  • Still my favourite James story, along with Warning.......Would like to find prints of the picture/s as they change.

  • Be funny if Jasper Carrott popped in.

  • This is how M. R. James stories work best. They were written to be read aloud. BBC Radio keep dramatising instead, ruining them in the process with bad explanatory dialogue. Tonight on BBC2 there was a terrible adaptation, BASED on "O whistle and I'll come to you." Cringeworthy, The writer had shoehorned his own ideas into James's story, lacking the courage to devise a wholly original plot himself, riding instead on the shoulders of a giant. No whistle, despite the title, but a ring instead!

  • This programme actually piqued an interest in James's stories, and ghost stories in general, when it was originally broadcast, and this one remains my favourite of his. Thanks for the upload, good quality too..

  • Thank you for uploading this! I watched this on TV a good few years ago, and it was scary then! Robert Powell is an exellent narrator!

  • I love you Robert!!!!!!!

A fan of you, Kitty van der Vegt.

  • I never expected to watch this again.

Robert Powell told the stories so well.

  • Very good! Thanks for the upload.

  • Pamfino- you are a woman after my own heart! I am a M R James fanatic! Thank you for posting this- haven't seen this since I was a child!

  • Thanks so much for sharing this TV classic.

For me Robert Powell presented the best of the M R James programmes shown at Christmas. 5/5
