I've been looking for a way for my band to run backing tracks live without having to have a laptop on stage. Would this perhaps be an appropriate means to do that?
I've just bought one of these, but I can't import a wav file from the SD card into the Roland. The song is definitely on the card but won't load up. Any advice from anyone would be gladly received.
thanks, this was probably the most to-the-point demo on this unit i've seen so far, most of the vids on here for it seem to just be knob-twiddling demos using the on-board demos or people jamming with the machine and not demonstrating the various features (in any depth) on the machine itself.
@Jagstang100 yea just gotta bring your own samples into it, that is the default patches that come with it. plug a guitar right into the external mic input and presto =p
can i load on each button a sound. like a bass line or other sound (one shot).a sound for 8 bars? can i load in sd card? how many minutes have to sample?
@ 4:01 he says you can put your own samples on it which u can do with the editor (software im assuming) that comes with it. But how can you transfer samples when there is no USB connection. Someone please explain this to me. thanks
@iamanalogaudio i bought and 8 gig Transcend SD card but i think it is not compatible with my SP 404SX. can u recommend a card to me that you have used and works. thanks
I purchased an 404sx a few weeks ago and im trying to capture loops perfectly but cant figure out how to do so. On the sp 555 there's a metronome along with the ability to capture loops in 1,2 or 4 measures. Is there a way to set the measure length so I dont have to manually hit record to start and stop a loop capture? Also is there a metronome? If you could help thanks.
so you need a midi usb interface....that suxs, that's for adapting old tech, and this is new tech, well there's something awkward about this whole thing. and also only 1gb ? so this IS old tech... but the sp 555 is twice as big as this =/ . i'm confussed
its 1GB stock. you can buy your own card, up to 32GB i believe. the 555 maxes out at 2GB. and yeah the 404 needs a midi to usb but it comes with its own software. so really its a lot more extensive than it used to be.
Since There is no mention in documentation, I have to ask? IS this SP-404 set up to play right off the flash card, or do you need to load things into RAM (like an MPC)
I don't own a 404, but it does look like the same body casing? I think the red / purple light is new? ;-) It previously was just blue
But appearances aside - I'd like to know - can you quantitize the pad INPUT (for perfect live timing), as in the "beat repeat" on MPCs / XR ? or only the output

at 8:00 minutes in, can you do those vocal effects in real time or do you have to record a loop first to apply them?

@ELARROCK through the SD card. Get a card reader if your computer doesn't have one and that's it.

how do you put effects on this player
djmadvybzz 1 year ago
No usb for extensive editing and transferral... which is a shame... but... I suppose the price it comes at, doesn't allow for that...
Cute TOY though, but, prefer my bulky Akai S6000;-)

Some people don't have that big of an income.

@ChumpJoe
They go quite cheaply on Ebay... an old skool 2nd hand sampler cost as much as a new "boxy thingy"...
macintosser 1 year ago
Can you chromatically tune a sample across a keyboard (like casio Sk-1, or a Microsampler)? or do you have to re-sample to pitch stuff?
It looks really cool, especially the filters, and it's reasonably priced.
aliebi 1 year ago
can you use this without a laptop just straight into your mixer. and does the fx work on vinyl ??
TheEntertainmentKO 1 year ago
If they´ve only put PITCH function into this, it would be perfect! No I have to reconsider what to buy.
joidi2 2 years ago
@joidi2 It has pitch and octave editing capabilities
karkynplague 1 year ago
It has effects called pitch and octave, but in reality they are timestretch that sounds like bs. Sad.

The thing has so much potential. the first thing I did was delete those crappy stock samples.

How can the sampler connect to a pc?
AppleOfDischord 2 years ago 2
Hook it up with midi. You can take samples from pc and most likely sync with software.

perfect live timing as in 1 note on 1 pad?
dsmite 2 years ago
perfect timing as in - when you hit a pad, it rounds your timing to the next 16th note, or whatever you set.
I could swear that voice says "Electribe" in the beginning ;-)
