  • I have the postcard that is at 2:28. Has the address of a really hot babe from Thomasville, NC that I never saw again. Ah, Labor Day weekend of 1966...

  • i grew up in myrtle beach and still here right now i first went there back in 2000 when i was less then 2 years old and went there until it closed down i have to many memories there and i still get sad looking at an empty lot with nothing but grass and a few trees it's just plain dumb to have destroyed it

  • Nothing like being @ Myrtle Beach back in the 1980s !

  • that beach has been home to so many one night stands.

  • I cant believe they took down the Pavilion. The good news is you can still ride some of the old rides, including the old carousel, motorcycles, dun buggies, little boats, and both pirate ships! They even got the old sign! Its all been moved to Broad Way at the Beach!

  • @E22Videos I remember going to the old pavilion when I was little!!! Good times, good times!!! I loved that pirate ship lol!

  • @JohnnyBear3 lol! it was great times for me!

  • i cant believe they tore it down. they said they were gonna build more hotels & stuff. but apparently not because all i see is grass & trees where all the fun used to be at. pisses me off. i was 15 when they tore it down & i didnt get to enjoy it enough. UGH

  • I was raised in my parents' motel on Ocean Blvd. Every year, my brothers & I got a season pass to the Pavilion for Christmas. We had to sweep the parking lot & walkways, clean the porches, the pool, & strip rooms for the maid. When we finished, we got 5.00 each to go to the Pavilion for the rest of the day. I drive by there every day of my life and it saddens me that my future children will never take a turn on the carousel, see our roof from the Rainbow, or lose a flipflop on the swings...

  • They totally skipped past my era (87-91). Probably because it was like Spring Break / Animal House every weekend. I was in the Marines @ LeJeune and me and "the boys" would road trip down there every weekend that we could. I don't remember us breaking things or hurting anyone, but we did have some good times. We were pretty rowdy and I know that they wanted to turn it back into a family place. Probably the nicest jail that I've ever "visited". It's heartbreaking to see the pavilion go.

  • i till this day pronounce it the PAV-ilon not the pa-vill-yan

  • enjoyed it. Wish I knew how to slow it down so I could enjoy looking at each picture even more. Thanks for the work you did creating this. I hate driving by there and seeing nothing--much of downtown is vacant while the lovely woods are disappearing.

  • @bj4451 Thanks for the comment

Just use the pause button in the lower left of viewing screen

  • Loved it!!! from a Myrtle Beach native! I hate that they took the pavilion down. Its downright depressing to go by that empty barren lot when i go home to see my mama and all my family!

  • @mawbell3 I remember riding the Corkscrew and the galaxy before they tore those out and put the hurricane and mad mouse in their place. Am I right in the name of the other roller coaster being the galaxy?

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

    LOVE,

    FOLLY BEACH GOER

  • nice video

  • The last time I went to Myrtle Beach was in the summer of 1995, and when we went to the Pavilion the only two roller coasters that I remember were the aqua blue corkscrew coaster and the red and white mini coaster. Whatever happened to the blue corkscrew coaster anyway?

  • FANTASTIC VIDEO! i have lived on this beach for the past 30 years and have seen that area change so much but your video shown me what was where before i was born. its still a bit sad to drive by there today and just see grass. same go for the old myrtle square mall.

  • Thanks for the comments

  • My father was stationed at MB Air Force Base in 1965 and I went to MB High School. During the summer I worked at the Fun Plaza giving out prizes and working the change booth. I also worked at Bell's Hamburgers. They had one on the beach and one at King's Highway. My brother worked at the Gay Dolphin Park. I have fond memories of MB and wish it was 1965 all over again. Did they tear down the Bell's on King's Highway? Also went to Socastee HS(1967) but father was sent to Austin, Tx so had to go.

  • i really liked this video, good job dude!

  • we all have freestyle music park now

and how come no body remebers that there's also family kingdom and myrtle waves family kingdom is just like the pavilion with the wooden coaster and everything

  • It's a shame to see the owners throw almost 100 years of history down the drain just because the park wasn't making them enough money. Greedy bastards!

  • It is quite a shame that they took down such a wonderful place. I lived and still do live very close. I hate it. I just hate it.

  • I been to Myrtle Beach 3 times, the last was in 2005. The Pavillion was such a great place. I didn't even realise it was gone. Why did they close it?

  • It was a combination of several things. The largest being the owners not making enough profit.

At one time the Pavilion was the only place to go but there is so much to see and do here now.

    Times have changed.

  • I guess this is part of the park we saw about 7 years ago.All I can remember is parking across the st from the water and going inside some old building to see a animated movie with seats that moved.Anyone know what I am talking about?I guess this was part of the park as I don't remember any of the other rides at all.

  • I think you were at Motion Master it is on the bvld about 1/2 block north from where the pavilion was.

  • I really don't remember the Pavilion.I do remember the malls and other famous places inc.some famous seafood restaurant near there right on the water.

  • That was the sea captains house. Great food

  • it's sad that something thats been around so long is gone now. now when I come to myrtle beach its not the same without the pavilion

  • unlike the first comment I am old enough to remember a good chunk of that, and it brought alot of fond memories back. Great video!!

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • wow. cathooker that was an awesome slideshow pal, im not quite old enough to remember back very far on most of those slides however ive been goin to myrtle beach twice a year for the last 10 or 11 years and i remember walkin the strip and smelling the food and hearing all the kids laughing and having a blast at the pavillion and standing up top by the teen club "The Attic" . but i was there for the farewell season and will always remember the pavillion !

  • Thanks for commenting Kickup be sure to watch my other MB slideshow videos.

  • thanks cathooker been goin to myrtle beach for 45 years stayed at the Roxxanne when i was a tyke in the 60s hung out at the pavilion as a highschooler in the 70s and 80s and took my kid to the pavilion before it was torn down . burroughs and chapin should burn in hell

  • I grew up at Myrtle Beach... graduated from the old Myrtle Beach High. My early teen summers were spent working at the ocean front bar and grill during the day ...worked as the projectionst at the gloria and the revoli movie theaters my last year of school and on the strip after work...what a great time to grow up in Myrtle Beach...Thanks for the memories cathooker 2

  • I remember getting in the Rivoli for ten Pepsi bottle caps for the Sat. morning shows. Oceanfront had some good pinball machines also baseball back then.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • i bet if we could have voted to keep the pavilion then it would still be here right now =(

  • Yes I'm sure of that. Sadly it was privately owned It should have been bought from B&c many years ago by the city. no matter the price. !!

  • Well, no one who has ever seen the Pavillion will forget it. Yeah, true, I saw bigger parks but this was part of what Myrtle Beach is all about. I don't see the locals standing for being without a new pavillion for much longer.

  • My family grew up working at the Fun Spot and hanging out at Sam's Corner in Garden City, and fishing/oystering in Murrells Inlet. The Grand Strand will always be home to me.

  • One of my first summer jobs was dipping ice cream cones inside the Pavilion in 1978. Saw Sugercreek play about 100 times LOL

Bumper to Bumper traffic. Hanging out on the deck watching cars go by hoping some girls would call you down for a ride.

  • Oh my hand dipped ice cream cones those were SOOO good 20+ flavors to choose from. A visit to the Pavilion was NOT complete unless there was one of your hand dipped cones to be had. Damn talking about it is making my mouth water i can smell them & taste them. Can you still name all the flavors?

  • that was an awesome video i miss that place soooo bad went there every year since i was 4 and i don't even live in SC! that last picture was a little depressing, i remember when we rode past it for the first time after the demolition, all that rubble, soo soo vey sad. :,(

  • The last photo I saw back in November last year. While I was looking at that a car cruised by with its stereo cranked up for that brief moment Pavilion Amusement Park came back to life. Could hear all the rides the German organ and the millions of voices including mine in that now vacant lot. Across the street there stood the Pavilion in all its glory WKZQ radio van parked there and the sonds of all the games & voices. After the car passed out of sight with its blaring stereo... silence.

  • I like that Yakey-Yakey Yat music. Reminds me of my teen life around 1958. Also the shot with the Merry Go Round. Had many happy moments riding the horses. Sure got a lot of sun burns on the beach near the Pavilion. Great memories! Thanks
