  • Mark Knopfler - ONE OF THE BEST!

  • That is such a timeless riff

  • ghtygoku [Sitting in front of 1/3 of the world's population and all Mark Knopfler can say is "Well,I hope I don't mess up"] sorry ghtygoku but Mr. Knopfler doesN't -sit. He has been GETting UP+GETting on with IT. He's NO uk BBC's jonathanRos who sitS lazily [makes millions @the expense of UK taxPayers (who R "FORCEd" 2 OVERpay him) while giving pleasureONLY 2 macho/frustrated/UNfunny so-called-"men" by offending English ladies/roses] Private Mark's a standingGENT, Ros is aFArT biased PublicCAT

  • I love it: "the picking, that's the only trick" now pardon me while i just screw around on this here guitar and blow your flipping mind.

  • Nicely put! :)

  • LOL! I agree, very well put!

  • Damn Great Band! Too bad they didn't make it big in North America, but they are still my favourite!

  • First album, top ten USA-Canada; "Sultans" top 10; "Industrial Disease", #1 in Canada; "Money for Nothing", #1 everywhere; "So Far Away", #7; "Brothers" album .... #1 and top ten for weeks and weeks. Sold-out NA tours in 79, 80, 85-86, 92 ...

Didn't make it big in North America? Uh, ok.

  • I mean, I have never met anyone that even knew about them...I went to the Mark Knopfler concert in Toronto and there were lots of seats still open.

  • Subjective reasoning, I guess. Knopfler of course isn't going to do as well solo (and I think he likes it that way). But, put yourself in 1978-92, and Dire Straits were everywhere.

Time passes. The North American market has A.D.D. anyway.

  • There are and were some discriminating Yanks who knew a good band when they see it. I've loved the music since Sultans. And I still follow everything MK does.

  • Yes! packed out Wembley arena for 13 nights, and I was at one of them. Awesome concert! Brothers in Arms had a 5 minute standing ovation.

  • sorry, meant to say thats what he used on the original recording ....

  • that guy playzzz.

  • Dire straits ruleZ

  • that les paul sounds awesome what effects? anyone know?

  • mate...theres no effects.

  • really? still that les paul sounds incredible

  • i know :)looks ok too.

  • He's using Overdrive and Andytotts right, Wahpedal on 3/4 and then there's some other effect, but I don't know what it is yet.

  • thanks

  • Pal, don't say there no effects. There's about two or three of them he's using here.

  • Of course there is, there's distortion.

  • Wah wah pedal was cocked 3 quarters when he played it.

  • I think may also have been a Les Paul jnr & a Laney Stack. That with some gated reverb put on at the desk afterwards.

  • DS and Mark are great. Still trying to figure out what's so great about Sting.

  • Here's your dunce hat, go stand in the corner...

  • hehe brian rocks behind charles at the end of the video:) and also that les paul sounds fantastic..

  • mark is simplythe best!!!!
