 at an Apple store in less than 4 hours, or suddenly decide to quit twitter in a bout of rage because somebody said he did a lot of twitting then waiting a few days to change his mind and most importantly Churchill never said that he would make the most terrible prime minister in history on national television.

  • @DetailedSubset ? Quite what that has to do with the price of fish? The point I was making, Bipolar depressives CAN be very functional people, and are known to be very creative. Churchill was known to have very severe downs, so no doubt much of what was happening to him was kept from public eyes, so comparing that to the wide open lifestyle Stephen Fry has is rather pointless.

  • @antichris78 i love your comment so very much.

  • @antichris78 Gotta add on Marcus Brigstocke as well

  • @antichris78 or just extend the amount of seats on have i got news for you?

  • @antichris78 That's basically the political dream ticket for anyone who finds life vaguely infuriating.

  • @antichris78 I wish that would happen so much. Though i think theres still an inherent risk Charlie Brooker would go mad with power and started marching everyone who doesnt like Doctor Who into death camps...

  • @antichris78 Great choice! And just maybe recruit Dara O'Briain and Frankie Boyle as well.

  • @antichris78 Oh hell yes.

  • @antichris78

Good call! It would be the first time in the entire history of politics that something actually made sense.

  • @antichris78 and Chris Morris

  • As if he isn't funny enough with his words and wit , the video set is funny too it has that sesame street vibe-Groovy

If all the asshole politicians were more like him then Britain would be such a very different place....sigh*

  • Good video David.

Waste is far worse in politics than a regular "large orgnisation" though. The reason is that political institutions don't have the same incentives as private ones. In the private sector if you waste money you eventually go out of business. In the public sector if you waste money, who cares? You'll keep getting the tax money, and you'll probably end up getting a bigger budget next year!

  • From my own experience of working in Local authority, civil service and private companies I would say that waste certainly can be cut. Waste is endemic within the civil service and local government to shocking proportions. Some offices I have worked in could easily function with 1/3 of the staff and wastage through use antiquated methods is just as bad. There are "bastards" sitting around devising methods of creating waste, they called union officals.

  • Taking a high brow look at every facett of life is well a bit repetitive and tiresome. I do like David Mitchell. Labour have a soft social underbelly and are more inclined to spend tax payers money on the feckless, the ferrel and the long term useless. lets reign that back in. lets cancel ID cards, cut back on defence I do feel that just because you are more elequent and better with words dosnt make you right. It just makes you better at expressing yourself

  • Love the soapbox! When will we get some more?

  • You can actually eliminate waste to some extent. EG: The Conservatives have said that they will remove ID cards and save lots of money from defense. Remove many civil servants and remove much of the red tape.

  • @ vorlander69 Hi david, doing some online campaigning? ;)

  • lol "un-hooray"

  • i want to hear a david rant on the present multiculturalism and immigration issues in the uk. Its quite strange how intelligent people can reel off so much common sense but when you ask them about multiculturalism they will simply reel off the social expected response that is usually the opposite of common sense, and if they are in the public eye, you can pretty much guarantee that response (unless they were thinking of trying a new profession)

  • David made a large mistake when he didn't stick to those Political meetings in Cambridge, were the most of the powerful people today got there first foot on the ladder to their political stronghold that they have today.

OK, power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, it goes without saying. And yes it's much better to spend your life telling jokes.

  • oops i watched the last one first

  • gotta love some david mitchell
