You're right, but Capoeira and Bruce Lee's "Economy of motion" are two VERY VERY different things. The only similarity they share is that they are both fucking awesome. :D
i wouldnt mind taking capo its got impressive moves and really good body strength plus doing all of that would make an attacker think twice before trying to hit you but if i wanted all around fighting i'd take some muay thai
No way Muay Thai. If you want to dominate Street Fights you'd better get yourselves some Grappling skills. Todays Capoeira is mainly a game, but you can practice it too be an effective martial art, too. Capoeira was born as a street fight. It had only simple and dirty techniques like headbutts and eye-stabbing and like today it was trainend in a game. A mestre once said: "Capoeira is not fighting directly. It is inviting your enemy for a drink and then hitting him with a bottle when he's drunk."
seriously though, will u really hav time to roll aorund on the floor like that in a street fight? go and learn some thai boxing and tae kwon do; the ultimate 'real' fight combination
TKD ru fucking serious? Ive takin it and it sucks. No hits to the head, leg etc. Plus the belt system is totally ineffective, youd be better off taking some other form of fighting. For self defense be well rounded, everything has a little bit to offer.
ps. its sorta hard to get close to someone if their legs are everywhere, dont bump it till you try it. O and capoiera was used for street fighting, very very effective.
Ya totally, you see it a lot in brazil, and it's starting to be incorporated a lot in the states now too. It just has to be clean and with the flow of the game, but usually you just wanna know it for defense.
oh ya totally, usually in capoeira though, you don't fight dirty, it's usually really friendly and really respectful, But grappleing is really good to know also, just in case things do get a little dirty.
You know what I noticed, it could be possible to incorporate the Dempsey Roll from Boxing into some capoiera moves along side with some savate thrust kicks.
AUf jeden Fall coole Kampfsportart! Mag die ganze Akrobatik in dem Stil; aber wie effektiv ist das ganze in einem echten Fight? Also so gegen Leute, die beim ersten Fehler zuschlagen?
I really enjoy your videos and I think you guys are well trained capoeiraista's.the only real problem I have with the video's is the music......why not real capoeira music, it is the most important part of the beautiful art,and it shows others who never seen capoeira the it is MUCH more then flashy kicks and flips.thanks
Thanks for the positive feeback. Well, the reason why we do not use traditional capoeira music in our videos is, that they are cut like music videos. They are highlight-videos. All toques are mixed within the videos. It would be wrong if we chose only one toque (e.g. São Bento Gr. de Bimba), because in the videos we also play Benguela, Iuna and Angola.
But don't worry, in the next video there will be absolutely more capoeira-like music (altough not traditonal) ;-)
@kibbleofdoom: where can I watch it? Well, I would say Capoeira is mainly good physical training. I'd say what makes the Capoeira effective are not the techniques, it's the malicia. Malicia means to stab your enemy in the back when he least expects it. There is no honor-code like in asian martial arts. It's simply mean and unfair. The whole game of Capoeira teaches you the malicia. In the game there are always lots of feints and tricks. You always must be aware of unfair attacks.
I love this video. The way the closeups were intercut with the fightscenes is nice. This video made me want to make my own video. This video will remain one of my favorites.

Actually Jackass Capoeira doesn't use up alot of stamina as long as you aren't doing ridiculous pointless moves.
GhettoNinjah 2 years ago 2
Nothing "uses up stamina" capoeira Builds stamina because to 'play' we ginga - perform continual movement during practice and fighting.
Ginga is part of capoeira whether one does "ridiculous pointless moves" or not
Personally I prefer doing these moves because they look sick but in actual fights i dont use them.

I was thinking... could some judo throws, choke holds and grapples be incorporated into capoiera as follow-thru's?

thats damn interesting because I see several oppurtunities (spelling?) to lash in with an elbow strike or a rear choke hold.
