  • whats this? miao dao? some look like jap techinques but more open minded. some look like the effective german longsword techiques.

  • Hey, do you have anything for the Guan/Kwan Dao?

  • @langying

sorry, not yet - we have many video plans, but not enough time :-))))

a weapon survey video is our "Weapons of Kung Fu"-Video

  • @EKOkoeln

question. Which methods do you use to make faster hits with the sword? I'm not a martial artist just a medieval reanactor.

  • @midian11

Train with heavy weapons, perform with light ones,

train with big movements, perform with smaller,

train your wrists for slapping techniques,

use your body (biomechanics) for the movements.

This is just a crash course... :-)))

  • It's interesting how similar many of those techniques are to those of the European longsword.

  • I'm ver impress by the girl, who fight with padded sword.

    Excelent.

  • 1:07 it might just be the quality but is that a girl or a guy?

  • @HaloLvl43Legit

    a guy

  • 1:38 PWND!

  • every thing you see here is also done in european sword fighting schools

oh by the way the girl is very good.

  • @NewZealfighter True. Krumphau in it's purest form at 0:28, Shietelhau at 0:39. There are only so many ways to wield a sword right.

  • Why train eastern MA when we have

    European MA?

  • @krullboll

these are only some examples for applications

you saw the repertoire of my videos?

  • @krullboll Why train in European MA when we have eastern? It's just a matter of preference, really. I've studied karate and now I'm learning WMA, and I enjoy them both.

  • @krullboll How about why not? What, is there some rule saying Europeans HAVE to practice European arts.

  • As Yesergrin commented a lot of these techniques are in fact very similar to those of the German masters or Italian school. The German teachers used to say that there is really only one way to handle a sword and I think this video definitely adds to that. Excellent work on both parts. Very good demonstration.

  • If you are interested in Chinese Historical Swordsmanship (i.e. Real Weight SOlid Wood Weapons), check out the Traditional Chinese Sword League, yearly tournaments for beginners & open. They award a real damascus sword to the National Champion each year.

  • This tournament is in China I guess?

  • there is very similar to german and italian half-hand tecniques

  • regardless id b afraid to boffer that chick

  • methinks the guy was letting the girl do whatever during the free teaser, he constantly just left himself open >_> One time, his strike was neither to defend himself or attack, asif he just swung for the sake of it >_> And if he really was trying, methinks he needs more practice :P not saying he wouldn't kick my ass though

  • It's like a speed and finesse cousin to a great claymore, and not as intended for armored combat, but definitely cool.

  • intense

  • 1:38 is really good, I like it. It looks like tachi-otoshi in some japanese sword styles. ;)

  • can you tell me the name of the chinese two handed sword of the video?

  • pinyin name is: shuang shou jian

  • it's an equivalent of Tang lang jian?

  • some mantis schools have special

"tang lang jian" with longer blade

  • The swords in the beginning looked like 汉剑 Han Jian? Do you guys have replicas of those two handed swords, or were those swords from Ming or Qing era? Also, do you guys practice shuang shou dao?

  • our replicas are very unspecific,

    just little work...

we use different kinds of shuang shou dao: executioner sabre (kan dao),

    southern sabre (nan dao)...

    planning some more videos...

  • Hi EKOkoeln, these sword videos are really fantastic, I'm very impressed at how all of the duelers also seem to be able to apply their technique in free fights! I've only learnt one form with some applications, I wish your school was in London where I could train more in this beautiful art! Where did the shifu learn the sword?

  • Thanks a lot for your comment.

Indeed it´s a long way from form to the transfer in freefight application.

One has to choose single techniques, apply different training modes in order to implement the technique in the freefight repertoire step by step.

Grandmaster is a 70years old Wudang Master; dedicated to the old school.

  • hey i did not know there were two handed swords in kung fu. i always thought they were those cunning light blades that bend alot, or the broadsword. are those some sort of han dynasty blades..i know those were longer

  • another great post! Keep them coming!

  • that was awesome! not often do you see kung fu sword application, much less free fight.

    good stuff.

i would love to see italian longsword go up against this. so similar, yet so different.

  • thanks a lot!

We did already fights with medieval weapon groups.

The results depend on weight of the weapons, rules, safeties, armours and many other parameters of swordfight.

    but... very interesting anyway!!!

  • sweet! i love crossing of boundaries in martial arts.

  • Yeah ! Top! :)

  • Great video!

It's really hard to find training/combat technique of the chinese straight sword

  • Thanks a lot!!!

Yes, one can see a lot of nice forms,

but noone seems to be really interested

    in using the techniques.

Traditional forms are made to be transferred to the application.

Imho this is a main difference to Modern Wu Shu.
