Damn this was my of my top 10 all time hip hop songs lmao...use to stay in Philly every summer by autumn ...ran thru packs of TDK/MAXELL/BASF tapes...niggas dont even know..."President and ruler of the lyrical land..editorial finest royal highness or ghetto...beat detonator apex is my level." WHATS FUCKIN WIT THAT!!! This was 87.SMH. Data translator..OMFG..niggas please stop it...please.LMAO. This back when they had the use "big words" craze in Philly..but niggas aint always know the meanin.ILL!
I got this song on a compilation CD full of Philly rappers. I enjoyed this song when I heard this because.........it was the first time I heard it a few years ago. Love it.
They are from Camden!!! My man Pooh and my boy Chase!!!! We used to chill on the corner of Marlton Pike & Baird Blvd @ The Studio "OutLaw Records". Sittin Back in the Twin Acura Coupes. EastSide Camden!!!! Acres Stand Up!!!! Jersey ALL Day!!! Chillin' with a Panzaratti on deck!!! If you ain't from CMD, you wouldn't know!!! Shout out to my Man'z: Little, G - Law, Rah, and all of the Willie Kids!!!
@MBOYA22 Make no mistake, The Krown Rulers are from East Camden, NJ. 32nd St. down. Pooh and Chase used to ride around the city blasting Kick the Ball. People often associate the Rulers with Tuff Crew, which leads to the assumption that, like Tuff Crew, the Rulers are from Philly, which just isn't the case.
@MBOYA22 Like most of these other cats told you Krown Rulers are mos deff from the CMD all day, I grew up with my dude Terryle (Grand Pubah) and Raj we rocked this actually the summer of 87 I think they ran the airwaves for weeks then the album dropped in 88' At that time it was beef with Steady and them cuz they said they bit their beat or whatever but this is a CMD Classic!
this is the shilly shit.,its fucked up how rappers today get more money, have more advance musical technology etc.,and the greatest hip hop music and artist will never get their true recognition.,and the Krown Rulers were underrated in their own time.
This did get alot of Play in the Philly/South Jersey area. Krown Rulers were from Camden New Jersey and were down with Tuff Crew from Philly. Paper Chase was the album. High and Mighty and Mos Def sampled the Krown Rulers song B-Boy Document
Man i've been looking for this song for the longest. I try to get people to remember this song but no one know's what i'm talking about. I'm glad you posted this.
I remember this song or at least the chorus line. I'm not sure how I do but I do. Was this the jam back in the day? Did it get alot of airplay or was it part of a soundtrack?
I think I know why it sounds familiar. I've been thinking about it and the chorus line sounds like a De la Soul skit called Take it Off ('88). I don't know how came up with it first, prolly these guys. Peace
@salgoud12 this song got alot of play. back in 87. IT was first a demo played on power 99 rap battle by LADY B. THE song was winning for weeks, so they got a deal then it got regular rotation, after it was put on vinyl.
@ANUPTAH Cool thanks for the info! Since my post Ive learned some more about this group. Even checked out their album Paper Chase which is also a dope track. I think it may have been more of an East Coast hit tho but I was too young to know what kinda radio play it got anyway.
@salgoud12 IT was mostly played in the TRI-STATE area(philly, south jersey, delaware) on a philadelphia radio station called POWER 99. BUT the momentum hit NYC and other parts of the EASTCOAST. THAT'S why DELASOUL did a skit on the "3 FOOT HIGH AND RISING" album called ''TAKE IT OFF''. late 87 to 88
