Initially, I had gotten a Japanese Wii to play the Gradius games that North America didn't have back when Gradius Rebirth was released in Japan, but I sold it off since Gradius Rebirth came to North America, and I have a TurboGrafx and TurboGrafx CD to play the ports of Gradius, Salamander and Gradius II for the TurboGrafx(although I have to rely on the Virtual Console for Gradius II because I don't have a Super System Card and my TurboGrafx CD is broken).
Ermm... Let me guess, you weren't expecting the volcanoes to erupt because you went through the snowy version of the level first, right? If so, then the Iron Maiden's not being there was probably a big surprise...
The snowy version was the one I was most used to, so I was not expecting the volcanoes to erupt.
Just as a word of note, I will be making a "Take 2" of this Gaming Session since I've got the English version on my Wii(remember that this was recorded off a Japanese Wii I no longer have) and was unable to show the storyline since it's ENTIRELY in Japanese on the Japanese version of Gradius Rebirth.
The game's storyline takes place two years before the events of Nemesis II (or Nemesis '90 Kai, if you will). This game is apparently a tribute to the Gradius MSX series, based on the appearance of James Barton, Dr. Venom, and Gaudi (from Nemesis III), Weapon Types D and E being the Metalion, and with some of the Nemesis MSX tunes as part of the game's music.
Also, the Stage 2 boss resembles Crawler from Nemesis (Game Boy), with different attacks, hence the reason I nicknamed it Crawler X.
They're called Zubs
