  • Wow - it's been a while since I wrote that comment :P

No, I'm just a server administrator at a mid-sized company in Alabama.

  • One of the most amazing inventions in the musical instrument world for the last 50 years!

  • I want one

  • @donniej39 yeah it cost just 9500 euro :D buy it :D

  • The Music of the Future now! Cool!

  • I died. This is awesome!!

  • Learning curve = Forever

  • how much?

  • Want to play too

  • Aphex twin's new toy.

  • I came

  • The implications of this have really and truly nothing to do with the transmission of sound. Yes, sure, it makes a great DJ tool. But think bigger than that, this hints at the technology necessary to "visibly" move an object - in this case sound - from point A to point B and make changes in between those two points.

Technology like this could be used in the information management industry, medical sector, and communication sector, with further development.

  • @apoythress

and what are you ? ( serious question) some doctor ?

  • Theramin 2.0

  • Nice idea, but honestly, impractical as hell.

  • Nice DJ tool! It seems to be very versatile and yet I don't think anyone really knows its capacity at this moment. I want rub my harry balls all over that table.

  • I don't have much respect for DJ's. Maybe I'll have more respect for RJs.

  • jazzmutant lemur is so much cooler

  • thank u jesus :-)

what the fuck is this thing... can i get one for christmas? :-))

  • great stuff! I would love to have something like this

  • If they say this thing one day, millions of people will get addicted to it lol :D

  • YO QUIERO UNO!!!=:::::....(

  • poez ahorra weii

  • Great gadget!!

what if you lost one of them!!

  • Wow. great Gadget!!

What if you lost one od those ;)

  • the possibilities for trance and techno are making my ears water already...... i want one but then again who would not... i mean really - it is the coolest thing i have ever seen

  • is it possible to buy one?

  • i want asimulator for computer...that would be awsome

  • kamenomagic

that would pretty much make NO sense at all. there are LOTS of modular synths for PC.

  • dj's that can make good sets on this will make millions :) the visual effect and you see the dj making the music will blow ppl mind out :)

  • That is amazing stuff !, this could be incorperated into electrical testing devices for measuring or setting frequencys easily.

  • Amazing, its like an alien spacecraft's dashboard!

  • nice i think apple might have either helped them or gave them an example since they are pretty much pioneering the touch screen based interfaces and then the rest is just pretty much like a synthesizer.

  • 0/10

  • fucking moron its an instrument that came from directrly from heaven :D

  • MIGHTY

  • and who the f*ck wants to make millons from it?

f*ck the millitary and f*ck microsoft

However, both of them surely may have tech 20 times more sofisticated

    buuu!

  • ABSOLUTELY no way that students built this piece of high-tech.. though they know how to explain how it works. Amazing device!

  • Fuckin unbelievable. I want one of these now! haha

  • terrible me encnatan esos sonidos ademas

  • Se Lo Dieron a Bjork Pero Creo q Seria Mejor Cn Linkin Park

  • It's interesting, and it looks cool. Not really useful though, apart from giving gigs a bit of an edge.. pretty much every sound there can be done with a reasonably endowed synthesiser, and probably more easily controlled as well.

  • this is a very powerful pice of technolegy but the idiots just threw it on music they could make milions on it if they would sell it to microsoft or the military or something like that and the music is crap

  • and who the f*ck wants to make millons from it?

f*ck the millitary and f*ck microsoft

However, both of them surely may have tech 20 times more sofisticated

    buuu!

  • its the principal of this,, not the sound..

  • thats weird bt the music is shit!!!

    throw it away!

  • Kommst du aus Deutschland? :)

    Nice table

  • Esta maravilla parece magia. No cabe duda.

  • this is fuckn amazing but isn't it hard to control and synchronize perfectly? its too experimental for now imho.

  • Dude, I'm actually blown away by this, and I dont give a shit about anything.

  • how can i get 1

  • Interesting fact- the mouth and anus of a leech are the same thing

  • lol, me next! a pigs penis is actually shaped like a corkscrew

  • my turn! Fleas have split penises. They're shaped like Y's (like a snake's tongue)

  • OMG! i want one of these. I saw Bjork use this in concert and I was totally mezmurized by the sounds it made and how visually interresting it was to watch the performer use it. Thanks for posting

  • Catalan people are smart

  • it's useless for your dumb mind because you probably think this is for watching porn or something

  • Microsoft Surface is way more useful. Who cares about a stupid table that just makes noises ?

Being able to use Google Maps Service, to transfer and share Photos, MP3s and Videos, ... Microsoft Surface is actually a concept for the futures Multimedia Houses. It also has a lot of applications in shopping, etc ...

  • i dont think this guy gets it ...lol

  • It's only a matter of time until someone masters the Reactable and creates a symphony on it. To those who say it just makes noise... Well, so does an electric guitar or violin or saxophone if you don't know how to play it. This is still very new. Most of the concert videos are of people just playing around or experimenting. I've heard someone with talent and experience play Bach on a Theramin and it was exquisite. Just wait.

  • tru that!!!

  • Many musicians do care about that "stupid table that just majes noises". Reactable and surface are two completely different things, i dont think you're gonna be in an airport using the reactable, or in a music exposition transfering photos from your phone ¬¬

  • your chat is rubbish.

  • This is superb.

  • i would apply this thing in audio engieneer schools. its very good for understanding the signal flow and synthesis and easy....

  • This has nothing impressive, it's moreless a copy of Microsoft Surface, or even something really crappy at the software point.

  • you know SHIT bout you talking, this is based on a new technology called multi-touch interface design...

  • Wow... did you even WATCH the video, and see what it does?

  • Yes I did, and whereas Microsoft Surface impresses me, that pack of crap doesn't even make me laugh.

  • Yes, I agree if anything MS does impresses leech, then leech is clearly just an idiot. MS has NEVER had an original idea. EVER. Even Win 3.1 was based on Mac's interface, and they've been stealing free and proprietary ideas from Mac and linux, and linux ever since to make their money.

  • OK, get back to your prejudices.

Mac has NEVER had an original idea either. They "stole" the GUI-concept and also the Mouse to Xerox, and nearly everything that is new in Mac OS with Leopard comes from Linux (Exposé in Tiger, as well).

  • Exactly. Linux for teh win!

  • What are you gonna say now ? "It's becoming easier, in a few time everybody will run it because all the enterprises will support it as they support Windows now !"

Come on, you guys were saying that 10 years ago as well.

  • ... and it's HAPPENING. over 75% of the world's supercomputers are running *nix. Dell has signed with Ubuntu. Even MS THEMSELVES are scrambling to sign deals with whatever linux companies will lower themselves to doing business with the devil.

Meanwhile, the enormous body of open source contributors has enabled linux to catch up with the big dogs, and are now equal or better in all regards. Even Win games can now be played on linux. 3D desktops, more secure servers, thousands of free apps..

  • Linux will not win by being running on supercomputers. I hope I don't have to explain why, since you must be smart enough.

Dell has signed with Ubuntu ? Lol, that's just to be proposing open-source things, nobody buys those PC's and they are kinda hiden somewhere on their website.

Win games on Nux ? Lol, once again lol. Wine ? That works like shit, and there hasn't been any interesting Open GL game for years.

  • No, leech, linux will win by having many many times more programmers working on it, than the alternative, closed source companies. Linux will win because of the genius of the "copyleft"/GPL license.

I can't find sales figures for the Dell Ubuntus, but despite not making it available on their top models, they've still extended the program from being US-only into France, Germany, and the UK, so considering the lack of marketing, and the unavailability of top-end models, that's pretty good.

  • Also, leech, wineX works fine on games scripted right. The closed source model makes for inefficient code. Case in point, while MOHAA works beautifully, when they extended the code for MOHAAS, it will glitch a LITTLE bit under WineX or Cedega.

Still, I install linux and have 1000's of choices of free apps to add to my productivity and enjoyment. And that's the real added value of open source. Not just the $ you save on OS, but the staggering array of progs one can use once in the OSS world.

  • You can't even compare this to that Microsoft comedy club.

  • Let me see ... Running Debian Linux (or even Ubuntu), against everything that comes from Microsoft. Is that you ?

    Oh my god, yes !

  • ohh shitt

  • WOW! Björk coulkd you get me one? hehehe so funny!electric Yeah! :D

  • allucinante

  • i want one. :). Bjork could you buy me one please? :)

  • I want one for my kids!!!

  • Very cool!!

  • you need a freaking physics degree to use this thing

  • Have you considered given this shit to Tom Yorke?

Maybe he can take something out of this useful noise machine!...

  • hahahahahhahahahhahaa yorke would make wonders whith this stuff

  • oh my god, technology

ps: i'm french and would like to meet people to share my passion

  • FAT!

  • coool!!!!!!!

  • wow, reactable spanish!!!!!!!!!

  • The "Tonalizer" (the hexagonal piece) needs work to be useable for real music.

The reacTable as an easy and creative way to control the internal modular sound generator (synth) but you'll still need a regular keyboard (or the virtual image of it on the table) to make real music (i.e. to play notes) in real-time.

One cool use of this technology (reacTIvision) is the way we now can make an expandable MIDI Surface Controller (multi-knobs) out of cheap webcams :D

  • Actually, I was reading up on the Reactable main site, and you need a pretty damn expensive video camera to have it accurate enough to read the patterns on the bottom of the objects correctly.

  • It all depends on the actual surface area you want to have.

I've built a mini reacTable'ish MIDI surface controller with a very cheap webcam, some infra-red LEDs (to improve the patterns image without "blinding" the user), a plastic flat surface and reacTIVision software.

  • This is the creative edge humans need to make live performance and and improvisation matter over whatever a computer can spit out.

Any idiot can make a 1,4,5 chord progression sound great, but this; this has me excited.

    I want one, maybe two

  • This is shit is a shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yea man why don't we cut off our genitals why we are at it! I mean most people have two, maybe even three at most!

  • for now its just a cool toy, he dindt make any real music with it, its not practical, to expensive, and why bother with the cubes and the surface on the table, when you can do the same thing on a computer, where the surface of the table and the number of pieces will not be limitting your creativity

  • For that matter, why ever play a guitar, where the number of strings limits your creativity. Same problem with drum sets - hell, even keyboards have only 88 keys at most.

This is an awesome experiment. Get your head out of your behind.

  • yeah it is an awesome experiment, but the instrument its in its infancy, only after a few years of development it might stand a chance against an electric guitar, theres still a long time till we will see bands plaing the reacTable

  • Bjork is touring with one

  • What people don't understand is that this is not meant (atleast from what I have seen) to replace any instruments. It is simply an instrument that adds a new element to things.

  • i want one

  • this is just the beginning of this thing. the potential for what you could do with this technology is insane.

  • in the last 2 minutes i think the interviewer killed himself... he is not saying anything(like he knows what to say) He is like "Ah, Yes, Got it ,Ohhh..." :P

  • you can't blame the guy. he's obviously completely perplexed by this thing. and man, you would be too. xDDD

  • this the instrument of the future

  • me and my band need one sooo bad were can we get it

  • on the official site, but you`d better build one yourself

  • This is THE SICKEST instrument I have ever seen! This is simply mindblowing.

  • i bet the guy doing the interview is all like, "yeah, wtf?" haha

  • LOL!!!! (i thought the same)

  • thats the perfect toy to play on LSD lol

  • its a very kool invention. but can you actually play it?

  • Innovation !!! Check this crazy dope instrument. This is the future!!!

    We have no future :)

  • awesome!!!!!!!

  • ITS LIKE A CONTEMPORARY MAX MSP

    NICE

  • quina passada!!! Aixó es una canya!!! Segur segur que sera la musica del futur... Es revolucionari.

  • me enamore 0.0 quiero una de esas cuanto cuestan y donde mierda puedo comprar una?????

  • oohhhh ,thats a dream

  • does it have a jack-output or built-in speakers :)

  • need it ^^

  • So...nice the ameazing idea...but what it really do?

    What the meannig? the propouse?

  • making music?

  • awesome How much s that gonna cost or rent?

  • i can't watch it.. it just gets stuck on "loading..."

    :(

  • where can i get one ?

  • dude awkward german accent

  • kinda cool lookin

  • this thing is beautiful

  • The brilliance of this thing is that it's User Interface is NOT a bunch of Menus and Parameters. It's instant access to the most intimate details of the sounds through the User Interface of shapes - something even a baby can grasp. An intuitive understanding of this beautiful instrument could be developed in NO time !

  • I'm ALREADY one with it. It's also THE dance club mix machine of the future. It can be played by a DJ or played by groups. It's a musical micronet! It's brilliant ! Brilliant ! Pure genius !

  • do you have one??? cool , where did you buy it?, and one question: can you make those module cubes with samples of your own???

  • Wow, I just got this comment. No, I don't have one, but I wish I did. It appears possible to make your own modules, as it is the SHAPE which communicates which sub-routine (waveform, filter, etc..) to run in the computer. The screen is a touch-screen, of course, and as long as your shapes are in the computer's library, it will combine them in the ways your shapes describe. The samples are loaded, and assigned to user-defined shapes. It's pure genius!

  • No, it's not a touch screen, and the shapes do not communicate anything to the computer. There is a video camera under the table that recognizes the "amoeba" patterns on the objects. Look for videos by the developer, marcosalonso, and follow the link in the description to go to the home page.

  • Oh, hey - I appreciate this CORRECTION, as I was left to speculation. I love to understand the ACTUAL technical details of things, but haven't had the time to follow all the links! I had assumed it was a touch screen because I regular work with them, and it's operation appears the same, i.e. control of parameters with the tip of the finger, like the "mute" function. Thanks!

  • just great!

  • Nice, realy nice! I wonder how this works

  • perfect

  • how does it work?>??

  • Have you considered using your reactable as a creative element at "The Melon Inc."? Click my link to find out more.

  • Jean Michel Jarre will love it :P

  • :D hehehe Yes Love it...

  • I'm sure a dj could use it with a given amount of practice. At the end of the video, you could tell it was starting to take on a beat and almost song-like quality, so this may not be too far off. It may require one for percussion, one for harmony, and so forth for it to work.

  • This is the future. Totally.... Ic an't wait to see it purchasable :o

  • (youse)excuse the spelling i meant "use".

  • You CAN play it. There´s a pitch function, so...

  • Except you have to go through every other note to reach that pitch. Hardly playing.

  • they play theremins like that

  • This is not future - this is a toy. You can only make noise, but you can't play it. Keyboard synths forever!!!

  • they are researching, they said the same about "real keyboard synths" in the early 20th century. You are like those conservative people that get attached to what they know, and think everything else sucks. and i think you can play it like a theremin

  • DJ maybe will use it: it's flashy and it makes cool noises. But I don't see keyboardists use it and play solos with it. I have this thing called synth solo D-beam on my synth - and It suck IMHO

  • I don't see a DJ using it, it doesn't have tempo control, I see it as an experiment, not everything has to be functional at first you know, that's how progress is made; your beloved keyboard synths went through a period of experimenting with trial and error, and during that time many people didn't see them as a serious instrument. (by the way: a -beam is nothing like this)
