@SuperFlamethrower1 City of London police is a seperate force to the Met they are financed seperatley and have their own commisioner and City police ONLY POLICE AND PATROL the City of London.

In effect they are the City of Londons own police force.

They wear red chequered bands on thier hats as oppossed to the black adn white used by the Met

I have seen both a gun metal grey unmarked Skoda Octavia VRS and a black Ford Mondeo ST 220 here in Birmingham.

I have seen a silver unmarked Audi S8? on a run with lights and sirens going.

This was in Kings Heath along the High Street.

Those redl ights are used to warn traffic of a road hazard / make them be careful / slow down, right?

Hi there.

The letters are just force names, in short-hand. MET = Metropolitan Police Service. In some cases is also expressed as MPS.

COL = City of London Police, a force that operates within Central London, alongside the Met police.

This is done with all forces, for example Hertfordshire Police, would often be called HERTS Police, just to save letters :).

no, we don't. It just happens that quite a few officers are actually enthusiasts themselves.

fool norflundaan. If you are a police you shouldnt be saying that, the police should be kind and treat every non criminal in the community. Yeah most officer's are only happy to show their stuff, they find it nice someone has that interest so that they can show them. In fact, every police officer ive ever meet, has at least heard of one company that sells emergency equipment and knows somewhat what their lights are.

I was behind an unmarked silver Renault Megane last week. I never realised it was an umarked police car for a while, then I clocked the two short aerials near the cars rear tailgate and the driver was wearing what looked like a black flak jacket.

I have seen a Skoda Octavia VRS marked police patrol car that I have seen several times here in Birmingham. It's quite hard to spot because it doesn't have the battenburg livery, more a silvery colour but it's not unmarked so it has police transfers on the car, the lightbar and a number of short aerials on the roof.

Both really, the first is a response car of the Metropolitan police, and the other is from the City of London police. Both different lightbars, the rear car has the reds on, which are used to warn traffic behind of the incident, the front car just has the normal lights on.

Yes thats right, the astra just has its blue lights on and the skoda has its rear reds on. The Astra in front though, is not MET, its city of london police.

Why would people laugh? Anyone with an ounce of sense knows that Skoda make good cars these days, they're in the same league as VW/Seat in terms of quality.

Skoda's are now just VW chassis with different bodys on them. Take the Fabia, its just a Polo with a different body.

setra your wrong, skoda is indeed owned by volkswagen and share some of the same features as vw, but its like dacia and renault, skoda is the cheap company vw use to gain a little extra cash. Now they just use sort of "leftovers" and outdated chassis on skodas, to make them cheap and terrible quality. so the difference is big. the only big similarity between the vrs and vw is that it uses the tfsi engine mounted in a golf gti. thanks

nope thats bollocks, the Fabia and the polo use exactly the same chassis, the reason why after market parts are the same for the polo and the fabia. Maybe do some research before you start slagging a make of car off.
