Vent with no ladder is grounds for some one getting killed or maimed. Been on a roof once myself and the roof failed only thing keep me out of the fire was a roof ladder.
Nice job on the roof vent. We vent the heck out of just about every structure fire we respond to. A roof and some ceiling sheet rock is pretty cheap to repair.
ever heard of positive pressure ventilation?? no need to cut a hole in the roof. wasted time and effort. keep a hoseline in, and fire up the fans, use additional hydraulic smoke ejection. tearing up a house for the looks and fun of it......................
All i can say is you guys have an hell of a team. I liked how the vent crews performed and even more how they spotted each other on the roof (and off the ladder)..
If you guys know some good vids to help with training aids for the Fire Schools their looking for some. Just say something ten times worse today. Was from the early 80's... Anyway.. if you got them the school wants them because their wanting to be able to show some more up-to-date vids to all these new guys coming through the course. Srry LA29pm wasn't meaning to be an ass but I am going through safety refresh and have to train the rest of the guys when I get back.
tell yuor instructor there have been several changes in the fire service in the past 25 years...you & your students are more than welcome to use any of these videos i have posted..if you need me to email you the files, send me a message.i will help you out!
You are a boot in the fire academy, not even a paid probationary firefighter yet, right? What I saw looked fine, they were on the roof cutting a hole, and there putting water on the fire! I can say this because I am a Firefighter for L.A. COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT, you guys blow my mind with these comments.
Lol... Taking it you didn't read Navy... I have been doing this job for 6 years already. I am a DOD Fire Fighter and we have to go back to school every so often. The comment about me being at school was mean that I am getting these comments from the text book... But I am sure you had that in mind when you made your choice to comment back with out watching the video because they didn't follow safety... Not sure how they do it in L.A. but "TEXT BOOK" says f/f safety first.
Good job on that wildland fire out there though. (If you had a hand in it.) You guys get a lot of calls out there and do a pretty dang good job dealing. Be safe out their and no hard feelings cuz I might see ya around.
thanks, anytime.... we cut holes here at my department just like that. that guy meant well, but we both know the text book goes out the window to an extent when u get to a actual fire.
i agree with you these guys were doing a good job and i would know this cause im a fireman but you get owlifes on youtube that are a holes and not fireman
Keep your Chief comments to your self when you get hired with a real Fire Department, they will black flag you in seconds if you are a rookie know it all, "I can say this" ??? what are you talking about?
... All I have to say is this Department needs to do some SERIOUS training. I can say that because I am at Louis F. Garland Fire Academy in Texas. So much for PPE and your Fire Fighters safety. To many people on the roof at one time and it wasn't even sounded. Then you just start ripping into the roof. Hope you guys do some training because you need it. Good job though with the scene control. Kept the looky lou's out.
sorry..i totally disagree! they did a textbook job of venting the roof & knocking the fire down..notice how the 1 f/f is holding onto the other f/f on the roof so he does not fall
Yes he was hold the guy but when your doing ventilation you need to be on something sound. Such as that ladder that is no where near them. And I am mainly talking about them not sounding that roof because I had a team fall while we where doing training at school. Thankfully for the safety lines we have to wear they didn't get hurt. Good eye though but they could have used some safety debriefing on that one for sure... Sorry I'm use to working safety when I first joined the Navy.
