does anyone under 30 hate the new BSG? I just gotta ask cause I watched the 1st series when I was a kid and really grew out of it. I didn't watch the new show because of that and only got into it around season 3 and was addicted and LOVED the new show. Believe it or not. I know, that sounds odd. But I gotta ask, does anyone under 30 agree with loving the old series over the new? It seems so campy. Not being negative or combative, I just calls them as I sees them.
I'm glad they're doing a new theatrical film now, with director Brian Singer at the helm. Since it's based on the classic BSG storyline, I hope it'll be as fun as Hatch's proposed renewal.
It's a shame that this verion didn't happen. It feels like Battlestar Galactica. Ron Moore's re-imagined started off great then 3/4 of season 3 and season 4 was total CRAP! I would have far and away rather seen this version have happened...
I love the remake. I also grew up loving the original BSG. I think this would have been a great film or series. Anything that washes away the bad taste of BSG:1980!
Boy oh boy, what is the matter Universal? There is a huge following of fans? What about future length film instead? If movies like Terminator Salvation can keep milking the Terminator series going, why can't the same be done for BSG?
I think he better give up.Universal Studios would much rather give money to Ron Moore than they did Glen Larson and Richard who finance The Second Coming with his own money.I am not a fan of Moore's version and he was the one who wrote the Star Trek movie where Kirk is killed. He confessed he was never a Battlestar Galactica fan in the first place.Hopefully Universal Studios will change their minds in the future.
@pdtst1 They do have a movie planned but it ignores Richard Hatch's idea. I believe the studio wants it to the "their" idea. The one mistake, and it was a huge one, that Hatch made was not contacting Universal. I believe that they will never use his idea because he didn't involve them. They will throw a good idea away just to be the big dog. The big dog barks the loudest even though it might bark in the wrong direction.
I admire his passion for the show. And it would've happened if they could've sold the show to a network - the rights issue is sort of small, 'cause i'm sure he had the blessing of gary larson...
Actually he did NOT have Glen Larsons blessing, if I remember right, he sued Hatch. I know it went to court over who had the right to do the new movie/series, and UNFORTUNATELY Larson won, and as a result we got this CRAP of a remake, instead of Richards version.
@bananaramamark While I enjoyed the re-imagined series as a sci-fi show, but I still love the original or BSG TOS better - no matter how campy or hippy the current or future generations may see it... It was fun and serious - never took itself seriously, yet delivered great moments and influences.
@Tigadee00 The new series did have it's moments, great special effects. But I thought it was too dark, very slow, and boring characters. Poor casting I thought, did not like any of the main actors, but I know they mainly went with unknowns to keep the costs down. The only episodes I enjoyed were with Pegasus. But I did watch it from start to finish. But Caprica, only made it through the first 2 episodes,...no wonder it was cancelled. I hope the 2012 Galactica movie is better, and the new series.
@bananaramamark Gotta agree with ya. How firm is the news on the BSG 2012 movie? New series? Really? That'd be awesome! I don't care if they use unknowns but as long as it stayed true to the spirit of the original series. A good show doesn;t need hard drinking, hard sex, or hard to understand characters or plots. I don't mind long story arcs either... I think towards the end of the series, the original also had some multi-episode story arcs that were quite intriging, but just don't go overboard!
@Tigadee00 The new series, was confirmed right after Caprica was cancelled. I forget the name of it. It's about 10 years after Caprica if I remember correctly. They are actually thinking of doing another spin off too. I believe the new series was set for the 2011/2112 season, probably late fall or early winter my guess. It's sy fy that is doing it. As for the movie, it is a Glen Larson movie based on TOS, and it was confirmed about a year ago for 2012, but who knows if it is on schedule.
@bananaramamark Actually, although Hatch's project looks interesting, it looks a lot less developed, interesting, mature, modern and thought-provoking than the new BSG that was actually made.
@teainthesahara : You have a point, but the new BSG and old BSG are completely different beasts - BSG '78 is firm rooted in the 'Space Opera' tradition of Sci-Fi; maturity and thought-provoking *isn't* even on the resume, but rough-and-ready adventure was. We're talking the old school, "Pulp" Sci-fi of Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers - heck, even John Carter of Mars. Hatch's project is more in keeping with this tradition, even if it's concepts hailed from another era. BSG '02 had other goals in mind.

I just love Richard. He's such a fun guy and good actor.
I really like the new series, but it got a bit odd sometimes in the last season.
the ending was kinda ok, although I'd have loved to see a bit more of the ending.
Also it was a bit silly to just send the ships away.
the old series was fun too, unfortunately they ended it too soon too without reaching earth afaik.
