mitsurugi actually uses a korean swordfighting style called haidong gumdo. There should be a koeran swordfighter with misturugi's moveset, not japanese
@japantruthify001 Mitsurugi's moves are strongly Japanese-looking. Obviously they're exaggerated, but it's very easy to find legitimate Japanese techniques that look like his stuff. Many Korean sword styles are largely based off of Japanese styles, and haidong gumdo practitioners can often be seen using Japanese-style swords and clothing. So I think the similarities you're seeing are the result of Korean styles copying Japanese styles, not Mitsurugi copying haidong gumdo.

Playing Kilik in tournies, Mitsurugi is my worst matchup.
An aggressive Kilik is really bad for Ivy because she's slower than Kilik. If you can stay on the defensive and keep your distance (she out-damages Kilik at a range) then you'll maximize your chances of winning.

From the looks of it your best bet is to switch to straight sword and stick close to Mitsurugi. Mindset behind this is that you'll undoubtedly block-whore and Mitsurugi's recovery time from his attacks are faster than Ivy's whip attacks so he'll be able to block a whip counter attack....
@Iori400 ...but with the straight sword your recovery time from attacks is little to nothing and you hit Mitsurugi after blocking an attack as your attacks are faster than his recovery time. Take a look at the Hit/block data thread for Ivy on caliburforum to find the quickest moves. Youtube won't let me link the thread :\
This video reminds me how i used to play in Soul Calibur for Dreamcast, i haven't bothered checking how to do many of the moves seen in this video in Soul Calibur 4 but i know for sure it's way different than the first game and probably harder, i tend to fall into old habits unconsciously and it just screws things up ;D
Mitsurgi is okay. The only thing I dislike is the sheathing weapon moves. Every time I am doing online with misturgi, I accidently put my sword away and I get pwn3d.
@Jester24680 When you get to know his moves, the Relic stance (sword sheathed) is actually a crucial part of his game. From that stance, you can: 1) do a FAST tracking sidestepping mid, 2) auto-impact mids, 3) do a fast guard break, 4) kick low, 5) play mind games with two kinds of unblockables, including a TRACKING unblockable. Mix with stance shifts and combos and it's very useful.
nice stuff ive used a lot of those moves and didnt know that some of that stuff was comboable if it hit...kinda makes me want to touch sc4 again and practice some lol
@syxx573 Fact proven by my repeated plays of him and also a testament from the SoulCalibur Wiki that Mitsurugi's style is one of the easiest, fastest and strongest but also has a limited number of combos and attacks available which sadly makes him easier than some others to counter or defend against.
Yeah the combos are basic...but like i said it's a road map. Basically this video gives out ideas. This is why it's the best to watch. syxx is nice to show some skills

it's ok. I don't sweat when people get mad at me. they'll send me messages calling me scared to play them but I don't have the time or want to explain to every person how the connection quality works in this game. so I just block them most of the time.

I've also beat people win 85% averages online and they sucked.

That's interesting. My roommate and I play all the time (we don't have online for the console), and we've determined Raphael to be the best character overall - we figured he'd be pretty popular online. Along with Cervantes...
well they released a patch for the game. If you haven't been online then you probably don't have it. But before they patched it, Raphael was pretty strong because of many things including his BB,which couldn't be side stepped.
I'm almost at a 76% only using mitsurugi and at level 196 now on the scoreboards. I like the combos and I can do the majorty of them except the complicated wall combos which is a lot to do for such a little bit of health to take out of someone. I have a couple he's not made up yet if anyone's interested. I livei in tokyo though so I can only play people from the west coast of america and parts of asia.

Soul Calibur is as techinical as Virtua Fighter, but I just can't get into it for some reason. Memorizing the moves may be my main problem, since it seems harder than it should be, and the just frame shit gets on my nerves sometimes, specifically those that require psychic powers or something.
yeh i see what your sayin about learnin moves it is slightly harder cuz the moves in sc4 are split into different section and u have to keep on pressin l1 and r1 to go accross which does make it alot more longer to learn moves espically wth characters who have different stances and the moves that get into them
Maxi probably has the longest learning curve. Ivy and Voldo may be afterwards. At least they reduced the moves in Voldo's arsenal in SC4. Just sucks that you can't change the sword right away with Ivy without having to do at least one move first.

Actually, imo, it's faaaaaaaarrr better than tekken, this game is a lot faster and has many more moves... and street fighter... I prefer SC too... but in this case I wouldn't say it's better, they're just very different.... one is more like combos and good covering.. and the other one is all about special attacks :P Still... SC = must have.
obviously gym wasnt around back then but because of their training their muscles would develop..not as a body builder type as what we could see now a days but a warrior type of muscles...lol
Samurai aren't really that ripped. Neither were Knights. Huge frame, perhaps, but toned, muscular bodies are very rare. You don't need to lift weights to be muscular. Tony Jaa doesn't lift weights but muscular as hell.

I'm almost at a 76% only using mitsurugi and at level 196 now on the scoreboards. I like the combos and I can do the majorty of them except the complicated wall combos which is a lot to do for such a little bit of health to take out of someone. I have a couple he's not made up yet if anyone's interested. I livei in tokyo though so I can only play people from the west coast of america and parts of asia.

Soul Calibur is as techinical as Virtua Fighter, but I just can't get into it for some reason. Memorizing the moves may be my main problem, since it seems harder than it should be, and the just frame shit gets on my nerves sometimes, specifically those that require psychic powers or something.

yeh i see what your sayin about learnin moves it is slightly harder cuz the moves in sc4 are split into different section and u have to keep on pressin l1 and r1 to go accross which does make it alot more longer to learn moves espically wth characters who have different stances and the moves that get into them

Maxi probably has the longest learning curve. Ivy and Voldo may be afterwards. At least they reduced the moves in Voldo's arsenal in SC4. Just sucks that you can't change the sword right away with Ivy without having to do at least one move first.

Yeah many ppl play, but the first times it's kinda stressing cause of the delay.. (compared to playing on the same screen with a friend...).
Actually, imo, it's faaaaaaaarrr better than tekken, this game is a lot faster and has many more moves... and street fighter... I prefer SC too... but in this case I wouldn't say it's better, they're just very different.... one is more like combos and good covering.. and the other one is all about special attacks :P Still... SC = must have.

What are the notations? Soul Calibur's seem to be the most bullshit for the directional input.

A = horizontal Attack
B= vertical Attack
K= kick
G=guard
aB=Slideinput
[x]=Hold input (x can be A,B,K,G or direction)
1-9=directions according to the numbers on the numpad
Ryu's Fireballmotion (without the button press) would be 236, for example.
Additionally you have a few characterspecific notation, e.g. MST and RLC for Mitsurugis Mist and Relic stances.

Samurai aren't really that ripped. Neither were Knights. Huge frame, perhaps, but toned, muscular bodies are very rare. You don't need to lift weights to be muscular. Tony Jaa doesn't lift weights but muscular as hell.
