@volmaniac992 I played music for a living for 20+ years, and have written about music for more than 40 years. So yes, I know quite a bit about music. The chord progressions are the same. Big whoop! At any given time, you can hear 5 songs on the radio that all use the same chord progression. Other than that, the songs are quite different and the messages are in no way the same. If you want to compare 'Express Yourself' to something that's similar, listen to "Respect Yourself".

If you can't tell the similarities in beat, tempo, orchestration, etc., then you've probably been writing 40 years of bad music. Somebody on here said they don't have the same "structure." lol - If you take verse 2 chorus 2 bridge of EY & overlay it with verse 1 chorus 1 bridge of BTW, it's exactly the same arrangement, just like you say. But Gaga hit fast forward on Madonna so it's all about tempo & pitch...You can tell when they put the words "chord progression" in your mouth that they don't know.

If they think about rhythm (or "beat"), pitch range, pitch intervals, pitch harmonics, (or "chords" in the same register right down to the same notes in the same octaves)....yawn...or lyricism, spoken word form, symmetry, drama (not to mention the obviously similar messages and they know it), they just get all irrational & emotional & runaway with their arms flailing. So do a lot of other songs. It doesn't make them identical, obviously, just as the Gaga and Madonna songs are not identical.
