@kerridowns1690 Google Click Ryder - it is a great horse training resource for clicker training. It helps if you are a little familiar with operant conditioning (I started doing this with my dog a long time ago - it's a lot easier with a dog to have them offer a behaviour but there are ways to get a horse to offer the behaviours that you want) - if not, I recommend scouring the internet for information or visiting a local dog trainer who does clicker work. It is a TON of fun!
you say she is also sullen, which tells me she has not been on a proper diet for a percheron for a long time (as you say in your description too)... perches fed right are very high energy and spirited! she still seems undermuscled despite your efforts, wanted to let you know after my experience with my mare and other perches, to watch out for emnd. (more so than epsm) the only way to get a diagnoses for either is through muscle biopsy, and can be life saving. would like to pm you if its cool
@rosskay Thanks for your input! Yes, I suspect she likely is purebred perch but missed out on the big growth years when she was undernourished before she came to me. This video is a bit older so she looks quite a bit different these days! Definitely still not as fit as she could be, but a large difference - she really blossomed in the last year. :)
@afatgirlafathorse on your comment about her being a pure bred perch and her missing out on her growth years, check out this video with two sets of percheron types : watch?v=ruXYOPXOnCo&feature=relmfu the grey horses are a farm type, and the black ones you see here are the hitch body type. Your mare is like the greys in this video, they don't get as big and high stepping the way people assocaite percheron should be these days. proportions are different. Many purebred perches are 15 hands!
Hello, you say your mare is of unknown origin, my experience tells me that she very well could be a purebred percheron. She has the older farm body type and is undermuscled. you would be amazed what a perch on a high protien diet will look in comparison to one that is not, people will mistaken them for crosses. Many associate the modern hitch body type as the standard pure bred percheron apperance, but it is not so... those are just the types that are hitting it big in the registries in the U.S
If you try just putting the treat in between her legs your will probs fine she will go down by her self, thats how i taugh mine to do it :) i wish i could teach mine to lift its legs :D x
@ankie13ful LOL Trust me, she's obese - perhaps not in this video, but in the last two years. :) Further, the title "A Fat Girl & A Fat Horse" is no kind of insult to my horse, it's the name of our website and blog. :)
@ashley5445 WOW...I feel sorry for you kiddo. Reality will hurt. Amanda and Bronwyn, love the tricks! Pay no attention to the 'man behind the curtain' (read: tweens behind the computer screens)
She looks like a Canadian horse (Cheval Canadien). Check out canadianhorselinks.ca to see what I mean. She's gorgeous. What a difference you have made to that animal. Wonderful.

YOU FAT COW, HOW DARE YOU MAKE A HORSE DO THAT!!!!
YOU CAN CAUSE A HORSE PERMANT DAMAGE BY FORCING THEM TO DO THAT!!!!! YOUR SUCH A ASTUPID FAT COW, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU CALL YOURSELF A HUMAN!!!! YOU NEVER DO THAT TO A HORSE!!!!!
@ashley5445 You're obviously very young and stupid. Bowing will not cause damage. Unless you're doing it on concrete, I suppose. And she was not forcing the horse. Forcing would be tying a rope around her leg and yanking on her, and with no reward. She politely asked for the bow and rewarded it.
And I hope when you hit puberty you gain a hell of a lot of weight and people are mean to you so you see how much that can hurt.
What I like most about your trick training method is that you don't force your horse to do something and that it can move freely without a lead rope. You are a cute team and it is great to see how well you two get on with each other :-)
Hey thanks, Marenlene. Bronwyn would not tolerate me forcing her to do things! LOL She's a pretty special girl and she has to do things on her own terms, in her own time, and the best way for me to interact with her is to give her choices - do this or don't do this, but if you do it, you get a big payoff. Bribery at it's finest. ;)
You are an inspiration!

What, specifically? Asking for the bow? Ask tons of equine entertainers how it affects their horses...? Hard to take you seriously. LOL!

@ashley5445 honey your mommy needs to monitor your computer usage until you're mature enough to handle the resonsibility 'all by yourself'...
Folks this is what happens when children are given computers and not looked after properly.
