people who are saying that they are recording old stuff that wasn't good enough to make it on there early albums, i think there is such great stuff that they didn't release, its not a rip off to the fans at all, and when i listen to them, it amazes me how good some of this old stuff was, a treat for real vh fans to hear it,
i really think tatoo aint a bad song, nothing great though, i really liked can't get this stuff no more, had a heavy groove to it, and dave's lyrics are great on that song,
Does anyone have a better recording of this track? This is one of the best unrecorded songs I've heard them do. The riff reminds me of Get the show on the Road from the Gene Simmons Demo with different lyrics of course. Would love to hear this on the new cd.
yeah homie thats obviously the case after listening to cuts like this. i've read in interviews that he listened to a lotta jazz fusion back in the day but i just thought it was BS until i heard this.
Edward is God. His rhythm playing is better than anyone else. Everyone always talks about his fast licks or his tapping but his rhythm playing is second to no one. Just listen to Beautiful Girls or Dance the Night Away, Pretty Woman to name a (very) few. INCREDIBLE sense of rhythm. His technique of muting and phrasing is amazing to say the least.
alot of these songs sound exactly like eachother... the only difference is the name of the song... but there are alot of good van halen songs dont get me wrong im just sayin that i've heard alot of songs that sound the same from VH

after all these years Eddies playing just seems to sound like a bunch of crazy sloppy blurbs then it's over, there's almost no purpose or feeling in his playing. just like a firecracker then it's over. he was unique, but certainly didn't deserve so much attention, and he's not the best player on earth that's for sure.
So what Van Halen had kick ass songs and badass riffs. Eddie may not be the greatest lead player on the planet, but he is one of the best rhythm players on the planet, thats for sure.
hey dude eddies rythmn playing is so underated, but he IS a fantastcic lead player, ed changed they way we look at guitar there is only 2 people who have done that
well you can't fix STUPID....lol not one soul has ever ridden the lightening since EVH......Vai and Satriani may have taken the original energy further, but Eddie was the ONLY person to have taken us beyond Hendrix.....Ronnie Montrose got close,(Eddie used the same sound engineer as Montrose...)....but Eddie found the magic! critique your feeble Kotex ass away......if you don't know, then you just don't know.
He didn't deserve attention? Well thats your opinion and clearly most people don't agree. Listen to the solo to Push Comes to Shove and tell me his playing has no direction or feeling.
man if you ask me the best stuff van halen did was the work in the clubs and in the demos they made 1974-1977.really rockin stuff.this sounds like light up the sky on vh 2.
Bullethead was reworked by John Norum into "Half Way Home" on his 1994 "Another Destination" album. An intro was added in the style of VH, lyrics changed, guitar solo screams as good as the original, but no credit was given to VH.
If VH does record a new album after the tour, then they should definitely re-record this song for the album. Goes right back to their original rock roots before sammy came and made them a mainstream band.
hey 5150, is there a studio version of this song? vhvideoman had one but someone said it was the atomic punks. was it on the "after zero" take? thanks bro, your awesome!!!!
Can you imagine if VH were signed in 1976? With tracks like this VH was way ahead of their time!! I like it when a band gets signed and we the fans grow up, develop and ride the journey with them. Those early VH fans that were there from the start during their party and club days share a common bond with example: The Beatles fans in the Cavern days in Liverpool!! That is one thing that is missing MOST with today's bands!
Everybody thinks they are way to cool to be standing and cheering some unknown acts. They just wait for the band wagon corporate bubble gum stooge to come along and make that their new idol phenomenon. No thanks, I still prefer to buy the WHOLE ALBUM and attend the shows than download some compressed digital trash!!
Holy crap! That was awesome. Man, I think it would have been awesome to see VH between 76 & 79 when they more in the smaller venues. Would have been intense shit! Other guitarists around this time must have shat themselves when they first heard Eddie. And the band is so damn tight - those pauses are hot. Damn it - someone build me a time machine, I wanna go see this.
Great shit! I started checkin this stuff out about 6 or 8 months ago. Between your stuff and VHvideoman1 it was like having a new VH album. What happened to Vhvideoman1 anyway? Any idea? Rock on fellow fans!
no idea bro, he reappears every now and then, but his stuff takes too long to make, according to what he says, and i guess he doesnt have enough time anymore.
The way he just disappeared I thought there might be some legal bs involved. Shit, Ed won't even let Mikey market his hot sauce thru any VH channels. Anyway, keep your stuff comin. Love it!Brings me waay back!
Their music is so far ahead of the music industry it's unbelievable!!!No band on the planet even comes close!!

Parts of "Bullethead" were used in "Light Up the Sky."
Note the tempo similarities, vocals, chord changes, guitar solos, and song durations (minus drum solos on both songs).
